Ethan is dehydrated

Maddie&EthansMom wrote: He had diarrhea for several days and now he is dehydrated. bawling.gif I called the doctor and they said he should be on his way to recovery now. He hasn't pooped any since last night and he is holding down liquids and pee-ing so that is good. The nurse told me not to attempt taking him to the ER. There is a 15 HOUR wait for dehydration cases. ohmy.gif ohmy.gif They are basically just sending them home and telling them to drink lots of fluids with calories (like 7-up) and start eating salty things. She told me to just let him eat whatever he wants. More than likely he hasn't gotten enough calories and is just droopy. It was downright SCARY this morning. He wouldn't walk or lift his head. He could barely move. I called Scotty and he brought some pedialyte and stuff home (this was before the nurse called back) I totally lost it seeing my baby boy like that. He has never been this sick. sad.gif I felt so much better when Scotty got here. Ethan perked up some once he got some food in him, but he went down for a nap pretty quick.

Say some prayers that he gets over this quickly.

punkeemunkee'smom replied: sad.gif Poor guy! Prayers said~ I used to get so scared if Tay caught a bug like that! Give me a runny nose to deal with over sick tummy anyday! I was always so concerned that she was too tiny to throw-up/have diarrhea. It still worries me,it is just not as scary as it used to be when she was a baby! hug.gif Get better soon Ethan! hug.gif

CAMSMOM1 replied: I know the feeling, it is incredibly hard to see your little guy feeling so bad. Last year Cameron had the flu for a week straight. He was throwing up, diarhea, all of that. I was also concerned with him getting dehydrated. The doctor told me to look for signs of dyhydration: push on the bed of his finger nail, and if it returns to a pink color he is fine/ if it stays white then he is dyhdrated. When he cries, you should see tears. He should have some wet diapers. Is your son experiencing any of those symptoms? Can he keep water or food down? I wouldn't give him anything heavy to eat, just bland foods like toast or bananas. He may just be sleeping alot to fight off the virus, just make sure that he isn't lathargic and won't open his eyes or hold up his head. If he is keeping down fluids, but not eating, he will be ok. We all don't want to eat when we're sick, but as long as he is drinking he's in good shape. Let us know how he does through the night. And follow your gut, if you think he needs medical attention go to the hospital. I would rather go and get some peace of mind, if he is lathargic.
I will keep him in my prayers. I hope to hear from you soon! Take Care. hug.gif
