Extreme makeover: Home addition - Ok who cried?

mummy2girls wrote: I bawled through the audition tape and bawled throughout everything. That little girl battling cancer... wow her spirit and positive outlook was amazing. I cried so much...did anyone else?

gr33n3y3z replied: I did
That was the best show they ever did

Cary Lynn replied: Yes I was crying.

loveydad replied: i never watch teh show. Sorry sad.gif

A&A'smommy replied: grrr dh has had the remote ALL day long so I really haven't had a chance to look around and see whats on otherwise I probably would have... He hasn't been able to watch anything in a week though so I'm being nice to him!

jolene555 replied: I was sorta pissed by it - sorry. First, all she wanted was for them to make over the hospital rooms. They could have done that for her. I mean - she's not well in the first place. All the other families get a week's vacation, and this incredibly worthy family gets . . . to paint all week - yay. Did you notice that the kids at the hospital were painting too - come on!! And it was all VERY Disney. I have nothing against Disney, but can you imagine the cool stuff they could have done if they made that their project?

And their new house, eh mansion, sitting amoung a neighborhood of extremely modest homes? I understand that we Americans think bigger is better, but come on! 5200 square feet! That poor woman is going to be cleaning the rest fo her life! And all of her young children are on a seperate floor from she and her husband. I cannot imagine having a house that large with 5 young children - I think I'd go insane. And when they showed the bead room, my first thought was "aww look at all those things for the babies to choke on, and right off the living room!"

Sorry - I know I am nit picking here. Had a bad morning so far. Sometimes I just wonder if they ever consider that some folks might not want a castle? Just not my style.

Kirstenmumof3 replied: bawling.gif I did! OMG I couldn't stop crying! I missed the first part, but got to watch the second part!

ediep replied: mine is on tivo, i'm watching it today....can't wait!!

jcc64 replied: I also found the size of the house excessive and out of character with the rest of the neighborhood. Does anyone REALLY need that much space, regardless of their personal tragedies? My mom lives in a suburban area, and the current trend is to buy a modest home on a small lot in a modest neighborhood, and then erect a McMansion that consumes the entire lot and looms over the rest of the neighborhood. That's what this makeover reminded me of. Usually they do a better job of integrating the makeover into the surrounding neighborhood, didn't see the whole show, not sure why they went so big this time.
Btw, Corey calls this the "Oh MY GOD!" show, b/c the people are forever saying just that during the reveal. She said, "Hey Mom, can we watch the "Oh MY GOD!" show tonight?"

Kaitlin'smom replied: I did but not beacuse of the house (the house was a bit EXTREME for me, but I guess thats why they call it extreme makeover) I cried beacuse of the grils courage and he desire to help others it was very touching.

mummy2girls replied: I agree hte house was too big. I just admired the girl's spirit and attitude!

JessC replied: Well the house was big for a reason. Because they had 6 kids. I would want a house that big if I had that many kids. I didnt think the cactus was a good idea because what if their kids ran into them. ohmy.gif
But I just love the reaction that they had when they saw it.

I felt sorry for the girl. sad.gif
It sucks that kids could get cancer so young. They also had the lady that was working in that area... and had her granddaughter and she had just went through chemo and she was only 18 months!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ohmy.gif sad.gif

jcc64 replied: Yeah, that woman with the 18 month old really upset me too. I did think the little girl was sweet and a very special little human being, and I know the whole notion of a child with cancer is unfathomable on every level. But while I usually enjoy the "big" moments on that show, this episode felt a little over the top to me. Idk, does a kid really need an entire room to make beaded jewelry? I realize the whole concept of the show is to do a good turn for a deserving family. But it seems to me the child already has a very well developed sense of what's really important in life (cancer will do that for you). And it isn't having the biggest toys, kwim?
Allright, allright, already put wayyyyyy too much energy into discussing a tv show (think I'm trying to avoid my work today or what?) rolling_smile.gif

lovemyboy replied: Me Me Me! I cried so hard. It was a very good show.

mommy2owen replied: i cried through the whole thing!

My2Beauties replied: I cried as well! I did think the house was a bit overwhelming, I was thinking the same thing, I would want to be on the same level of the house with my children! When Brian and I look for homes, if it has two stories we make sure at least two bedrooms on are on the same level so that we can be on the same level as Hanna! I don't know I mean it was a beautiful home, but I'm sure they could care less what the house looks like now that the company paid their mortgage off for them!

iluvmysweetiepies replied: I also thought the house was a bit much. They seem to get bigger every time. It's not like the family doesn't have to pay for heating, water, etc. Who really needs a house that big? I know they have 6 kids, but still. If they had made the house a bit smaller they could have donated some money to the cancer society. It was a great show though. bawling.gif The poor little girl.

jolene555 replied:
Exactly! What I thought was really odd was that the only child on the same level as the parents was the oldest child - and she had a direct entrance to their room. I was thinking how PERFECT that'd be for a nursury, but the infant was on the other level. Sorry, but I'm not a big fan of flights of step in the middle of the night.

iluvmysweetiepies replied: Me too. I mean, they have 3 really young childen. It would be really annoying to have to climb a huge staircase in the middle of the night to get to a crying baby. rolleyes.gif I like all my children close to me. What would happen if there was a fire?

jcc64 replied:

Amen. Or provided medical care for an uninsured child with cancer. Or several, for that matter.

Maddie&EthansMom replied:
Oooooooh! Good point, Jeanne! I'm all up for that! biggrin.gif

I did like the show, but kept wondering why they did things so differently this time. dunno.gif The house was WAAAAAY too big, although the mom said it was her dream home. The bead room was over the top, however they do normally do something like that for everyone (pools, weight rooms, whatever that person needs therapy in or wherever their interest lies) They didn't spend a lot of 'extra' on stuff like that, so maybe that was the reason for the larger house?? Also, she really loves making the necklaces and it will go to a good cause. The book was my favorite part. I thought that was very special. wub.gif

aspenblue1 replied: I cried. That little girl was amazing.
