FINALLY got a teaching job

moped replied: Good Luck!!!!!!
MommyToAshley replied: Yeah!!!!! That's wonderful. I know many people that have gotten their foot in the door with a long term sub-position and it's led to a full-time position. And, it's always good to have the recent experience. I know you'll do great!
coasterqueen replied: That's great news, Jeanne!!! Good luck
I have several friends (with very young kids) that do the substitute teaching and then substitute SO much they might as well be full-time teachers, lol. Not sure if the pay is the same, though. I know our state is in SERIOUS trouble right now (next to California) and we may be losing a TON of teaching jobs very soon as the legislature is gambling politics with our kids education. Certain people want a tax increase (instead of stopping the corruption of spending) and they say if they don't get it then the education budget for our state gets a 30% cut - which is UNSPEAKABLE. All the schools are already cutting teachers because their budgets have to be done before this legislation would even pass. Schools are canceling all field trips for next year, it's unreal. So I hope that's not something you have to deal with in your area.
I wish you the best tomorrow. Let us know how it goes when you get a free moment.
jcc64 replied: Unfortunately, it is happening here in NY as well. That is why I feel so lucky to have gotten anything. Teachers in every school in this county, including the one where I will be teaching, are being laid off, sports, arts, music programs cut, entire schools being closed down--it's really bad. My mom said the same thing's going on in NJ--I'm guessing this is a delayed reaction to the economic collapse. It just took a little while to trickle down to state budgets, I guess. Bad year to be a teacher, that's for sure.
MommyToAshley replied: What will you be teaching? What grade?
mom21kid2dogs replied: Good luck! Hopefully it will lead to something full time!

Eighth grade English. I'm not harboring any delusions about this turning into f/t work--I'm just glad to get the experience on my resume for the next job that does show up.
MommytoKKC replied: Good for you! I'm doing my second long term sub job this year. Like you, it's very difficult to find a teaching job around here (Ohio). I did 2nd grade before and this week I just started long term for K. I wish it would lead into full time, but as of right now I don't know any teachers planning to leave.
CantWait replied: So glad to hear. Good Luck, though I doubt you need it.
Sam & Abby's Mom replied: Good luck and congrats!!!!
kimberley replied: that`s great! congrats and good luck... though i know you won`t need it... you`ll do great!
A&A'smommy replied: YAY!!! Jeanne thats great, congrats!! I hope this is at least a lead to something f/t for you!!!
luvmykids replied: Congrats! Middle school was surprisingly my favorite place to sub!
Many of the small school districts here (TX) are in trouble too, including ours, it's heartbreaking. We've had to let five teachers go for next year and they need to make more cuts; we have a tax election in the fall but the same tax proposal failed last fall and if it fails again, we can't even ask for it for another four years. It's pretty dire when schools are struggling so badly.
maestra replied: Congrats on the sub job! It's so hard to find good subs, so I know they will love you!
In Az, we are having major RIF's (reduction in force). My district alone RIF'ed 187 teachers, and we only have 11 schools. I was one of them. But for me it's ok because I was making plans to stay home with the kids next year anyway. But for others, its really hard.
