First Shoes - When did you buy them?

lovemy2 wrote: Dylan is walking and walking pretty good now - its becoming his main mode of transportation (unless he can't get away from sissy fast enough then he drops to his hands and knees and resorts to crawling laugh.gif )

Anyway we bought him a pair of sneakers at Stride Rite last nite - not cheap I may add but I think its important to have good ones especially at this stage - anyway I wondered when everyone else bought their babies/toddlers their first WALKING shoes and did you buy the higher ones - the ones that are kinda like boots - they support the ankle more - or at least appear to....

boyohboyohboy replied: i always had the cute little "just for looks shoes" on them when they were babies..
but we bought good shoes when they started walking..
and all my kids have thick double wide feet so we can only get our shoes at stride rite! believe me i know how that hurts the wallet!

and let me just share with you, when caleb was little, we were driving across a large bridge, headed home after just getting new sneakers from stride rite, and calebs car seat was in the passanger side next to the door, and the window was half way down..it was summer, and he took his shoe off and threw it out the window! i was not able to retrieve it! emlaugh.gif
i was mad!
thats how this first time mom learned not to put the windows in the back down, and also to keep the car seat in the middle..

live and learn

lovemy2 replied:
OMG - that is too funny - not really but I can only imagine and yes I would be super mad but at the same time I hope at some point you laughed about it!!!!

boyohboyohboy replied: only now 6 yr later! wink.gif

bawoodsmall replied: I would be fuming. Em also had fat feet and had to wear stride rites untill this year(she is 4) Do shoes really need to be that expensive? I never bought the boot things for em or aiden.

luvmykids replied: I really don't remember when I bought their first pair of "good" shoes blush.gif

Calimama replied: I started at about a year when she started walking. I got her some baby snow boots (yes I know there is no snow here.. emlaugh.gif ) yesterday and this morning she woke up and said MAMA? BOOOOOOTS!?.. and put them on over her PJ's. I think they are a hit. rolling_smile.gif

grapfruit replied:
You HAVE to take pictures of that!!! tongue.gif

Boo&BugsMom replied: When Tanner started walking I got him his first pair. I didn't put them on him for inside though, only outside.

ETA: I also bought cheap ones, usually from Walmart of Payless. They worked just as fine.

lovemy2 replied:
Tell my girl I will send her some snow to go with those BOOOOOTTTTSSS laugh.gif

gr33n3y3z replied:
really at any stage good shoes or sneakers are a must
Ist pair of sneakers when they started walking and my kids never wore those white shoes ever bc they had no support nor arch in them at all so the Dr was not infavor of them.

A&A'smommy replied: I think alyssa was about 9 or 10 months old when we bought her good shoes I can't really remember.. she started walking at 8months so it wasn't too long after that

My2Beauties replied: Well Aubrey had several pairs of little baby sandals and stuff in the summer...size 0's and 1's wub.gif She has a pair of Dora shoes right now, size 2 that fit her. Once she starts walking I will buy her first good pair, I usually go buy Reebok's or Nike's to be honest. Hanna's first pair was bought for her when she was around 10 or 11 months right when she started walking.

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: We did the Robeez for both boys until they were about 15 months old and starting to stand and cruise on their own. Both of my boys were late walkers, so I didn't put rubber soled shoes on them until they were getting close. Wesley started walking at 17 months and Wil at 17.5 months. Since I had Wesley in physical therapy, she recommended the high top shoes for added support. And she asked that I start having him wear them at about 15 months, two months before he was walking. Only in the house. They also had to be flexible in the soles, that's why Stride Rite really is best for this IMO - their rubber is flexible unlike other places. So my boys first wore Stride Rite high tops. But now that they are walking well, I have them both in shoes from Target and other less expensive places like Payless and Walmart.

Kirstenmumof3 replied: biggrin.gif We got Claudia's free at Payless when she was about 3 weeks old. I know just little slippers. I think we got her real shoes about the time she started walking, so around 13mths. But she was a late walker, didn't really walk until she was about 17mths.

My3LilMonkeys replied: Brooke got her first shoes around 9 months - a bit before she started walking. She has always just had cheapy shoes from Target or Walmart or wherever.

Madison got her first shoes around 13 months when she started walking. She had double wide feet so she got Stride Rites because nothing else would fit. Now that she's starting to thin out a bit she gets cheapy shoes too.

MyBrownEyedBoy replied: I bought Logan a pair of stride rites when he was starting to pull up. About 12 months. He walked late, 15.5 months.
