First night no bottle...
booey2 wrote: A little background here:
Thomas, now 3 1/2 has been going to bed with a bottle since forever. He never had any other means of comfort or security items. For example: no pacifiers , no blankie or stuffed toys just his bottle.
So tonight I decided enough was enough, he wasn't getting it for bedtime. He used to get one during the day when he would nap but once the naps stopped so did the bottles except for night time. I had already come to the conclusion that I was going to try this in a couple of weeks when I go on holidays and didn't have to worry about getting up for work if he got up through the night but I am throwing caution to the wind and started it tonight.
So 1 night down, many, many more to go. He did cry and carry on for about 1/2 hour and then he was too tired to keep it up and went to sleep. We will have to wait and see what tommorow brings.
Just wanted to share my little triumph with Thomas.
mom2tripp replied: YAY for Thomas--hope you have many more nights of no bottle
Insanemomof3 replied: WTG Thomas!!!! Hope it works out. Tristan still goes to bed with a sippy cup I tried the other night to take it away, but he cried for over an hour I had to give in.
Josie83 replied: Wel done Booey!! Sounds like its going to be tough but hopefully it won't be long before he forgets all about it!! Keep us updated. Good to have you back around, btw xx
ediep replied: yay!!! WTG!!!!
jason finally gave up his too!!!! We told him that we gave it to our friends baby. He was fine and hasn't asked for it since!!
booey2 replied: Well I tried that because there are quite a few around the neighbourhood but last night (being the first night) he insisted he wanted it and wanted to be a baby. He acutally slept thru the night and did't wake up for it, I did hear him rolling around and he did finish his sippy cup of milk that I had left there for him. Things are looking good around here. (hopefully I haven't jinxed him)
ediep replied: well, its good that he drinks milk from a sippy cup. Jason still doesn't. SO, st this point, he drinks NO milk. Is that ok? I have been giveing him cheese and trying to give him other dairy too.
booey2 replied: I think that they are supposed to drink at least a little, we started having to put chocolate in Thomas's cup first to get him to drink the milk from a cup and eventually put less and less in til he was only drinking plain milk. Try the chocolate thing, just a little at a time and he may start drinking milk from a cup. Now Thomas only has chocolate milk as a treat.
MommyToAshley replied: WTG Thomas! I am sure that a few more night of no bottle and it won't be a problem any longer. Hang in there Mom... it will be worth it in the end. Congrats on your first night of success!!!
booey2 replied: Thanks, I only wished I could have nursed him then a bottle issue would not have happened because all the babies I know that nursed went straight to a cup after they weaned. Oh well we just weren't blessed that way.
MommyToAshley replied: Ashley doesn't drink a lot of milk either. She drinks most of her milk right before bed in a regular cup. I offer her milk with all the meals and sometimes with snacks but she hardly drinks it until right before bed. So, I compensate with cheese, yogurt and other dairy. It gets difficult though because I have to watch how much cheese I give her because she gets constipated easily. (sorry tmi). Ashley really likes cereal and cereal bars right now. I usually get the nutri-grain cereal bars, but when she isn't drinking much I give her the ones with the equivalent of 8 ounces of milk in them. The trade off is that they usually have some sugar added, but the milk is worth it to me since she doesn't get much sugar the rest of the day.
MommyToAshley replied: Don't beat yourself up... you do what is best for you and your family. All of our little ones have "issues" that we can look back and second guess ourselves and wish we had done something better. But, you just have to keep in mind that no one is perfect, all situations are different, and you are doing a great job!
