First pregnancy appointment--new doc - what can I expect?
Danalana wrote: One week from today, I go for my first appointment, and I am changing doctors because of hospital preference. I have done a lot of reading and have learned some, but can yall tell me what happened on your first appointment?
moped replied: Very little actually - in fact they will ask you a few questions and liekly tell yout o come back by about 10-12 weeks. More just to meet your doctor
hopefulmomtobe replied: You will get an exam and they will do blood work on you. They may or may not give you a due date, depends on if you know exactly your lmp is or not.
They wont try to hear the heartbeat until you are further along, but some doctors will do an internal ultrasound when you are around 8 weeks to get a more accurate due date.
CONGRATS AGAIN GIRLY!!!!
lovemy2 replied: Mine does an internal exam and asks questions, etc., he also sent me for bloodwork - have no idea what it was for - but they took like 4 vials of blood....then all the regular stuff they do everytime - weight, blood pressure, test your urine.....
How exciting!!!
Danalana replied: The bloodwork is to test HCG levels, hormone levels, RH factor, etc...
Yeah, from what i read, I'm gonna get turned inside out
I go back at 8 weeks for the first ultrasound
hoosier momma replied:
Mine does the same. My first appointment was at eight weeks and they didn't check for the heartbeat until twelve weeks. Finally at 20 weeks, I had my first and only ultrasound. My doc will not do other ultrasounds unless there are complications.
Jackie012007 replied: my first appointment was at almost 9 weeks - I had a pelvic exam, I'm pretty sure they did a PAP. Then she poked around in there and pushed down on my belly, I guess she was trying to get an estimate as fas as how far along I was because I had no clue. Then I was scheduled for an internal ultrasound - they have you undress, and then insert this speculum type device and poke around - you get to see the baby and hear the HB and get pictures! I loved that part.
With the second pregnancy, again I had no diea how far along I was so they got me right in for an u/s and that was when I found out we had lost the bean. But I measured around 7 weeks - you can barely see anything on the u/s at that point!
GOOD LUCK! I'm so excited for you, I'm sooooo getting baby fever too!
hopefulmomtobe replied: This is what I saw at 8 weeks, done with the internal u/s.
Danalana replied: That's awesome, Wendy! I am so excited to see it!
hopefulmomtobe replied: Believe it or not, we could even see the heart beating that early! I am soooo excited for you and CAN NOT WAIT to see your first picture!!!
DillsMommy replied: At my first appt. they did the usual pee in a cup, weight, blood pressure, took tons of blood, determined a due date (which was wrong), internal exam/PAP, pressed on my stomach, and ask lots and lots of questions. I was already 10 weeks though, so they might not quite that much yet.
I'm so excited for you!!!
Danalana replied: I wish it was next Wednesday!
Mommy2BAK replied: WOW I'm in total shock reading some of these... with both Blakely and this pregnancy the first appointment was worthless. And I was 13 weeks ( i think) with Blakely and 8 ( i think) or so with this one.
They just had me pee in a cup, take some blood, then talk to the nure in charge of billing and insurance crap. I never got to see a doc at my first appointments.
Anyways, hope yours is more eventful than mine were.
A&A'smommy replied: My first app. I was 12 wks (i think) and they did all the normal stuff... made me pee in a cup, did bloodwork (I think ) and did and internal u/s.
Are you going to the doc we talked about? or are you going somewhere else??
I'm SOOO excited for you!!!
Danalana replied: I'm going to the one we talked about
A&A'smommy replied: That is SOO cool we have the same doctor.... my friend that had her baby there recently said he was WONDERFUL and paid SOO much attention to what SHE needed and what SHE wanted!!!
Danalana replied: I have friends who had him, and they all loved him. Honestly, I'm so happy, Mickey Mouse could show up to do the delivery and I would be thrilled Nah, I know it's really important to have a good doctor, and I have heard the best about him. Isn't it weird that we share a doctor?
