For those who camp - Mind sharing your favorite meals?
coasterqueen wrote: We are going camping for Memorial Day weekend and I'm trying to make my menu so I can do my grocery shopping this coming weekend. I have a menu that I use every year for our "big" camping trip, but thought maybe I could use a few new ideas. So if you don't mind sharing yours that would be great.
stella6979 replied: Aside from the ole burgers and hot dogs we always have chicken-ka-bobs and pork tenderloins.
3_call_me_mama replied: CHILI BURGERS DOGS [PASTA SALAD CORN ON THE COB STEAKS SANDWICHES SOUPS/STEWS
coasterqueen replied: Sounds like we all do a bit similar.
Usually the 1st night we have chicken kabobs and second night we have "boyscout hamburgers"
For breakfasts we do cereal, rolls, and one day we have what we like to call dog food which is corn beef hash and eggs mixed together Man, I'm making myself hungry!
For lunches we do hotdogs, sandwiches, things like that.
Maddie&EthansMom replied: I want to go camping, too
CantWait replied: We have things that are easy to travel with and don't need a lot of cold. Kraft dinner, baked beans, pb&j sandwiches....basically we eat lots of processed foods that can be heated but stored outside cold.
mckayleesmom replied: Smores...Duh!...
Boys r us replied: I think there is only so much variety you can get with camping food! We do the same sort of things. We usually do bacon and eggs for breakfast...but that 'dog food' sounds pretty good! I love corned beef hash!
coasterqueen replied: Oh yeah, but I don't count that as a meal!
Kylie made a smores pie with her daisy scout group at a Little Chef event a couple of weeks ago. OMG it was so good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Maybe we'll make that while we are camping. It's super easy.
coasterqueen replied: It is good and SUPER FAT. We just fry the corn beef hash up (kind you can get in a can, lol) and then stir in several whisked up eggs (and milk) then cook that until the eggs are done. It's yummy!!!!! Girls call it dog food because it looks like dog food you can get in a can.
coasterqueen replied: If you lived closer you could come with us. Take the family and camp out in the backyard one night of the holiday weekend. I bet they'd love it. We actually have a "campsite" on family land two doors down from us. Ryan and the rest of the cousins used to camp there all the time as kids. It's way back in the woods, has a campfire ring and everything. Camping close to home can be just as fun.
~Roo'sMama~ replied: Mostly sandwiches, burgers, and hotdogs... things like that. My all time favorite camping meal was beef stew cooked over the fire. We also usually will put cubed beef in a bag of A1 or teriyaki at home, and then roast them over the campfire on sticks. That's more of a snack though, after the kids go to bed, because it's really time consuming and doesn't work so well with the kids. Cereal or cold poptarts for breakfast, but we like to make pancakes and bacon at least one morning of the trip.
msoulz replied: Anything that can be prepared ahead and frozen works great too - like taco meat or sloppy joe mix. It helps keep the cooler cold and just has to be warmed up for a decent meal.
Calimama replied: Foil dinners? Take meat (when I was little we used ground meat), carrots, and potatoes. Spread cream of mushroom soup mixed with dry onion soup over everything. Wrap it up in foil and let it all cook together over the fire. Sounds gross, but it was really good!
coasterqueen replied: That's what we call boyscout hamburgers around here. Minus the soup mix. Might have to give that a try.
MyBlueEyedBabies replied: camping chicken is the favorite here. cut up potatoes, chicken breast and a can of vegetarian baked beans. you can either do it in foil pouches or lately we have been doing it in a pot.
5littleladies replied: This is what I was going to say-that beef stew was fabulous! And beef cubes over the fire are definitely good too!
If you feel like sugar overload-My girls love to make their s'mores with Reeses Peanut Butter cups. Super yummy, but I usually can't eat more than one or two-they are really sweet!
luvbug00 replied: we are super lazy and even more so very unequipped. in other words, we rough it. we bring steaks and hot dogs and eggs and sausage and somore stuff. sometimes there is bacon. but since we travel light. if we are lucky there is one pan and a rack that belongs in an oven for the steaks. we cook over the fire. so easy peasy stuff.
