For those who eat organic foods
coasterqueen wrote: Besides meat, eggs, milk, veggies and fruits what are some of the brands of other organic foods you like?
We are just venturing into the box organic foods and it would be nice to know if some are better than others.
I've had Amy's organic pizzas and like them. Smart Balance organic butter is good. ETA Ragu organic pasta sauce is really good.
I just bought some Simply Organic mac n' cheese last night but haven't tried it yet. I hear Annie's mac n' cheese is good.
holley79 replied: The Anne's Mac and Cheese is really good. I love it. I think it's creamier. I do the organic whole wheat pastas. I can't think of everything that is organic. ITA about the smart balance butter. Love it.
coasterqueen replied: I knew I should have bought the Annie's Mac n' cheese. I just bought the Simply Organic one because it was $1.49 and the Annie's was $3.29. I guess you have to pay a bit more for the good stuff.
redplaydoh replied: The kids loved Annie's pasta and cheese mixes, the one with Alfredo sauce is really good too. We took some with us, but we're down to two boxes... something I will stock up on when we come back to the US to visit!
holley79 replied: Yes the good stuff is always more expensive for some reason. I guess you have to pay to eat healthy. That's what ticks me off. Wonder why America is obese, it's cheaper to eat fast food/ processed food.
3_call_me_mama replied: We yuse a lot of cascadian farms products. (Granola bars, tator tots and a few otehr things.) Horizon sells chocolate milk in littel drink box type things that the kids love. Annies mac and cheese is REALLY good. Our grocery stores have been carrying them 10 for $10. So a buck a box isn't bad. Delmonte organic pickles are awsome. and the ragu sauce is great too. The muir glenn tomatpo products are great too. OH as far as snacks stretch islands carries a fruit leather in organic and non. they are great for car rides. The newmans brand has a ton of orgnaic stuff that tastes great. Also teh amy's stuff in the freezer section is really good. Alexia brand frozen french fries/potato products are delicious and their french garlc bread is to die for!!! SO YUMMY!!! (The alexia stuff we found at costco and there's a brand of organic frozen pizza there that has spinach and feta on it. that we sampled and it was good too. Basically what i did when we switched was walked around teh health food store and looked at what others had in their cart! LOL But we havn't had bad luck with anyhting yet really. OH if you havent' tried pirates booty or teh other stuff that roberts american carries you should . SO yummy adn a great alternatve to chips!
SORRY i can't type today guys, I'm seeing spots. Literally! and can't read most of this after I type it!
Maddie&EthansMom replied: I like everything I've tried of Annie's. Our grocery store sells a lot of their stuff. I also like Cascadian Farms for cereal and jam. The only thing I've tried from Alexia is there frozen potato wedges. They make some rosemary and olive oil potatoes that are really good and don't taste frozen at all.
Just about anything organic is good to me...I've not really had any bad stuff. If you like canned tomatoes I buy the Muir Glen brand. They taste like fresh tomatoes.
luvmykids replied: The kids love the Pirates Booty and the veggie chips, not sure what brand but they're like potato chips but made from veggies.
coasterqueen replied: THanks everyone. We went at lunch and got a few things...and I say a few for $80. UGH, the prices. Anyways, we got the Alexia frozen potatoes, can't wait to try them tonight.
Ryan found organic sugar....but we need to research it because I believe it's still processed, but he bought it anyways.
Now the problem I have is I do NOT like sea salt. I don't think I can give up regular salt.
jcc64 replied: Really, Karen- I like sea salt better than regular. I actually like kosher salt the best. Annie's is great stuff- the single serve microwave version is a MUST in my house for after school snacking. All of Amy's frozen convenience foods are very good, if not a little pricey. I LOVE Soy Garden in place of butter- really tasty and nothing yucky in there. Organic Ragu tastes good- but there's TONS of sugar in it, and organic or not, tomato sauce just doesn't need to be that sweet. (who needs the extra calories?) Really like Tofu Cuties- similiar to ice cream sandwiches but non dairy. Not sure if they're actually organic. Horizon makes good organic dairy products, as does Stonyfield Farms. Newmans Own makes a lot of good organic snack stuff- cookies, crackers, etc..So does Barbara's.
C&K*s Mommie replied: Although it may not be classified as organic, I like Promised Land chocolate milk (tastes exactly like a Wendy's frosty ) the cows are always hormone free.
The girls consume organic foods moreso than Chris or I, since my mother buys organics often. Chris will not eat it, so if I buy it, it would be for me and the girls to eat.
A&A'smommy replied: I love organic but where i'm from we don't have much of a choice in organic foods
ashtonsmama replied: Sea salt is good, you just really don't need very much... Get a good grinder, and you'll probably like it more...
But Amy's is AWESOME! We love their Macaroni & Cheese! It's way good, and actually tastes real!
We live at Whole Foods here...but we also call it Whole Paycheck, because we usually end up spending $100+ every time we go...
coasterqueen replied: Well maybe I just put too much sea salt on the last time I used it. The first time and last time I had it was at my MIL's. She made spaghetti and the sauce was terribly BLAND for my Italian taste so I salted the heck out of it with what I thought was regular salt. It happened to be sea salt. I didn't think there was a difference UNTIL I took my first bite. OMG, I thought I was going to barf right then and there, but my MIL was trying to fix me (the biggest pickiest eater on the planet) something I'd like so I ate it. I did everything in my power not to upchuck the darn thing it was horrible! I still think it was the taste of the sea salt though . BLAH!!!!! (as I'm wiping off my tongue with the memory of that taste).
We don't have a Whole Foods here. We have one very very teeny tiny local Natural/Organic store here that sells organic foods and their prices are out of this world! Other than that we have been going to the several chain food stores in our area scouring the aisles for what organic foods we can find. I'm betting we'll probably spend a lot in gas doing it this way too.
ZandersMama replied: same here, there is 2 shelves in the grocery store.
