Formula

holley79 wrote: I am just curious as to what others use/ prefer. My pediatrician recommended Simlac to me at Annika's 2 month appointment when I asked her what I should use. I had a can of Simlac and a can of Good Start. I have read the label of both but went with what the Dr recommended. We ran out of the Simlac and substituted with the Good Start for a day. I bought another can of the Simlac yesterday. Formula is just so confusing to me. wacko.gif

my2monkeyboys replied: I didn't vote bc I don't believe there to be a big difference in them... I think they all have to meet certain guidelines. I keep my 4-mth-old neice (not by blood, by friendship), and they give formula as needed with breastmilk. They've used different ones. Hope this helps!

Bee_Kay replied: We started Ashley on Similac, but she got sick (pukey), so we switched to Good Start. Tyler did well with Similac though.

JP&KJMOM replied: I thnk alot of it is what your child can tolerate too. If she is doing good with Similac then stick with it.
JP started with Similac and never changed. Karlee was on everything I think they sold but she was extremely colicy for the first 4 months of her life so the doc kept changing to see if it would help.

MyBlueEyedBabies replied: I voted Enfamil because that is what I liked best. Similac I thought looked chunky but Katy did use Isomil for 6 months. we also used the kirkland (Costco) brand for a while.

luvmykids replied: My doc recommended Parent Choice from WalMart and we never looked back!

MomToJade&Jordan replied: We tried a whole bunch with Jordan, but she tolerates the Good Start the best. I found this information helpful. With everything that has gone in my life recently i dried up and Jordan weaned. sleep.gif Here's the site:

Formula Feeding

JAYMESMOM replied: I used Isomil with Jayme. But the best advice came from my pediatrician when I asked him which was better.

He said NONE--they are all basically the same thing it just comes down to what brand your child tolerates, you like, and which is cost effective for you. If one was better than the other then that is the only one people would buy.

I thought about that later and realized it is true -- just like everything else we eat. Some like one but some like another. And ultimately it is a matter of taste and what you can tolerate.

I suggest picking one and see if your child likes it.

MamaJAM replied: We used Good Start soy with our last 3 babies (DD#1 had been on special soy formula.....DD#2 was on enfamil soy). Each time the kids have thrived on their formula. With DD#3 and the boys -- I just didn't see spending all the extra money for a name-brand when the Good Start soy was just as good.

1lilpeanut2love replied: We used Enfamil Lipil w/ Iron. I tried to use Good Start, but she wanted NO parts to do with that stuff!!

Mom2BNTN replied: Dylan takes Similac and hasn't had too many problems with it so far.

CosmetologyMommy replied: I say similac because that is what they gave me in the hospital for Aidan and he seemed to handle it well.

He drinks whole milk now

1lilpeanut2love replied:
wow! I didn't start Kay with the whole milk until she was 10-10.5 months! When did you start Aiden on the whole milk! Did the pedi tell you all to give it to him early?? Sorry, I'm not trying to be nosey, I am just curious!! tongue.gif smile.gif

moped replied: I started with the Enfamil A+ and then switched to Walmart for obvious reasons - way cheaper and they are all pretty much the same!

moped replied:
I'm curious too - that does seem young. Jack didn't have whole milk until 13 months or more

holley79 replied: Ok thanks everyone. I totally understand about the cost of formula. I have a few "checks" that I held on to that are 5 off a can.

I didn't think you were supposed to start cow milk so early. Everything I read says a year or so. dunno.gif still figuring all this out though.

Everyone, thank you for the help. hug.gif

ediep replied: Jason was on Good Start and I will most likely use it again for next baby

garrettsmom replied: I use Allimentum by Similac, Garrett was so colicky during his first month the doctor recommended it, and we haven't looked back since. He did say, however, that once you find a formula, stick with it. Even though they're the same ingredient wise, switching can cause havoc on the gut of a baby. Even when you use powder of one, but maybe use the premixed of the same. Babies are just very sensitive. wacko.gif

Cece00 replied: I used Similac to supplement when I would send my daughter (and boys) with my mom overnight, and so when my milk supply ran out b/c I got pregnant again, I just stuck with Similac.

kimberley replied: i have never used formula (except one feed when i was sick after birth) but all the moms i know who formula fed (including 2 preemies) swear by nestle goodstart. absolutely zero intolerance and thriving well. thumb.gif

CosmetologyMommy replied: Yeah the ped said it was ok because of his weight. He weighs nearly 25 pounds and wanted a bottle when he was on formula every hour.

holley79 replied:
Oh ok. See I'm still learning the ins and outs of what is what when it comes to these little tykes.

I think I am going to stick with the Simlac because that's what I started her on. Not to mention it's not like I'm using a bunch of it. Tonight DH doesn't have to supplement. I got enough pumped for 2 nights. partydance.gif partydance.gif

Jules007 replied: Anthony takes Similac because the hospital gave it to him. My niece takes Enfamil.

Both are doing great with it.

jerzygrl replied: Hello everyone,

I am new here on the boards. I used similac with my first child then went to
good start and he did much better with that.

I just switched my two week old to good start from similac, just for financial
reasons. She was doing fine on the similac. My ped said that they are
all pretty much the same thing. Like Coke and pepsi. Just which do you
prefer.

I have a question though, my daughter only 2 weeks old doesn't seem to
finish her 4 ounce bottle. Sometimes she wants more right away, and
sometimes she doesn't finish at all. She is really tough to burp as well
which I feel may be the reason. Anyone else have this trouble? Do you
think I should just switch back to the similac?

Any advice would be helpful.

Thanks,
Kim

1lilpeanut2love replied:
hismiley.gif and welcome.gif!!

I would suggest gas drops. They can work miracles.

Each baby is different, but when my girl had a bottle. Each time she had one she would drink a different amount. It all depends though. Good luck!!

My2Beauties replied: I used Nestle Goodstart with Hanna. The WIC office and my ped recommended it. I used the kind with ARA or whatever that stuff is in it (it's been a long time since she took formula wacko.gif ) and she did great on it. It's got comfort proteins in it to help them digest it easier.

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: We always used the Regular Similac (not the Advanced) and Wil did fine with it. I'm going to BF, but will use Similac again when and if I need to supplement.
