Formula? Help!!! - formula types
barbie7 wrote: What is the very best, top of theline formula I can give to my baby (that has everything, good protein, DHA/ARA, etc) that is 6 weeks old? People rec Enfamil, but how does Nestle Good Start compare? So what is the very best?
wcs40110 replied: Hospitals and Wic (Women, Infants and Children, a giverment program) all use Enfamil so I would assume from just that that it's the best you can give your baby. The cans also say its the most like beastmilk, which is the best of the best. My baby is breastfed right now but if/when I switch to formula I'll use enfamil.
PrairieMom replied: Hospitals will give out what ever company they have a deal with, I assume it is the same with WIC. Similac gives out formula at my hospital, because we cut a deal with them. My ped recommends a name brand, not a store brand because the name brands are the ones that can afford to do the best testing.
wcs40110 replied: My hospital did simalac until last month... same as wic??
ediep replied: I think the Enfamil Lipil is the one that was reccommended to us, but we went with good start becasue it was easier on my sons tummy
MyLuvBugs replied: I personally think that Similac and Enfimil are the best. But the choice is really up to you. Definately get one that has DHA/ARA in it. You might also want to start off with a small bottle to see if your baby likes it, or doesn't have an allergy. We ended up with our first going through TONS of formula before we figured out that she was a little lactose intolerant, and we ended up on Soy formula.
MyBabeMaddie replied: WIC gives out Similac here, our hospital gave out all different kinds of formula depending on the month - they said different companies come different months trying to endorse their brand.
We tried Enfamil with Lipil, Enfamil Gentlease, Similac with Iron but we are now on Similac Isomil because she has a little bit of milk intolerance and acid reflux.
Your doctor will know what's best for your baby. Goodluck
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: I think it's really whichever kind goes down best with your kiddo. We always used Similac...my sister worked in a hospital and that was what was recommended to her. But if Wil hadn't taken it so well, I would have tried other brands. Good luck...but try them out. Your ped can give you several different samples.
flirtycuddle replied: I used Good Start with my dd cuz it is eaiser on bellys but with my son he has milk and soy intolerances or what not so he is on Enfamil Nutramigen. All depends on what your dc can tolerate
luvmykids replied: I used Parents Choice, the Walmart brand. My pediatrician was actually the one who recommended it. We used the soy formula for Colt and the regular with DHA/ARA for Kylie. Personally I didn't like the Good Start, too foamy and bubbly.
Cece00 replied: Hospitals here carry ALL types of formulas to give to a baby, a parent can specify which they want to use if they choose not to BF, and WIC signs a contract with a certain company and that is why they use a certain formula. In my state, I believe they are currently using Similac for WIC.
Boo&BugsMom replied: We tried Good Start and personally did not like it. It wasn't the formula itself I didn't like, but they make it look like you are spending less money by charging less per canister, when in fact, the canisters are smaller and the scoop is bigger, using more powder per bottle. We spent more on GS than Similac while we were trying different brands.
We finally had to put Tanner on Alimentum because he was so colicky. The GS didn't even do it for him with all their "comfort protein" stuff. He was just so fussy, and that was the only one that worked for him. At $20 a small can is better work!
After awhile when we put him back on regular formula we used Similac w/Iron. it worked fine for him once he was over his colicky stage.
