Four cake shoppes later - I was able to order C's b-day cake
C&K*s Mommie wrote: Christian wanted a Belle (from Beauty and the Beast) birthday cake this yr for her party, so I wanted to oblige. I wanted to get her a Barbie doll cake made to look like Belle. In an effort to price compare with a bakery that we ordered from last yr for Christian's party, I went to a couple of other places. The bakery we had previous experience with had a good variety of icings, fillings, toppings, and flavors to choose from I wanted to see if I could find a place comprable to it. The first cake shoppe had what I was looking for, but Chris thought it was too much money ($50). The next two ice cream parlors did not have doll cakes at all. But we were pointed in the direction of a grocery store that makes doll cakes, and that is where I ordered the cake from. Christian even chose what flavor cake she wanted, so all in all she had a say in everything about this cake & party itself.
This is a pic of what I am hoping the cake looks similiar to (it may not be this elaborate though):

Kaitlin'smom replied: looks to pretty to eat.
I hope it turns out for you, and what a sweet mom to do all that for your little girl.
cameragirl21 replied: it's so beautiful, Nicole! a beautiful cake for a beautiful girl.
coasterqueen replied: looks great. I'm going to attempt to do that kind of cake for one of my girls. One of them will have a doll cake whether they like it or not!
holley79 replied: I can't wait to see it. I beat it's going to be beautiful.
CantWait replied: Can't wait to see pictures. That's really cute.
LOL Karen
msoulz replied: OMG, that is beautiful! I don't know how to put a picture in but I have put in a link to Erin's birthday cake. The only difference is that one segment of the cake will be just plain white frosting for her as I sure don't want to clean the colors off of her and her clothes!!
caterpillar cake
C&K*s Mommie replied: Thanks you guys!
Sounds like me trying to push Kelly (who's b-day is in the Spring) to have a cupcake and icecream party. I saw balloons and invitations with cupcakes on them so it prompted this plan of mine to push it with Kellie.
Mary, I love that cake that you are planning to make. I like it so much that I cannot wait to see if the girls want to have some kind of party so I can incorporate it in.
msoulz replied: LOL Nicole - if I tried to make it I'd have a huge mess and no cake! It's from a bakery near by. But I'm glad it gave you an idea!
coasterqueen replied: My nephew had that cake for his 1st birthday party. My SIL actually made it for him and it was gorgeous!!!! I loved it! He did, however have ALL those lovely colors all over him, it was a mess, but a fun mess!
cameragirl21 replied: oh, Mary, what a beautiful cake you're getting for Erin! i am such a butterfly fanatic that i'd just be all over that sort of caterpillar cake. let me know if you want some butterfly decorations for it or for the party, i know someone who sells all kinds and they're not very expensive at all!
msoulz replied:
Your SIL is a much braver woman than I!!
sparkys2boys replied: Wow, what a beautiful cake!! I'm sure she will love it. What little girl wouldn't..
Hillbilly Housewife replied: Word of caution... for Emilie's 2nd birthday/baptism party, I had a Barbie princesses cake made for her. It didn't look AT ALL like I thought it would. The cake was basically a tall round cake with some of the edges shaved off. It wasn't even close to looking like a dress... and while Emilie obviously never knew the difference, I was so upset I cussed out the manager. It had been expensive too... like 60$. I could have done it better.
msoulz replied: You know, I was having flashbacks earlier and I think I had one of those Barbie cakes once as a little girl. That's probably why I find it so appealing. Very cool!!!
MM'sMama replied: Thats so cute!
C&K*s Mommie replied: That is what I am slightly worried about. Chris told me that if I wanted to cancel the order with the grocery store and pay the $50 for the cake shoppe to do it I could. But I am crossing my fingers that it turns out well. I have a copy of that pic above to show them, so they will have an idea on how to decorate it.
It is trivial, but I like to be in semi-control and know that some things are decent looking not shoddy. Oh well. No one will care if it is shoddy looking, besides me right?
Thanks ladies!
redchief replied: That looks great! I would have thrown in the towel after the second shop and made a Duncan Hines and threw a Barbie doll on top. I hope it comes out like your dream.
Hillbilly Housewife replied: I don't think it's a control thing... it's a "I requested THIS, and I got THAT" thing.
It's not like I had made it up and just told them how to do it. They had one on display... so I was expecting the real thing to at least some somewhat like the display, you know?
moped replied: It is great. I wish I had a pic of the cakes my mom used to make, just like those but always pink -
