Free Zoo

kit_kats_mom wrote: This is a picture of the "free zoo" which is our back porch. The raccoons love to come up every night to much on left over catfood. They had babies so there are 4 now. Katherine really enjoys watching them. rolling_smile.gif

We have two squirrels and a red robin that come up on our deck every morning. Ashley watches them out the window while eating her breakfast. The other day, they were chasing each other in a circle, it was pretty funny.

CantWait replied: That's such a cute pic....
I was watching animal miracles a week back and they had a story about a wild deer and a wild rabbit that had become friends I guess you could say. They showed video tape of them sleeping together and playing together and even grooming eachother, it was so cute.

coasterqueen replied: OMGosh that is a cool picture!!!! I have to admit, the darn little rascals drive me batty! We get them out on our deck sometimes. If we have a cook-out on our deck most people will put their trash in the small trashcan on the deck. Well, if we forget to take that trash to the trashcan in the garage the coons will be out there trying to get in it all night :-) Always waking me up.

A&A'smommy replied: that is so neat i wish i could have seen that!!! Where we live at we see deer EVERYWHERE, well one year my parents took my brother and i for a ride (i was like ten) down to the park to look for deer well we had just turned around to go home because, we hadnt seen any deer and were pretty disapointed. Well as we turned that corner there was a baby doe and a fox playing together we watched them for a good while until they noticed they were being watched and ran back into the woods! It was the neatest thing i had ever seen!!!

MomofTay&Sam replied: Aww thats too cute! smile.gif

Maddie&EthansMom replied: HeeHee! That's great! My mom loves to rescue wild animals and she caught a baby raccoon once. We had him forever. I will have to find those pictures of us holding him. His name was Rocky. rolling_smile.gif rolling_smile.gif

Right now mom has a baby squirrel. wacko.gif

I volunteered at our wildlife rehab place back in college. I took in orphaned squirrels all the time and raised them until they were ready for release. They are so funny and quite a handful if you get more than 2 loose in a room...trust me tongue.gif Maybe when Katherine is older we will be squirrel mommies again. I think it's a great way to have a cool pet and help the local wildlife too. thumb.gif

kit_kats_mom replied:
Yeah, they get in our trash too. They are quite messy but so darn cute. They do stink like the dickens though rolling_smile.gif Last night we had the door opened with just the screen door and i smelled the little bandits before I saw them peering through the railings.

I found an opossum in my trash can one day last year when I came home from work. It has a lid on it so I don't know how it got in there but I freaked out. I opened the lid to put a bag of trash in and he started hissing at me. I probably looked pretty funny. A big pregnant lady in heels and a suit (cussing if I remember correctly) , rolling a huge black trash can into the woods next to a tree, searching for a long stick and using the stick to fling the lid open so he could crawl out and up the tree! rolling_smile.gif rolling_smile.gif
