Fun & Easy Precious Keepsake - handprint ornament
chloe&tysmommy wrote: I got this recipe from another board awhile ago and thought I would share it with you all!
All you do is mix together: 2 cups flour 1/2 cup salt 3/4 cup water
(I added a little more water to make a softer dough)
- Roll out and press hand (or foot) in the dough (put a little water on hand before you press so it doesn't stick)
- cut it out with a glass (or whatever shape you want) and make a hole on the top so you can hang it up
- Bake for 1 hr. at 325C after it cools paint it and gloss it.
I made one just before Christmas time (Chloe was 3mths) and hung it on our tree. Its such a nice keepsake and makes a nice gift for grandparents.
Hope it works out for you......mine worked awesome but again, add enough water to make a softer dough.
Oh, and if anyone decides to try this let us know how it worked out!!!
Kaitlin'smom replied: awww I am gnna try this hopefully this weekend! Thanks!
with fathers day comming...............hummm sounds easy enough!
tanks I will let you know how it goes!
amynicole21 replied: What a great idea! Might try it for Father's day, too. Would make a good coaster for DH's beer mug - LOL! (Might have to make several so that we keep one nice )
MommyToAshley replied: Sounds kewl!!! Thanks, gonna have to give it a try!
supermom replied: Excellent craft - gonna have to try this to send one to Anders' 'adopted' GPaw for Father's Day - he'd love it!!
mckayleesmom replied: That would be a great way to make alot of different ornaments with cookie cutters and cheap,,ornaments are so darn expensive.
Hillbilly Housewife replied: Did you get it from PP? I'm asking because I posted it (several months ago)a few times on that board, and I sent it out to several of the ladies through email once the board *collapsed*....
MommyToAshley replied: Can you paint it? If so, what kind of paint would you recommend?
Hillbilly Housewife replied: I personally painted mine with acrylic paint.
chloe&tysmommy replied:
Well yes, I actually seen it there last year sometime..... Thanks for the neat idea!
Has anyone here made one yet? If so, how did it go? oh ya,- mommytoashley - I used acrylic paint and it worked fine.
maliksmommy replied: I made one last night! I actually had to do a foot print because every time I would try his had he would dig his fingers in the dough. The foot print turned out cute though. I painted it with paint pens. I made 2 last night but one didn't turn out because it was too thick and got air bubbles and cracked so make sure you keep them somewhat thin. I gave DH his last night and he loved it:)
ediep replied: my dh got me something like this for mothers day, it is a set of 5 tins that have the plaster already in them. You just peel off the foil and put the baby's hand in it. Each tin says my hand at 1 year, 2 year, and so on. I think he got it from amazon.com but i have also seen them in pottery barn kids.
amynicole21 replied: Mine are baking in the oven right now! We'll see how they turn out. Thanks for the idea!
A&A'smommy replied: Just wondering how it turned out, and if you have to paint or gloss it... I bought a "kit" for Alyssa birthday and I wanted to do it TODAY but well I accidenlty waited to long and it got hard so I didn't get to do it....
chloe&tysmommy replied: This recipe is so easy to do...and after you bake it (let it cool) and then decorate it any way you want.....I paint mine and trace the outside and spell the name with sparkle glue and then gloss it with podgy (you can ask at a craft store what type of gloss they carry).
I'm going to do one for Ty tomorrow so I thought I'd bump this up for anyone that wants to try it
Have fun
