Gangs/Middle School

MyBabeMaddie wrote: My friend's cousin is in 6th grade at a public middle school (not a city school an upper-middle class public school) Anyways, the school's colors are red and blue. This little girl wore an all red outfit to support the high school basketball team - She got suspended because they thought she was supporting a GANG!?!?!?!?! WTH!?! I have not heard of this but apparently the Bloods VS. Crypts is like a national gang rival now which affects 12 year old little girls? If i was that girls mom I would be making a BIG stink about the situation!

luvbug00 replied: yeah, in the schools you can not wear

red, blue, black, or white bandanas
no shirts with the # 13 ( for MS13)
and they have several other stuiped rules too.

Anthony275 replied: is that a joke???

grapfruit replied: Funny, our schools colors were blue and red as well. And when we were playing our rivals (colors are red and grey) we got decked OUT in our colors. I think there's a pretty fat dark line b/w GANG and SCHOOL SPIRIT! They should be ENCOURAGING kids to support the school, not immediatly jumping to the conclusion that it must be gang related.

Whatever happened to common sense??

MyBabeMaddie replied:
I was totally shocked, I still am! That's crazy! MS13 i'm guessing is another gang?! Do you have a lot more of that stuff around DC?

luvbug00 replied: yep i'm more northern va but we have

MS13 ( originated in central america gang)
Bedrock ( a prodominetly aferican american gang)
vatos locos ( out of cali)
and several other smaller groups. Every nationality here has one and each has their own colors. they all recruit starting in 6th grade and older.

Calimama replied: Scary scary. sad.gif

Kaitlin'smom replied: ohmy.gif

so if she would have had on like a blue belt or socks or something blue would she have been ok?

I cant imigine having to watch what colors Kaitlin wears to school.........

CantWait replied:
And whatever happened to at least a warning??? sad.gif

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: Well I dealt with gangs growing up in CA, but this seems really extreme. Suspended? Come on. If she was throwing signs and had a "history" of running with that group, then I could see it being legit, but wearing school colors on a day of a game? Doesn't make much sense.

MyBabeMaddie replied:
I totally agree, My friend didn't tell me all the details but I know this young girl and she is DEF. not running with gangs!!

luvmykids replied: Wow, that seems really extreme for a girl that doesn't have a history of gang trouble. Just another very sad reflection of the world we live in now sleep.gif

Cece00 replied: Yeah, that is not so much a problem here in middle schools. I went to private high school so I dont know about public high school but in middle school around here, not so much. Then again, I live in a very affluent area, so maybe in the outskirts?? I dont know.

maestra replied: It's a BIG BIG BIG problem here in Phoenix, and it sometimes starts in 4th grade. I had a 3rd grader that was being courted by a gang. In some of the families I work with, the grandparents are even OGs, (original gansters, the older ones of the gangs). At my last school, we were even changing our school colors because they were the same as a gang, and they were trying to claim our school as their territory because of it. It's sad, I know.

My3LilMonkeys replied: All I have to say is thank god I live in a small town! I'm not going to say gangs are nonexistent here, because I'm sure they're everywhere, but it's not something we have to worry about.

My3LilMonkeys replied: oops - double post. blush.gif

luvmykids replied:
Around here, thats just as bad....the rich kids who are wannabe "gangstas" trying to prove themselves to the real ones rolleyes.gif
