Garage/Yard Sales
coasterqueen wrote: I am so excited - I am going to attempt a garage sale this year. I'm a bit nervous because I live so far out in the country, but I hope if I advertise the sale well and have a lot of signs going out to our land that we'll get a flow of visitors. A neighbor not too far from us (closer to the main road) had one last year, not sure how it went though.
We have SO much to get rid of - literally get rid of. Dh said just put a sign out that it's all free just so we can get rid of it. Silly man! I want green for it. We have furniture, pictures, clothes, and I think Dh has decided we are going to try to sell the air hockey table too.
NOW, so what is the earliest I can have one in the midwest area (Illinois)? I'm getting very anxious and it's still cold here. My mom said sometime in April, but I'm not sure when.
mommy~to~a~bunch replied: Great idea Karen! You can always donate or Freecycle whatever doesn't sell. I'd want money for my stuff too. I was going to suggest April or May - most people are glad to get out after being cooped up all winter, and most would love to go searching for deals.
I hope it goes well for you.
DillsMommy replied: Hmmm... i was wondering that too. I really want to have one this spring also, but it's still pretty cold here too My dh sounds like yours-- he said to just put everything on a "dollar table" or just give it away. I couldn't tell ya how many times he has threatened to give it all to goodwill because I have talked about having a garage sale forever now. I know I can make some money cause I have a ton of stuff to get rid of. I was thinking towards the end of April?
Kaitlin'smom replied: I am hoping to start in April as well I figure I am going to run on every saturday for a while and tell people to keep comming back new stuff every week as I clean more of the house out. I am so tired of all the stuff.
good luck hope you get lots of green
DillsMommy replied: Oh thats a good idea!
mom21kid2dogs replied: There were some this weekened in our town (Ohio). I can't get in the mood for them until at least May, personally. April is still very unpredictable in Ohio. Actually, May isn't that much better. I've worn a coat on Memorial Day weekend here
Kaitlin'smom replied: ya thats the bad part but I figured I would just leave everything in the garage and open and put up signs when its nice out.
mckayleesmom replied: I use to live about 2 hours from you karen....We would usually start in May and if it was still chilly...we would start the fire pit up and do hot dogs, smores...things like that while we sat outside.
coasterqueen replied: May is too far. I want to have it now. I have so many things I want to get out of my house and NOW.
Kaitlin'smom replied: I know the feeling, next nice day I am going to clean the front part of the garage its not a big space but its so cluttered. I think thats when I am going to start setting up.
MommyToAshley replied: Good Luck -- you could always have one now and what you don't sell, you could put up again in May.
Our neighborhood one is coming up in April. Every year I say I am going to put stuff out for it and then it always sneaks up on me and I don't have time to get it all together. I am determined to have one this year!
coasterqueen replied: That's a good idea. I think that's what I'll do. Hopefully more will sell in April then in May.
GL having yours this year too.
My2Beauties replied: We have a huge neighborhood one every year in September (the beginning). I'd say watch the weather closely in April and pick a weekend that looks good, put up lots of signs though since you live on the outskirts and hope you make lots of money! April can be touch and go here, I'm not sure about Illinois, so can May too. Some years on Derby weekend we're literally sweating half to death and other years we're wearing coats and freezing cold.
Crystalina replied: I don't have yard sales, I go to them. My kids are way too rough on their clothes to sell and the ones that are still in good shape I either give away or put on Ebay. Out where I live nobody would ever come anyway.
coasterqueen replied: I normally wouldn't have one either because I usually give away the girls clothes to friends, but this past year we remodeled our bedroom totally different, so I have an entire master bedroom of lighthouse decor/pictures, pillows, shelves, furniture, etc. We also redid our foyer and so I have a rug, some pics, and a mirror from that room. Also, Dh wants to get rid of the air hockey table in the basement since we never play it as well as an old Lazy boy chair. Also, Megan's baby furniture can be sold at it. SO we are getting rid of a lot more furniture and decor things more than anything.
