Gift for boss - WWYG

coasterqueen wrote: My boss has EVERYTHING and I really do mean that. tongue.gif Every year we have trouble trying to decide what to get him (my co-worker and I). He built a new house last year and is still decorating it. Two years in a row we've gotten him art.com gift certificates to get framed art for his new house....don't even think he's used it yet. Three years ago we got him an iTunes gc for his new ipod/iphone. He's never used it. We've gotten him restaurant gc in the past as well, which I think he regifted. rolleyes.gif In all respect, I've thought of not getting him anything, BUT.......I just don't feel right. blush.gif

So my choices I came up with this year is either one of those really nice copper tubs and stand - you know the kind he can set out on his really nice deck next to his built in swimming pool - use it for parties to put drinks in OR a two month Pizza of the month club (thanks Jeanine for the idea tongue.gif ). What do you think would be better if it was you? I like the tub idea, but I'm afraid we won't get a nice enough one for the $120 we usually spend on him. blush.gif Where as we can get 2 months of the pizza thing for $120.

Any thoughts? Ideas? I'm open to any. thumb.gif

DVFlyer replied: That seems like a lot of $$ for a boss gift.

I would avoid stuff for his house- just in case it's not his taste.

Have you asked him about it? All of the employees here know if they get me as their secret santa, I want chocolate. Cookies, candy, whatever... as long as it's chocolate. smile.gif

coasterqueen replied:
Ask him? He'd say....don't get me anything. tongue.gif I know that's what we should do, but still, I just don't feel right not getting him anything. blush.gif blush.gif blush.gif Especially if he gives me that BIG raise I'm asking for. tongue.gif laugh.gif Course I don't give him a gift until after I find out about raises, but still. tongue.gif

DVFlyer replied: "Hey boss, after you give me that big fat raise, I'm trying to decide whether I'll spend it on the Red Ferrari or Yellow Ferrari for your Christmas gift". Which color do you prefer?"

coasterqueen replied:

bluebear replied: How about an American Express gift card? I know my mom gets her bosses those every year and they use them.

momofone replied: Maybe an expensive plant - what was it a bonsi tree or something or some other type of indoor or outdoor plant.

luvmykids replied: Is he a golfer? What about a gc to his favorite course or pro shop?

luvbug00 replied: It"s sooo hard to buy for bosses. I'm lost as to what to get mine.
I agree with the gift card idea from AmEx. Only because it allows him some freedom. Maybe a movie gift card for a night out?

coasterqueen replied: The Amex card....he has one freely at his disposal, so I don't know how exciting that would be to him. He is a BIG TIME golfer, which is why I NEVER buy him anything golf related, lol. He is extremely picky. He NEVER has to pay for golfing as our work provides a country club membership and any other time he wants to golf is usually at a legislative event, which is free to him.

I dunno....maybe I will just get him nothing. happy.gif rolleyes.gif

MommyToAshley replied: If he has everything and needs nothing, how about making a donation to a charity in his name?

DVFlyer replied: Lots of money, AmEx card, country club...

Can I work there?

coasterqueen replied:
Yeah, but the rest of us don't get all that. tongue.gif

bluebear replied: Does he like James Bond movies? Maybe you can get him a few of the films, or maybe a few seasons of a show he likes.

coasterqueen replied:
yeah, this I don't know. tongue.gif I thought he just watched sports 24/7. laugh.gif

I just spoke to my co-worker and we've decided on the tub/stand thingy. She really liked it and if he doesn't like it we figure his wife would. tongue.gif

DVFlyer replied: Speaking of his wife...

Are you close enough with her that you could ask what he might like?

moped replied: WOW I have NEVER heard of getting your boss a christmas gift.........does everybody do that?
Serioulsy, I have never heard of this!

happy.gif

PrairieMom replied:
Our whole department takes up a donation for our boss's gift. I never contribute. For one thing, y'all know the issues I have with my job, and the sucking -ness of it. rolleyes.gif Plus, I figure he is already making way more than any of us, He doesn't need a darn thing from me. tongue.gif

Karen, I say get him a holiday popcorn tin, then help yourself to it. rolling_smile.gif

coasterqueen replied:
Yeah, close, but she has no clue what to get him either! rolleyes.gif rolling_smile.gif

coasterqueen replied:
This is the way I wish I felt since he NEVER ever goes to bat for us at raise time. growl.gif He sure does for himself, though. dry.gif

Well the tub/stand thingy is discontinued so we are back at square one. I'm ready to be a scrooge and say screw it! tongue.gif

bluebear replied: How about a gas card? I think he'd use it, lol

coasterqueen replied:
His gas is paid for by the company, lol.

moped replied: Still blows my mind!!!!!!!!!!!

luvbug00 replied: my bosses present is that i work for him.... rolling_smile.gif

bluebear replied: Digital camera?
Coffee gift card?
Massage session gift certificate?

my2monkeyboys replied: Does he give gifts to his employees, too? If not, I wouldn't worry about it. Make some homemade treats and take them in to the office for everyone to share. Maybe send a nice card to his family. People with that much money typically don't need you to buy them something, they buy what they want when they want it. Why go through the aggravation and spend all your money???

DVFlyer replied: There is only one gift appropriate in this situation...

JOTM

Jelly of the Month Club.

coasterqueen replied:

coasterqueen replied:
He used to personally buy us gifts, but now we just get bonuses.

my2monkeyboys replied: I would definitely go with a food item, then. Either made yourself, or that pizza thing, maybe a fruit of the month even.

kimberley replied: i really like the pizza of the month idea.

we just give our boss cash and he buys what he wants. we should have about $500 collected for him this year so he is going to buy a diving camera. last year was an iphone, the year before... outdoor signs for the business.
