Going rate for the tooth fairy - First tooth
moped wrote: So Jack has a "sharks tooth" that hte dentist is pulling today, so he is losing his first tooth....what is the going rate? When I was a kid I remember nearly dying when my aunt (i spent summers with) gave me a two dollar bill!!!!!! I think my parents gave us about 50 cents......
Do tell!
luvbug00 replied: 0.50 here. i've heard of a dollar or two but this tooth fairy is cheap..lol
moped replied: Well I am not sure at all but I made sure tha tI have a toonie and a loonie in my purse for tonight! Oh and those are Canadian coins....one and two dollar coins! Just incase you thought it sounded silly!
mom21kid2dogs replied: Buck a tooth here!
Sarah&Mackenzie replied: Well Mackenzie had to have her first tooth pulled too. The tooth fairy left a dollar and a note saying if she brushed better and her next tooth falls out on its own she could get 2.00. I am like Nadia, a cheap tooth fairy!
luvbug00 replied:
Thank you! i mean kids dont get that fairy dust and wing repair is NOT cheap!
moped replied: No tooth fairy tonight, dentist said she would rather wait and let him wiggle it out, but she took xrays and they are sending him to an orthodontist in December because apparently he has GIANT teeth coming in and will have to have some removed etc......and look at how soon he can get braces - OMG braces at 6 or 7????????????????? Is that INSANE?????
PrairieMom replied: yeah, thats insane. what is the point of braces before all the permanent teeth are in?
maestra replied: Jaci will be 8 in Sept, and she is having braces put on, at least on the top, in a couple of weeks. Her adult teeth on the top are big compared to the space she has, and they are coming out on top of each other, if it at. So she has a palate expander in now, and then will have braces to help those teeth come in straighter, so that there won't be so many problems straightening them when she gets older. HTH!
A&A'smommy replied: gah well the first couple my husband took of because I feel asleep before she did (oops) but she got 5 dollars a tooth for the first tooth and I gave her 2 dollars
grapfruit replied:
I used to get a fifty cent piece
mom21kid2dogs replied: Same here. Olivia (9) got hers on last week. I thought it was crazy too and swore I'd never do that but orthodontics is much more about preventing pulling permanent teeth by dealing with the issues earlier than we did.
bluebear replied: I got braces on when I was almost 9 1/2 years old. I knew a woman back in 2005 that said her 4 or 5 year old son was getting braces put on soon. Now that's WAY too early considering kids that age don't lose teeth so often and adult teeth are in.
moped replied: So the story from the dentist is:
She is going to see him in December and see how all the baby teeth are coming out and the adult teeth coming in, the xrays showed huge crooked teeth and she will send us to an ortho in the new year and they may pull some teeth to make room and will in the future have braces.......no suprise. Doesn't every kid have them now? I have had them twice in my life.....and might go for another at the same time
I got the full story from Tom when i got home!
Hillbilly Housewife replied: Oh I`m glad to be reading this... Zach has ridiculous teeth up front. Little Beaver Boy.
moped replied: And a quick update - he got $5.......and another is on the way out very soon
kit_kats_mom replied: K got $5 for the first & $2 for the subsequent. If there's a cavity, she will get less. Our tooth fairy gives golden dollars which you can pick up from the bank. I have a roll of them squirrled away for TF duty.
moped replied: Our dollar are gold (not real) coins here......and our $2 coins as well.
I guess I stick with $5......that is a bill! LOL
lesliesmom replied: Our TF gives out Silver Dollars (Susan B. Anthony) for the 1st tooth. Every tooth after is a Gold Dollar coin (Presidents or whatever). When DS had both his top front teeth knocked out (even though they were loose and going to fall out in a few weeks), he got a $5 along with his coins... TF felt bad the way it happened and that it happened right before a Church program he was singing in.
HoneyPet replied: Growing up it was always 50 cents a tooth. My husband comes for a richer background and got $2-$3 per tooth. I think they will be excited to get anything though.
holley79 replied: When do kids start losing their teeth? Guess I'll go get some of the gold $ coins at the bank.
moped replied: Well Jack was 6 in June, and just lost one....but I think he was a bit late!
