Got SOME answers - Doctor called.........

punkeemunkee'smom wrote: My OB just called the sono report came back that the lining is pretty thick and I have a few cysts-he would think maybe I was pregnant but that test was negative bawling.gif But a thick lining can cause excessive blood loss during AF and can be a "contributing factor in chronic anemia" He also felt that MAYBE(don't you love that word dry.gif ) I became depleted during pregnancy, surgeries and breastfeeding and I have heavy AF so I have not recovered BUT he still feels like a biopsy is warranted and that a colonoscpy is not a bad idea. He wants me to think about trying the pill(AGAIN) to slow AF and maybe boost my iron stores. I guess all in all good news thumb.gif and I am THANKFUL nothing major was wrong I was just hoping for some definative answers...I was hoping they would say OH here it is no need for colon tests blush.gif Thank you all again for your prayers only a few more things to rule out and then I can be normal again wacko.gif rolling_smile.gif

Maddie&EthansMom replied: I'm so glad you got some answers and this is something that can be treated on a non invasive level. hug.gif I, too have endometriosis and feel it getting worse. I can definetly see how it would make one anemic b/c I've been on the verge of anemia for several years now. It's nothing to play around with.

When was your last surgery to burn off the cysts and stuff?

luvmykids replied: Really glad to hear it, you're almost out of the woods! hug.gif

punkeemunkee'smom replied:

I had a laproscopy before Tay. He wants to do another one as I have a hernia from the C-section that they think has some endometriosis in it and it needs to be repaired but I was hoping to get pregnant again before we had to do that. rolleyes.gif and do the repair with my next C-section. Does the pill help you Aimee? He wants me to try it again but I never had much luck before with it...we will just have to see.

Sarah&Mackenzie replied: I am glad to hear that it is good news! hug.gif

coasterqueen replied: hug.gif So you have heavy flow AF's? I think I'm lost on that one, sorry. blush.gif

I have never heard of breastfeeding affecting your body like that. blink.gif

Glad you got some answers though.

I hope this isn't a sign of what I have to come. When they did my c/s for Kylie they told me I had fibroids on the outside of my uterus. wacko.gif My AF flow is ATROCIOUS as well, I barely had an AF before I had kids, but I was on BC for cysts at that time.

Maddie&EthansMom replied:
Well, it helped when I was having a period every 3 months. (This is a new thing to some people, but I started doing that 12 years ago.) tongue.gif The only thing is, the pill wasn't good for me in other ways. My mother had breast cancer and it was hormone receptive so I made a personal committment not to take artificial hormones. It really sucks when you have endometriosis and face a hysterectomy sooner than most. I will find natural ways to get my hormones...it's available....thank goodness. The last surgery I had was almost 10 years ago. It (endo) was really bad right before I got pg with Maddie and again right before conceiving Ethan. Now it is getting worse. I have horrible cramps during ovulation and AF....along with several other problems (the stuff grows EVERYWHERE). rolleyes.gif So far I've found when I exercise and keep a healthy diet it keeps these symptoms at bay. I have some other hormonal issues that I think the endo contributes to. Who knows? It is such a mystery.

I hope the pill works for you and you are able to concieve before the surgery. That would be ideal. hug.gif

ETA: The pill didn't help anything other than not having a period for 3 months. When I had my period they were still really bad. Doctors think the pill solves everything, the same with HRTs. dry.gif Gotta headache? Here, take BCPs rolleyes.gif

coasterqueen replied: I don't know about the cysts you are having but the pill actually did help me with my ovarian cysts. So the pill CAN help in some situations.

CosmetologyMommy replied: hug.gif and prayers!

My2Beauties replied: I'm glad you got some answers. Praying for you that you get all the definite answers you need and that the next round of test results come back saying you are healthy and gonna live another 100 years biggrin.gif

punkeemunkee'smom replied:

My grandma had breast cancer as well and that is something that concerns me. There is a great health food store locally and I am going to go talk to them there if this turns out to be the driving problem-which I am hoping it is!

jcc64 replied: Well, it certainly sounds like it's pointing in your favor- thank God for that! I would submit to the colon tests, so that once and for all, you can put your fears to rest.

C&K*s Mommie replied: more prayers & hugs for you, and hoping that you can return to your old self again, soon. hug.gif hug.gif

CantWait replied: hug.gif I'm so glad you're getting some answers and it's nothing serious *whew* blush.gif

A&A'smommy replied: Well that sounds like good news, Abbie I"m glad to hear that you are getting some answers!!! hug.gif hug.gif

~Roo'sMama~ replied: hug.gif I'm glad it's not serious, Abbie ~ sorry you have to do more tests though! hug.gif

coasterqueen replied:
Wow, I've never heard of it depleting your iron levels. I do know how important it is to take your prenatal while nursing and I do that daily. I also take a cal/mag supplement during ovulation and AF to counteract AF symptoms.

I will have to ask my BF guru friend and see what she's said. She's never told me to do anything/take anything more than my prenatal.

Maddie&EthansMom replied: Karen, were your iron levels ever low during pregnancy? I had mine checked at every appt and they were low so I had to be put on an iron supplement. I had to stay on them after I conceived and as long as I was breastfeeding. This is probably what happened with Abbie as well, but her iron was never restored and only got worse until she became anemic. wink.gif

coasterqueen replied:
Hmm, no I don't recall, but they were checked all the time because I had a history of anemia in highschool and awhile thereafter. I did take a prenatal with extra iron, though.

punkeemunkee'smom replied:

Yep Aimee you are right! 1 out of every 4 women is anemic in a small level. My anemia is considered severe and chronic-my iron was not brought up by diet and oral supplements so we did the IV iron for 6 treatments-My levels rose but not to the point that they were expecting thus the need for futher testing arose. Since things are looking as we hoped(no glaring internal bleeding)we are back to the original theory that I may have just become depleted due to pregnancy, surgery blood loss, the toll BF takes on you and continued heavy AF-not by breastfeeding alone but a combo of a several events that lead to where I am now-which is acually wth about 1/4 of a normal iron level. Iron is a very easy mineral to OD on so Karen if you are not anemic then I would not think you need an additional supplement. There were many symptoms that I have been having with INCREASING regularity-I was eating 7-8 glasses of ice a day,I was so tired I could noty get enough sleep BUT i had insomnia,my legs were restless,I was breathless, etc. If you experience any of these things PLEASE have an iron check and hemoglobin test-I am learning that this is not something to mess with! wink.gif

MamaJAM replied: Glad to hear your starting to get some answers. Hopefully they can figure everything out and help you feel better soon. hug.gif

amymom replied: So Abbie, When are you having the biopsy? And I think (as much as I would want to stall it too!) that having the colonoscopy done and out of the way is a good idea. Maybe they can do it all at the same time.
Take care and keep us updated.

punkeemunkee'smom replied:
They want to do the biopsy after AF this month(so in the next 1 1/2 -2 weeks-I should start today but with all this stress who knows)...which does not make sense to me.Why not do it NOW if i am going to cramp and spot anyway just do it and then it will be cramping with AF since I do anyway...They want to measure the thickness of the lining too-Is there a specific time they do that? The Dr. said it was very thick on the sono so why not measure it now? wacko.gif I guess they do it at a uniform time so they have a mean to measure against. ???? Anyone know? The colonoscopsy will be at a different time because he is going to try and do the biopsy in office and he does not do colon in office blink.gif

Maddie&EthansMom replied: I know the lining thickens during ovulation. Maybe that is what he is waiting for. dunno.gif

jcc64 replied: From what I hear from my mom, a colonoscopy is not as nasty as it sounds. The prep for it is unpleasant (you gotta drink some sort of nasty chalky stuff and really "clean out"), but the test itself isn't so bad. You get an IV valium drip (similiar to when you get your teeth pulled), you basically go to sleep, and wake up and don't remember anything.

amymom replied:
I went for the appt with the doctor a few days after AF and when she suggested the biopsy, she said I can do it right now, since you just had AF. So maybe it has to do with getting a clear cut into the endometrium (is that the right word?). idontknow.gif

Maybe someone has a better answer for us.

fashionmumofboys replied: So glad you got some much needed positive answers. In no time you will be in the clear.
