Great. I can have a turtle. - *insert sarcasm*

MyBrownEyedBoy wrote: Logan and I just got back from the allergists office. We had to redo the pet allergy tests because Logan squirmed too much and they all smeared the first time. Turns out he's allergic to cats (this was the worst reaction of the three and cat and ferret are pretty much the same, so he's allergic to Gravy), guinea pigs (second worst reaction, so he's allergic to Peanut Butter the Pig) and dog (only a slight one, but still a reaction, so no dog in our near future). So, I looked at the allergist and said, "I guess we're stuck with fish." and he says to me, "Well, or a turtle, but they can have Salmonella. But box turtles don't. You could get a box turtle."

Cece00 replied: What about a bird, hermit crab....ummm....hamster? Or is that too much like a guinea pig? Sorry, I know you are sad not to be able to get a dog and other pets.

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: Yuck. wink.gif

Sounds like we live the same life Kelly...We were at the allergist this morning too. Found out Wil is a 2 on dogs. Which is the only pet we own of course. So what are you going to do with the other critters. That's a bummer. sad.gif

MyBrownEyedBoy replied: Thanks, Cece. Birds are kind of bad with mites and dust. Hermit crabs creep me out. I'm not sure about hamsters. It may be a possiblity. I just wanted an animal Logan could wrestle and play with. Maybe a poodle cross is in our future.

Rae, I'm keeping the other critters. Logan doesn't have much contact with the guinea pig except to give him carrots occasionally and he's never had a problem. And Gravy, well, she's caged most of the time and Logan really only breaks out when she sniffs him with her bare nose. I guess he's allergic to ferret boogies.

Calimama replied: I'm sorry, that stinks! On the other hand turtles are cute!

CantWait replied: Oh Gosh Kelly, I'm sorry. hug.gif Turtles are cute, and yes they carry Salmonella, but if you wash your hands right after contact, it really isn't a big concern. I knew a couple people that had turtles.

HuskerMom replied: What about like a salamandor or something like that? Or gerbils maybe? Or if you do get fish I would recommend pirhanas. They're really cool and get pretty big. Mine are about 6 inches long. And if you only get one or two they're not as aggressive. But DH had to get 7 of them so ours are kinda mean smile.gif

cameragirl21 replied: i have turtles and they are lots of fun and as long as you wash your hands after handling them you won't get salmonella.
there are non allergic dogs btw, like a poodle, a lhasa apso, shih tzu, bichon frise, etc.

redchief replied: Hmmm... Iguanas, snakes, tarantulas, a bird?

A&A'smommy replied: sad.gif yikes fun poor thing!!! Sorry momma hug.gif hug.gif

3xsthefun replied: I'm so sorry, Kelly. sad.gif

Really, though turtles can be great pets to have. Like some others said long as you wash your hands after handling them you won't get salmonella.

We have one and the kids love her. smile.gif

coasterqueen replied: There is actually some kind of cat that has very very short hair, they look like little tigers, that my SIL got for their kids and they are supposed to be non-allergenic. Her DH and her step-son are severely allergic to cats and they have no problem with this kind. I'm not sure what kind they are but if you'd like I can find out.

I'm severely allergic to cats too, but with a whole house air cleaner and other precautions as well as allergy shots I've been able to keep them. smile.gif
