Grocery shopping question
ammommy wrote: Do you shop at different stores for different items? For example, I buy meat one place, produce at another, and coupon shopping at a third. I thought this was pretty normal, but my friends think I'm nuts.
There are definately different quality standards at different stores. That's why I do it.
AshleyRose replied: I might do the same if I wasn't so busy. Grocery shopping has become such a chore to me lately that the sooner I get home from that place, the happier I am. I am sure it will change with time.. its just if Paris is with me, I get overwhelmed and if she isn't I miss her and just want to be home.
You just have preferences for certain things at certain places and thats fine. Plus your a bargain hunter and thats even better!
iluvmysweetiepies replied: I do that as well, when I have time. I like a certain store better for produce and another better for meat, and neither of them have certain other non-food items we like.
amynicole21 replied: Well, there are things that I won't buy at a grocery store, like shampoo, diapers or detergent. I go to Target for those because they are just too outrageous at the grocery store. Everything else comes from the same place. The other options for grocery stores in FL are icky - poor quality, too expensive, etc. I suppose if there was EXCELLENT produce at one place and EXCELLENT meat at another for example, I would go to separate places. Fortunately, I don't have to.
luvbug00 replied: Gulty again. I but it where it's cheepest if that means hiotting up a couple markets it's ok with me!!
Josie83 replied: Nah we just go to the one supermarket, although like Aimee says for things like baby lotion and wipes and all that jazz we get it from shops in town, unless its offer xx
gr33n3y3z replied: I do shop at one store for certain things and another store for others if I have the time.
mckayleesmom replied: I go to Walmart for shampoo, diapers, wipes, etc...and maybe a couple items food wise that they don't have at the commissary. I would by my diapers at the commissarry because they have these ones that are like huggies..only generic, but they don't sell them in bulk. Mckaylee loves those diapers because they have clifford on them.....and actually they hold more then huggies.
mammag replied: I'm a Walmart shopper as well.......and I'd go to the commisary if I were military. My sisters are always outraged at what I have to pay for groceries.
I used to have to shop at Kroger which was sometimes 2x what I pay at Walmart so I never go there anymore. There's really nothing else cheaper than Walmart around here that has enough food items to make it worth the trip.
The problem is I always end up going to the non-grocery section and coming home with things I never intended to buy so I'm probably not saving money I just have extra items I wouldn't have been able to get at Kroger.
Jamielou replied: We are walmart shoppers too but we dont have much of a choice there arent any grocery stores any closer right now....
mckayleesmom replied: We use to do all our grocery shopping at walmart until we moved on base...mamaq....just tell yourself over and over....DON'T GO TO THE OTHER SIDE....DON'T GO TO THE OTHER SIDE.
Boys r us replied: We buy most of our meats at the meat specialty shop from ,uhm..a butcher, for lack of a better word. But everything else either comes from Sam's or Kroger...never food lion..ick!
mammag replied: Now you know I'll be thinking of you and chanting that the next time I'm there!
~KARA~ replied: I normally only one go one place to shop. Once every two weeks I go to walmart to get things like shampoo, diapers/pullups and stuff that I cant get at the grocerie store(Save a lot)
Kaitlin'smom replied: well now I get meats and some other things delivered from schwans, other tan that unless its houshold stuff the rest comes from one place
ediep replied: I only go to to one grocery store and buy everything. If I happen to be at target, I'll pick up some things as well
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: I get my groceries mostly at one place, but I often go to a natural food store in addition for vitamins and organic stuff, especially baby food. I'm getting better! And although DH grew up all organic...we just can't afford to shop at Whole Foods for everything. I also get some meats, diapers and wipes at Sam's Club. Shampoo and fun stuff at Target! I was just there today and got way more than I came in for of course!
MommyToAshley replied: I do all my shopping at one store, but I don't patronize the same store every time. I don't like grocery shopping so I have to force myself to do even that.
b&bsmom replied: I used to go to the grocery store and BJ's (warehouse store) but then we got a superwalmart and I go there for everything. If I have to shop at a reg grocery store because I don't feel like driving to walmart I spend twice as much. You just can't beat their prices for everyday stuff like spag o's and diapers (although I may not need them much longer ) I do very well trying to stay on just the food side but have to venture to the other side for cat food and litter. I do have a friend who will go to 3 or more stores using coupons to get the best deals. I just don't have time to figure all that out and get the kids in and out of the car that much. Walmart for me
kimberley replied: no . i shop at the cheapest place because i can get a lot more than "picking and chosing" where i buy what from. when trying to feed 5 1/2 ppl on a tight budget, you tend not to go to the specialty places.
mommyangie replied: I buy vegetables, packaged foods, milk/butter/bread/eggs at a local health food store so I can get all organic in those. Then I go to a regular grocery store and get the meats, sodas and paper/household products. It's expensive that way but I only go to the health food store every other week, whereas I go to the regular grocery store a few times per week.
kayla's mama replied: I buy all my personal items at Wal-Mart, which DH can't stand. Groceries on the other hand, just one store, Schnucks. DH works for them, he won't let me shop anywhere else I would love to bargin shop for groceries.
He is not controlling he just thinks that we need to support his company
redchief replied: Ewww, I hate shopping.
coasterqueen replied: My mother goes to so many different places for things, especially for sales on soda, this and that, etc. I told her the amount I save by doing things like that is no where near the dollar value of my time. She's nuts! No offense anyone .
I shop at the grocery store for food. I shop at Walmart for household supplies. Sometimes instead of Walmart I'll go to Target for that stuff, but they cost more so I rarely do that unless there is something else I need there. I go to Petsmart for pet food only because the kind I need for my one cat I can't get at Walmart and it's outrageously priced at the grocery store. And I go to Babies R Us for diapers and wipes because they are cheaper than Walmart.
Now that I type that that's way too many places to go as it is for me, lol. Oh and I go to the health food store for dairy/milk protein free items .
JAYMESMOM replied: Most of the time I will hit multiple grocery stores to save money with coupons or sales. I definitely do that with the soda we drink. Lucky for me I have 5-6 diffeent grocery stores within 5 miles and 15-20 within 10 miles.
I only go once a month and some times if I am really busy I will pick the store with the best savings on the majority of what I need.
I do pick up milk wherever in between stops along with bread and eggs if we need them.
I stock up on my other houshold products such as detergent, dish soap and shampoo when they are on sale at Walmart, Target or Meijers.
If I had time I would go to Costco more but it is just alot of work with 2 kids.
mom2tripp replied: I'm so guilty of ALWAYS going to the other side and spending way too much money there!!! Walmart is the only place we go for everything unless I need something quick then I have to go to Foodlion bc the Walmart is 30 minutes away
