HAd first Doc visit

Kated wrote: Well its too early to do an ultrasound but Im about 5 weeks and 4 days now.
I go back on Jan 10th for my first ultrasound.

We talked about my med. My reg doc is weanin gme off of it and my OBGYN says thats ok but if I have problems I may want to talk to my doc about a safe med I can be on.

Why am I freaking hungry all the darn time? Isnt it a little early to be this hungry?
What is safe and not safe to take as far as over the counter stuff. Is all tylenol stuff safe? I told him I took motrin once in a while when I got a migrain (sp) and he was ok with that.
Im so confused every one says diff stuff and this is my first time so im freaking out

PrairieMom replied: I think they kind of play a balancing act when it comes to medications. A lot of times they are necessary, even if some studies may say they are "risky" sometimes you just don't have a choice. You have to weigh the benefits to you, against the risk to the baby. I'm not sure, but I think that with tylenol the risk is pretty low.

i had to be on all kids of medications with my pregnancy, I take a couple different things for my asthma, and quitting them just wasn't an option ya know? plus, it is more dangerous to have an uncontrolled Asthma attack than taking the meds them selves.

I also had to take difflucan throughout my pregnancy, which has been proven to cause misscarrige. I was scared the whole time, but Ally is here and she is fine. hug.gif

Kated replied: Yeah I dont know what to do.

Im actually crying right now cause Im scared I dont want anything to happen but I also cant deal with how I am when im not on it my mind goes a mile a min and i cant sleep at all.
I would love to not take anything. I am upset cause I wish I could be normal for once and not need anything

gr33n3y3z replied: Dont worry so much bc thats not good either
hang in there
hug.gif hug.gif

Kated replied: Im trying this just really sux.
My reg doc wants me to stop but my OBGYN said if its going to hurt me I shount stop and I should see if my reg doc can give me something else to take that is safer. My med is in a level c they said which means they have no idea what it could do to the baby but niw im on such a low dose uh..................

gr33n3y3z replied: Tara said it best
play it by ear and see how it goes

amymom replied: I agree with both Tara and Lisa. Worry won't help you or the baby. ENJOY your pregnancy, try not to worry about it. Everything will go well. Take care. hug.gif

EvesMom replied: Pregnacy is different for everyone, so being hungry all the time could be perfectly normal for you (sure beats the heck out of being Sick all the time) thumb.gif

lisar replied:
I got the same list when I was pg with raygen.

EvesMom replied:
I guess most OB's go by the same list. I was shocked to find out that you can take Percocet for pain (say dental work) and Ambein foe sleeplessness. ohmy.gif

CantWait replied: That list seems long to me, of course it would be only if you really needed them. I was given Codene when I was pregnant with Anthony.

As for being hungry all the time, how much are you eating in a day? Is it possible you're not eating the right foods to fill you? To many sugars will do this, fibre will help you feel full. You need at least 500 extra calories per day when pregnant and breastfeeding.

EvesMom replied:
ohmy.gif I thought the list was small laugh.gif

~Roo'sMama~ replied:
Bethany I was just wondering if your doctor told you the reasons why these drugs aren't ok? My doctor told me to take Claritin for my allergies so for a few months I was taking it every day. Now I'm a little worried that I shouldn't have taken it! unsure.gif

EvesMom replied:
For the Claritin, there hasn't been enough testing to come to the conclusion if it is safe or not. There have been a few studies suggesting the risk of birth defects, but the verdict isn't out yet. If your OB said it was ok, I wouldn't worry too much about it. All Doctors have different opinions on different meds I suppose. Sorry to scare you sweetie. hug.gif

Kated replied: Thanks guys
I am going to call the doctor tomorrow and ask them for a list of stuff I can and cant take I hope its the same list!

Kated replied: Well I cant take anything err............ only tylenol and tums!
I can take the pm if I really need it to sleep but not allot and not often.

Hey what is the first US like?

EvesMom replied: normally you don't get one so early unless your unsure of conception or to verify due date. I had an ultrasound early with Eve because I had a little spotting. Because it was so early, they used an internal ultrasound. It was no worse that having a regular exam. And the baby looks like a lil peanut happy.gif floating around. Hopefully you'll get to hear the heart beat as well. It's pretty exciting biggrin.gif How far along will you be when you get the U/S?

Kated replied: Well Im almost 6 weeks and its on the 10th

Also is it normal to gain this much wieght so soon. I used to wiegh like 144 145 and now im almost 160 and im only about 6 weeks. I have been eating like crazy. Im hungry all the time I cant help it I get really sick if I dont eat.

EvesMom replied: It's normal to be hungry during pregnancy, but the rapid weight gain so early could be from a variety of reasons. It could even be water retension. You should really watch what you are eating, not exactly how much you are eating.

I got this food pyramid from the March of Dimes for pregnant women:

A friend of my gained weight very rapidly in the begining of her pregnancy, then it tapered off and became slow and steady for the rest of it. Everything was perfectly normal, and she had a very healthy 9 lb 7 oz baby boy. happy.gif
