Crystalina wrote: Izabella has numbers on a sheet:
41

All the directions say is circle the number that's in the "ONES" spot.
wth is that ? I have no idea and she can't remember. I've been out of school for 16 yrs and out of 1st grade much much longer then that. I must have missed that day.
FYI these are not the numbers on her homework but they are all 2 digits.
Anthony275 replied: 41 and 51
Crystalina replied: is it the first number? and the second is the tens ?
Crystalina replied: how did you get that answer? I have to be able to explain it to her.
My3LilMonkeys replied: In the number 41, 1 is in the ones spot and 4 is in the tens spot.
punkeemunkee'smom replied: 41
1 is in the ones place and 4 is in the tens place.
Crystalina replied: I don't understand how this is working.
These are her numbers:
44
31
17
69
How am I to know which is the ones spot? How are you guys figuring this? Mama lost!
punkeemunkee'smom replied: It is place values. How many tens does it take to make 40? now how many ones are added to that #?
My3LilMonkeys replied: The number all the way to the right is always the ones place, followed by the tens place, hundreds place, etc.
booey2 replied: 44 - circle the 4 on the right
31 - circle the 1
17 - circle the 7
69 - circle the 9
these numbers are in the "ones" as described above,
thousands, hundreds, tens, ones 2 0 0 8
hth
Crystalina replied: Ok, thanks everyone! I got it. I thought that's what it was (ones tens and hundreds) but I always thought a decimal would have to be there to have that rule.
Lord almighty! What am I going to do when she gets in second grade???
Crystalina replied: BTW, she says thanks.
booey2 replied: LOL, you can always come here, we love to help out. The decimal would put the numbers in tenths, hundredths etc.... notice the ths on the end. That is because they are fractions of a whole number. Gotcha now don't I. LOL
booey2 replied: Anytime, the boys are in the 4th and 1st grade so we are prepared.
Crystalina replied: Yeah, can you tell I totally suck @ math. Thank Goodness DH is a walking calculator but he isn't home.
Cece00 replied: This.
remember, its ones, tens, hundreds, thousands....etc
Cece00 replied: In 44, the 4 is in the ONES spot.
In 31, its the one.
In 47, its the seven
The order from right to left is
ones, tens, hundreds, thousands, ten thousands...so on and so forth

bawoodsmall replied: Dont feel bad it was taking me some time. I was like I know this but not right now.
