HOLY COW!!!!!! - I feel like a MORON!!!

Boys r us wrote: I left work early yesterday so that I could go to a carseat saftey check. I mean..I was pretty confident I was a pro at putting it in CORRECTLY..but it never hurts to have the experts check it out..right..plus who wants to turn down an opportunity to have some hot cops all bent over in your car ..lol!!!

Anyhow..I feel like a complete and total IDIOT! Okay FIRST OF ALL...I had no clue that with the LATCH system I didn't have to use the seatbelt as well.
Second of all, the two straps for the latch the hook into the back of the seat, they weren't through the right level on the carseat..they needed to be fed up through the inside of the seat and into a different hole to come out of?!?! One that was up higher. Apparently, the holes they were in from the manufacturer was for using the carseat rear-facing. Okay..so sufice to say, by the time they were done, I was feeling pretty inferior on the topic of carseat safety!
But, I will say that it took 5 "EXPERTS" to get it in correctly!

If you have anyt doubts at all, you should definitely go to one of these things or stop by your local fire dept or police station!!
I'm so glad that I did!!! Oh yeah and they gave me a piece of rubber..like a mat..to put under my carseat so it wouldn't ruin the leather in my car!

**Just a side note funny** I was standing there and there were several cops inside my car, one reading the owner's manual for my car, one just yacking and offering advice and two others actually trying to get it in right. Well, one of them stands up and says, "Ma'am, I'm going to have to place you under arrest.."
Okay..that wiped the smile right off of my face!! REAL QUICK! I was like "Huh" and then he pulled out this toy knife that tanner had carried with him on halloween as part of his costume and he said," for having a concealed weapon in you car"
then he started laughing..
I guess the thing had gotten pushed up under the front seat, b/c I had no idea it was still in there!

you always seem to crack me up

Littlejojames replied:

rolling_smile.gif at least he had a sence of humour..... rolling_smile.gif

My2Beauties replied: Hee hee that is funny! OK so from what you said it sounds like I am totally putting Hanna's car seat in incorrectly! wacko.gif

kit_kats_mom replied: LOL. I totally know what you mean.

With my infant car seat, the cops had a heck of a time getting it installed properly. There was no way I could have done it, even with all of the instructions in the world. They gave me one of those rubber mats too as well as a pool noodle to recline the seat properly. The rubber mats also help with sliding if you have leather seats so that the carseat is more stable. They are the same rubber mats that you buy for either shelf liners or rug stoppers.

I am proud to say that my britax is so easy to install even I can do it properly. They did get it tighter than I had it but the cops said it was sufficent the way I had it too. They said they LOVED the britax seats mainly since they are so easy to install properly.

kimberley replied: i bet i would be the same way unsure.gif glad you got it figured out and LOL @ the toy. rolling_smile.gif

Maddie&EthansMom replied:

I can't go without saying, they should be easy to install for as much $$ as you pay for them! rolling_smile.gif thumb.gif I love the Britax carseats!!

Maddie&EthansMom replied: Nichole I'm so glad you got it figured out!! Kudos to you for taking the time! I wish all parents would. thumb.gif That is too funny about Tanner's toy. laugh.gif DH works at a dealership and they also are instructed on how to install carseats. Lucky for me! wink.gif

alice&arik replied: rolling_smile.gif Sounds like you had fun! rolling_smile.gif

I got Arik a new carseat from WIC, my x-bf drove back to Missouri with his other one. And I didn't really want to spend all that $$ on a new one. I thought they would let me borrow one. Anyway....I got it for free and it is pretty nice. A Evenflo, I think blink.gif But she showed me how to put it in, and it was so crazy how tight they can get. You could shake the whole car with the car seat. I had to take it out a few times and I HAVE been able to get it that tight again. I never would have guessed it needed to be that tight. blush.gif

A&A'smommy replied: LOLOLOL that halarious!!! rolling_smile.gif rolling_smile.gif

coasterqueen replied: biggrin.gif I know I had the same issues that were wrong with Kylie's seat when I went to have it checked. Dh was so sure he had put it in right the first time. rolleyes.gif

redchief replied: What a great idea. They do bicycle checks here, but never have done a car seat safety check. I'll have to put a bug in the police chief's ear about that program.

Nicole replied: Wow it took 5 of them ohmy.gif
I hope all 5 of them were cute biggrin.gif tongue.gif

And what i do to make it tight is put all my weight in one knee, and put that knee in the set and pull the strap and that makes it really tight smile.gif

Josie83 replied: U are not a moron! Braedon's never come to any harm and you are a good mummy for going to get it checked! xx
