HOw did this happen? - extreme weight gain

ammommy wrote: I've got my first official weigh in today at WW, so I got on the scale to see how bad it was. I knew that I had gained weight because my clothes were tight (plus I have been eating like crap and not exercising more than twice a week), but I gained 17 pounds in 3 weeks:o

Seriously, how does this happen? No AF so that's not it. A bit is water because I've not been good about drinking it. I'm not preggo, so that's not it. Any ideas how I could gain so much weight in such a little time? I was figuring 5-8 pounds, not 17!

mammag replied: I'd probably call the doctor. That is a significant gain in a small amount of time. Hope everything is alright!

A&A'smommy replied: I would definitly ask your docter about it! wink.gif

MommyToAshley replied: I would talk to your doc... the first thing that came to my mind is that it could be a sign of thyroid problems. I hope it is nothing, but I would definitely talk to your doctor. Please let us know what the doc says if you go.

ammommy replied:
Now that you mention it, when I was preggo with Megan, I did have some thyroid problems. Not bad enough to treat, just bad enough to keep an eye on.

Would tingling in the arm and dizziness go along with this? Anyone know? I'm off to call the doc.

jacobsmama replied: I'm a nurse at an OBGYN. Those are all very typical signs of thyroid problems. Especially if you had it during preg. It can be a problem after delivery. HOw many months postpartum are you? And did they check your thyroid with a bloodtest after you delivered? Hope everything works out for you. unsure.gif

moped replied:

kit_kats_mom replied: Keep in mind that it could also be that it's just a different scale than you are used too. wink.gif

Kaitlin'smom replied: I was going to add that it might be your scale is off (my old one was 5lb off), also if your uded to weight in in the am, and you checked in during the PM that can be 2-3lbs more also your clothes and shoe can add extra weight.

do you have a scale at home? if so did you come home and find the same weight?

so if none of the above is true then get checked by the doc

ammommy replied: Thanks for all of the info. I called the doc's office and talked to the NP who questioned me about my symptoms. I'm going in to see her and they will probably run some blood tests to check my thyroid level. At least I assume it's a blood test.
I weighed myself on my scale, at the same time of day, with the same amount of clothes on so it's not my scale. Actually the official weigh in was much more depressing.

Kaitlin'smom replied:
did you get the same weight with your scale as the WW got?

also I dunno but here is a thought do the up the scale at WW for the first one, that way you see results and stick with it? Just a thougth.

ammommy replied:
No, my scale is light by 5 pounds. My concern is that from the last time I weighed myself on my scale until I weighed myself on my scale this AM, I gained 17 pounds. So regardless of the actual number, it was higher by 17 pounds. Does that make sense unsure.gif

No, they don't fiddle with the scales at WW. I weighed in right after someone else who has been doing it for 6 months so that's not it.

Josie83 replied: dunno.gif Not the foggiest! unsure.gif Did u mention it to weight watchers people? xx

Kaitlin'smom replied:
yep that makes sence, sounds liek a trip to the doc will be good make sure nothign wired is going on
