Had to take Emma to ER

ediep wrote: on saturday night. She wouldn't go to bed and she was screaming her head off all night. I tried motrin, tylenol, teething tablets, ambesol, thinking it was her molars that were bothering her. After she slept an hour about midnight and she woke up screaming again, by 3am I decided to take her in. The ER doc said she has an ear infection and gave her antibiotics. He said tofollow up with her ped monday. So we just got back fromthe ped and he said that the ER doc didn't giver a strong anough dosage and now her eardrum is bulging from the infection. He changed her antibiotic and told me to give her motrin every 6 hours because she is also running a temp now too.

I have to take her to the ENT, I made an appointment for Friday. We are pretty sure they are going to suggest getting tubes put in. of course I am terrified of the surgery, but I would like her to have some relief from the constant ear infections.

My2Beauties replied:
Poor Emma! They had to give Hanna tubes for this very reason and I must say, as bad as I was freaked out about the surgery, it literally took like 2-3 minutes to perform, they are a little disoriented when they wake up, but then they sleep for a long time afterwards, wake up and all is well. Hanna has never ever had another ear infection since then and that was 4 years ago. hug.gif

amynicole21 replied: Poor baby sad.gif Has she been getting a lot of them? They usually say x amount in 6 months and tubes are justified... Sophia should have had them, but I was too freaked to get the surgery. Nora had it and had one infection the next week, but that was it. Good luck - I hope she gets some relief soon! hug.gif

ediep replied:
yes, she has had about 8 ear infections this winter... every time she gets a runny nose, she gets an ear infection.

stella6979 replied: Awww...how awful for her and for you. I hope she's feeling better soon. hug.gif

Sarah&Mackenzie replied: Poor thing. Hope she is feeling better soon.

MyBabeMaddie replied: Poor thing! I hope she is feeling better today! If she does need tubes its not as bad as it looks and if it helps her in the end it's definitely worth it!

Maddie&EthansMom replied: Poor baby! sad.gif I agree that tubes are worth it. I hope she feels better soon. hug.gif

Boys r us replied: Poor baby girl!! I know that the tubes are scary..but if it will offer relief to Emma, it WILL be worth it! hug.gif

Our Lil' Family replied: I think it'll make a world of difference. I'd also ask about removing the adenoids...I think that's what helped Thomas more than the tubes. GL!

~Roo'sMama~ replied: hug.gif Poor Emma! I'm sorry she's sick. sad.gif hug.gif

lisar replied: Oh that poor baby. I hate those darn ear infections. Tubes are a good way to go. Ofcourse Lexi is on her 5th pair that are permanent. But boy it does give them babies relief ASAP. I could tell a diffrence in Lexi the next day when she could actually hear the wind blowing. I never knew she couldnt hear things like that and the birds. Its weired I never knew it.

Good luck KUP

Calimama replied: I hope the tubes help. I imagine constant earaches can make her pretty miserable. sad.gif hug.gif hug.gif hug.gif

redchief replied: Poor baby! Hope she's feeling better soon.

:.Mrs_Mommy.: replied: Aaron and Lily got tubes in because of the ear infections. The doc said both of them were close to deaf because of the constant fluid build up. He said it would be like if I walked around with ear plugs in constantly. It was amazing when we got home and they woke up. They could hear everything. Aaron was in the backyard and he was listening to the leaves blow. He had never hear that before, I had never seen that before. He just stood there with his head cocked to the side and listened. Lily went in the front yard and listened to the traffic on the interstate. biggrin.gif

The only thing was baths were pretty bad, well running the water anyway. They had to stand outside the bathroom because the water running into the tub was to loud for them and hurt their ears. They still to this day like it more quiet than other kids. But that was well worth the reduction in ear infections. Aaron has had quite a few since then but not as bad and Lily hasn't had 1 since. Aaron has had a couple where his ear would drain blood and grossness but that doesn't happen all that often anymore, not enough to get another set of tubes anyway.

Good Luck!

Sam & Abby's Mom replied: omg, poor thing!!! I hope she's feeling better. I know the thought of surgery is scary,,,but I have to agree with the others that it will be worth it to HER. Think how much better she will feel. She's got to be miserable. Good luck to you guys!

Jamison'smama replied: Poor baby girl, how is she doing now?

Jack has tubes, it was such a reilef not to see him suffer through ear infections, he's had them for well over a year with no problems!

ediep replied: thanks everyone, Emma is feeling a bit better now. The new antibiotic seems to be helping her.

Funny thing, the ped gave me a name of an ENT to take her to and when I called them, he wasn't on my insurance. So, I just chose another ENT that was close by and got an appointment for Friday. I decided to check back with the ped, to see if he approved of the new ENT and he said (nicely) Well, maybe you could send me a list of the docs that take your insurance and I'll choose one for you.

I guess he didn't like the doc I chose that much, Anyway, I just chose her at ramdom. He gave me a name that I found on the united healthcare list, but of course we can;t get in to see him until May 27. He is the only ped ENT withing 25 miles of here.

MommyToAshley replied:
That's interesting, I guess he didn't like that ENT. Glad you followed up with your Ped. I'm sorry you have to wait, but that's probably a sign that it's a well-liked doc, right?

Poor Kiddo.. I'm sorry she's had it so rough with ear infections. Let us know what the ENT says. hug.gif

My2Beauties replied:
You know they like to put in words for their other friends too, I mean I'm sure this ENT is not a quack ya know, I would go to the appt just to see what they say to be honest. I always do my own referrals, I research myself. My doc always suggest someone but I go wherever I want to go. wink.gif
