Hannah saw the specialist today...

MomToMany wrote: It went OK. The Dr. said that she does have asthma for sure. He said it was unlikely that she has cystic fibrosis, but we're still waiting for the results of that test. They took a bunch of blood to check for allergies; he thinks it might be a dog allergy, or a dust mite allergy, but he's testing for all. We should get the results at the end of the week because of the holiday. He also mentioned the slim possibility of an auto-immune disorder, but he said it was very unlikely. He wants to wait until the blood work is back before going that route.

He doubled her dose of Pulmicort to twice a day in the nebulizer, and she's also on Singulair once a day before bed. He wants to treat her aggressively during the winter/school year so she hopefully won't get sick so often. Then we will slowly cut her back toward the summer, so her body can have a break.

I'm so relieved that it wasn't anything more serious. At least this is manageable and treatable.

mummy2girls replied: OH thank heavens it isnt cf. At least im glad the doc doesnt think its that. Asthma can get scarey as my niece has it...lets hope she gets better soon..Poor girl.

maestra replied: I'm glad your appointment went well. Hope the blood tests go well too!

MommyToAshley replied: Glad the appointment went well and the Doc doesn't think she has CF. That has to be a relief. I hope all the bloodwork comes back ok. It sounds like the new treatment will be helpful.

amynicole21 replied: Poor Hannah!! I hope that the meds do the trick, and that they figure out what's causing all of the trouble. Give her a hug from me, and keep one for yourself grouphug.gif grouphug.gif grouphug.gif

aspenblue1 replied: Glad the appointment went well. I hope the bloodwork comes back ok.

kimberley replied: glad to hear that everything is okay and easily treatable. hopefully Hannah won't get sick anymore and all the bloodwork comes back normal. asthma can be scary but if treated properly is not a big thing. James has asthma and rarely gets sick or needs his puffers... just the regular doses at regular times. we are probably doing allergy tests in january for him. keep us updated on Hannah's results. grouphug.gif

ediep replied: glad to hear you are getting some answers. I hope the treatments do the trick and her blood work comes back ok.
Good luck

DansMom replied: My nephew outgrew his asthma at about 3 years old---I hope Hannah outgrows hers too. It's good news that it doesn't seem to be CF. Keep us posted!

coasterqueen replied: Glad appointment went well and hope the blood tests come back good wink.gif grouphug.gif

Kaitlin'smom replied: glad its treatable and not CF, I have asmatha and its not fun, but at least I can controll it. Hugs to both of you grouphug.gif

Schnoogly replied: Is she on any allergy meds? Dh couldn't live without clarinex. It really does help him. I hope you can keep it under control, poor kid! But also glad she doesn't have CF.

MomToMany replied:
No, no allergy meds yet. Dr. wants to wait for the results to get back before putting her on more meds.

Thanks for all the well-wishes! It's nice to know we have such supportive friends!
