Has Anyone Else Heard Of A School Like this?
Crystalina wrote: I went to enroll Izabell into Kindergarten. She will be going to what (I've heard) is one of the best schools in the area. Named after Sen. John Glenn and right next to his house. In our area it is prime. When I went in I never saw any older kids and asked if maybe they were on the other side of the building. She told me that the school is only for Kindergarten through Second grade. Then they go to another school up the road for Third through I think she said Fifth Grade. Then there is another school for a few more grades and then the last for older kids. I REALLY like this setup but have never heard of it before. The schools I know of go from K-6 and then 7-8th and then high school.
mckayleesmom replied: I have never heard of it, but it sounds like a great idea....It would keep older kids from being able to bully the younger ones.
Bee_Kay replied: Yeah, That is how it USED to be here. Things have changed so darn much here, due to financial (or so they call it) reasons.
I think it's a fabulous set up.... (how it used to be)
Now, in the past 15 or so years they have closed schools and lumped young children in with highschoolers.... I don't like it.
Crystalina replied: I think I'm going to like it also. They kind of ease into everything together without influences from the older kids. The school I went to used to be the best but now they have closed all the smaller elementary schools and crammed all of the kids into one big school. My sis's kids went there for awhile but there were so many bullys and "mini gangs". I say 'mini gangs' because they were just little elementary kids trying to be thugs. We have no real "gangs" in our area. I was scared to death to put her in school and finding out how this school works really took a load off.
C&K*s Mommie replied: Never heard of it quite that way. I went to a public K-5 school, that are next door to or are semi-linked (through a corridor) to an elem school. That went through 1-5, another school that I went to was 6-8 grades, and so on 9-12 at another school. I am not positive of all the schools in our area. I think (could be wrong) most are like this, maybe the K-5 is in the same school as the 1st through 5th. Unless it is a private school, then I think they run from K-5 through H.S. in one school.
CosmetologyMommy replied: I have never heard of that but I actually went to a school that was K-8
Momof3inMe replied: The town we use to live in had k-3 then 4&5 then 6-8 then 9-12.
Now where we live they have k-4 then 5-8 wasnt sure how I felt about that b/c ds1 is in 5th grade but he is doing great and I really love the school! then 9-12
Maddie&EthansMom replied: I have heard of that, but they don't do things that way around here. We do have a 'Senior High' that is seniors only..it's in Plano. And they have 'middle school' that is 6-8, instead of jr high. I attended elementary K-6, jr high 7-8, and high school 9-12. (in my home town)
I think you and Izabell willl both really like it. It sounds like a great setup to me!
BAC'sMom replied: Our schools are set as follows:
Pre-k + Kinder
1st - 3rd grade
4th - 5th grade
6th ,7th and 8th grade
Then 9th- 12th
Five different schools.....
Chiflata2003 replied: Schools back at home went PreK-4th grade, then an intermediate school for 5-6th grade. Then middle school for 7-8th grade, a school just for 9th grade, then the high school for 10-12th grade.
luvbug00 replied: ours are
k-6 and 9-12
Mya's school is a magnet school and they spend the first 2 years of their education with the same teacher..( studies prove the kids learn more this way..)
Mommy2Isabella replied: I have been to some schools like that. In my movings all around the country ... they aren't very common, but it keeps the kids closer in age so there isn't as much of a CONFLICT of intrest < meaning boys and girls getting involved too early.
A&A'smommy replied: In our town we have five schools one private and very small, and then our public schools where my husband and I work (i only work the elementry once a week helping a tester) one elementry prek-2nd grade, then we have our other elementry school which is 3-5th grades, middle school 6-8th grades and our highschool and there all on different parts of town. Anyway they are all really good schools our elementry school is one of the highest rated in our state and pretty close to the top for all over.
MamaJAM replied: I've never heard of anything like that before. The school my girls attend is Pre-K through 8th grade (yes, there are many kids who attend for 10 full years)...then they have to find a high school.
mom21kid2dogs replied: Ours are like that temporarily while they rebuild all our elementary schools. I *think* they are considering it as a permanent option in the master plan but they haven't released the details yet. O is going to the Catholic school which is PreK thru 6th grade. The class sizes are extremely small, though. This year's K class has 9 kids. The rest of the grades are combined classes(1&2; 3&4; 5&6)
MamaJAM replied: The school my girls are at is small like that too. The largest class right now is 1st grade - there are 18 kids in the class. The smallest is the 8th grade - there are only TWO kids in the class (a boy and my oldest DD)....they did combine the 8th grade with the 7th grade for some classes this year -- but they have several classes separately (and DD has math alone because she's in algebra 2 - the boy is in algebra 1 with a bunch of 7th graders). The other grades have 5-12 kids each.
paradisemommy replied: wow..this is all interesting..i think i would like the set-up of the smaller kids all together...
now where i grew up was messed up because we had k-6th, 7 to 9, then 10 to 12..weirdos..
AlexsPajamaMama replied: I went to 8th grade at a school that was k-8, and then the highschool was 9-12 with kids from three differant towns. It was a shock for those who went to school for 9 years with only the same kids
holley79 replied: I have never heard that either but I love the idea of it. I wish they did that here.
