Has anyone had a broken nose before?
coasterqueen wrote: About 3, almost 4 weeks ago Kylie and I were playing. I was on the floor lying down and she was sitting up right in front of me. She must have gotten upset about something and wailed her body back at me, and WHAM right into the side of my nose. I immediately started screaming because it was so painful and so sore and I was so light-headed. That child has a HARD HEAD!
Well, I thought it would get better, but it hasn't. It is still VERY sore to the touch. It's not swollen on the outside, but that skin/bone right in the middle of your nostrils, that area is swollen on the INSIDE of my nose. Kinda gross to explain it, but if I was to look in the mirror at one nostril the bone/skin piece is really swollen and less of the nostril hole is visible. Does that make sense? It's just still sore and now I seem to have a sinus infection on that side of my face I'm sure the two aren't related, but it's worse because my face just hurts really bad.
I talked with my boss' wife who is a physical therapist and she said I could have broke my nose and not have any outside swelling and that there isn't much a doctor could do for me. Just wondering if anyone has broken their nose and knows? LOL. that rhymed
I put a call in to my doc to speak to the nurse. I just hate taking off of work, going clear across town and paying the $10 copay if my doc is going to tell me either 1) no it's not broken, just let it heal or 2) yes it is broken and there is nothing we can do for it.
The bad thing is Kylie has accidently bumped me in that same spot a few times since making it worse Why do these kids have to beat up on mommy? I swear if I went to a hospital and they saw all the bumps and bruises on me they would think my DH was beating me up when in fact it's my DD!
jen replied: I have never to my knowledge broken my nose ..................but I did have a horse I had in training one time rear up and hit me in the face with his head and I thought I may have broken my nose. It hurt for months and the septum (that little separation of the nostrils) was very swollen and the bridge of my nose was swollen and puffy but in time it went away. I was afraid I was going to have a bump like you see on some people that have broken their nose! So I put ice on it but I don't know if that helped or not. I also had a felt like I had a sinus infection and my eye got puffy a couple of times. It just finally healed on its own and hasn't given me any problems since. I hope it gets better, I am sure it will!
amynicole21 replied: Yikes! That sounds awful No advice, but lots of and I hope it heals up quickly... whatever it is!
kimberley replied: ouch! i have never broken my nose but they say when you do you usually get a black eye too. if it is still bothering you in a couple of days you should get it looked at. i hope you feel better soon.
aspenblue1 replied: I have never had a broken nose. I hope you feel better soon.
coasterqueen replied: I honestly don't think she broke it, at least I hope not. Didn't get a black eye, either. It's probably what Jen said and it will just take quite a while to heal. Ouchie!
Kaitlin'smom replied: ooo I hope it heals fast!
kit_kats_mom replied: I have broken my schnozz once and "bent my beak" as the Dr. So affectionally called it, once. If it was broken, the bone higher up would be squishy and look bent. You may have fractured it or just bent the cartalige which hurts a lot too. The Docs can't really do anything for it unless it is really broken and if memory serves, they didn't really do anything different then except for realign it and give me stronger drugs. LOL
I hope you heal quickly!
coasterqueen replied: LOL. Yeah, I just spoke with my doc a few minutes ago and he said he wants me to come in. He said I probably have a hairline fracture, but he wants to make sure I'm not having any breathing probs. I told him I wasn't but when I mentioned I have a sinus infection on that side of my face he got concerned. I'm sure it's nothing, he probably just wants his co-pay, lol. So I go tomorrow
Maddie&EthansMom replied: OUCH!! Let us know what he says. Just thinking about a broken nose gets me weak in the knees! Tell Kylie to take it easy on mommy. Maddie has always been real rough and horses around with Scotty in the floor. I know she has head butted him in the nose a few times! I hope and pray your nose is not broken.
A&A'smommy replied: ugh im sorry about your nose i hope you get some good advice from the others!!! ((((HUGS)))
mummy2girls replied: I havent personally gotten a broken nose...but Aron has. and he had it swollen in the areas your talking about... I hope you feel better soon.
Beccas_mom replied: No help Here but I hope you feel better soon
victoire2002 replied: I broke my nose in college on a boat trip on a lake. We crossed over the wake of a passing barge, and ended up airborne for a few seconds before crashing down. Well, the largest girl on the boat came down smack down on top of my NOSE!!!!!!!!
I had bleeding and soreness. I went to an ear, nose and throat doc and he suggested surgery as I had a deviated septum, but said that I would be fine without it. My nose still looks the same, but I do remember how painful it was....
Sorry to hear about it... unless you want to get a deviated septum corrected, they really can't do too much, but perhaps a doc could help get swelling down with anti-inflammants.

jen replied: OUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
coasterqueen replied: Thanks everyone! Doc looked at it and said I could have a hairline fracture but it wasn't worth the cost of the x-ray to find out because there would not be anything he could do for it really. He said it wasn't broken, which I really didn't think it was. He said that the trauma from being hit there and then the sinus infection I got on that side caused a bacterial infection (ewwww) in my nose. So he gave me an antibiotic cream and said if it wasn't feeling better in a few days to use the oral antibiotic he prescribed me.
What a hoot! I will have to write all this down in Kylie's baby book for sure! I'll have to let her know how much pain she caused mommy
