Have you ever joined a womans gym? - Like Curves, or Lucille Roberts?
TeagansMom609 wrote: I have a Lucille Roberts by me and was thinking of joining because I hate working out in a gym with men. I feel so uncomfortable because they stare at you while your just trying to work out, and I end up not going and wasting my money. I was wondering if anyone has ever gone to a womans gym, and if they liked it. I dont know what their prices are yet but it cant be half as bad as the place I checked out a few days ago that wanted $550 down, and $60 a month.
mckayleesmom replied: I have wanted to join curves also,,,but I heard you can only go 3 times a week for 30 minutes...that isn't going to be enough for my big butt
loveydad replied: Yes but they kicked me out after I tried to shower in their locker room.
mckayleesmom replied: Ps....I don't mind working out at Gyms with men and here is my theory on why......I had 2 kids to get fat...what is their excuse....
TeagansMom609 replied: Yea, I heard that about curves too. 30 minutes wouldnt be enough for this bootie either!
TeagansMom609 replied: LMAO!
loveydad replied: LoL.
I have ten kids. That's why I'm fat.
Actually I'm UNDERWEIGHT . HA try that.
mckayleesmom replied: So is my hubby Vig.....I just think its a good way to forget about the stares at the gym.
loveydad replied: I lost about 25 or more punds in a two month period. Yeah it's not a fun thing.
Gyms aren't for me anyway.
ammommy replied: I looked into Curves, but it wasn't intense enough for me. Frankly, a 30 minute workout is just a good warm-up. I say check it out and if it is a full gym with real cardio options, weight training, a trained staff, and some classes if you like them, go for it!
mckayleesmom replied: my husband has lost 16 lbs In the last 2 weeks...they just did blood tests the other day to check his thyroid...he is still waiting on the results...he did get 1 lab report back that said their was indeed an issue with his thyroid...he is still waiting to find out the other results.
loveydad replied: That's too bad! I hope he's feeling better soon!
i was coming down hard off a certain drug and I was not eating at all or very much when I lost mine.
I hope he gains his back!
mummy2girls replied: i AM CURRENTLY AT A LADIES GYM. I STARTED BACK IN JAN. (sorry caps was on). And i have lost a total of 10 lbs. Anyways... I pay 30 bucks a month. and it has a drop in centre for kids. And i feel so comfortable going because we are all girls. and i dont feel comfortable around men...
ctymom replied: wow! Do they give you lipo with each visit there or something?? geez... that's alot of money. Even the big name places like Gold's Gym doesnt charge that! LOL
I never liked the guys being around at the gyms either. Real meat market...one gym I visited even had a bar! How bad is that?

A&A'smommy replied: We have a curves here its 29 dollars a month. If I was going to join a gym it would definitly be a woman only gym!
ediep replied: I was a memeber of Lucielle Roberts, but it closed down. I really liked it though. I loved the step classes and the kickboxing.h for You couldn't beat it for the price. I think I paid $199 for 2 years!!! I am thinking of joining WOW now because I really miss the aerobics classes
coasterqueen replied: I've never joined a woman's club but I agree I'm not a fan of the other clubs. My reason is that I feel EVERYONE is staring at me because 3/4 of the people in those gyms are men/women who REALLY don't need to work out.
gr33n3y3z replied: No lol But if I'm going to join a gym its going to men in there
TeagansMom609 replied: Good, atleast im not the only one who doesn't want to work out with a bunch of drooling idiots!
3_call_me_mama replied: I'm a member of the curves in our town adn I love it! It is a 30 minute workout but it is actually quite intense and it really gets your heart rate going. It's the kinds of machines available that make the workout what it is and not the length of the workout. Also you can go more than 3 times a week, it's just reccommended that you go 3 times per week. I used to go 4 days a week and i some friend wheo go 6 (they are closed on sunday) . It's inexpensive adn definately worth it in my opinion....
loveydad replied: That's not really fair.
A lot of men at gyms don't even LIKE women. LOL
Shaykinmom replied: I go to Curves. I love it. You make it has intense has you want it and you work all muscles. I go 4 times a week and I usually make my work out a little longer than 30 mintues. They don't care. I live in a small town so they aren't over crowded. I strated going in December and last time I was measured (which has middle of Jananry, I guess I should have it down again) I've lost 6 inches.
They let you try it out for a week. So try it, if you don't like it you don't have to join and it doesn't cost you anything.
coasterqueen replied: Not just that but it's not even about men drooling...it's about all the skinny people in there looking at my fat self. Course maybe I've never encountered men drooling at me in places like that because well, just because.
MomToJade&Jordan replied: I have considered joining Curves. Probably not now, but in the future. from what I have heard it's a really great place to go. I have to agree with Karen about the regular gyms. We had a full working gym in college that was part of our tuition. I would go in there and be surrounded by tiny soroity girls in their tiny workout clothes. Did not do well with the self-esteem. I managed to find out the times when the gym wasn't as busy and went then.
gr33n3y3z replied: LOL Vig
Kaitlin'smom replied: yes I am a member of Ladie Peremier Fitness, its great, all wonem free child care, tons of classes, suna, pool, hottub, free tanning, personal traniners. Its great Ihave one close to home and work. I also did not want a gym that had men, did not want them checking my boobs out while I was working out. I am very happy and comfortable there, I just need to find more time to go.
texasp3 replied: I belonged to Lady of America for years. I loved it a lot. I particularly liked LOA because they have onsite daycare with TVs in the corners of the workout areas that show the daycare room so you can work out and see you kid. The daycare room had staff in there, the TV was just so women could also see what was going on in there. It was $43 a month which was a deal if you consider the fact that I could go any number of times and didn't have to pay extra for daycare or make additional arrangements.
I don't enjoy going to a coed gym for any number of reasons. Partly it's some of the people who tend to frequent them ... I'm not sure who annoys me more - the muscle-head men who resent me using "their" gym equipment or the dingy chicks who are only there to prance around in the hopes that some muscle head will pick them up. Ick!!
gr33n3y3z replied: I think a few of you need help and a gym wont do it!! You know who you are. Sorry but putting down thin ppl. like me is very rude and the closest gym that only has woman is an hour away.
Boys r us replied: I am a member of a co-ed gym. I actually have no problems with it, plus Rick and I can go together in the evenings (* I love having my husband there rooting me on..or running with him on the track) and it also has a family pool in the summer that we can go to that's outside with a big waterslide that the kids love! The men at my gym have never bothered me or any other woman there from what I see, I think that whole thing really is more a preconceived notion of how it is, & not really how it is once you're there. I've been a member of several co-ed gyms and never had a problem. I will say that the gym we go to is a relatively expensive one so most of the people who are there are people who are serious about their workout. As for skinny women being there who don't need to be..maybe that's how they stay skinny? or come to think of it..maybe that's how they GOT skinny!
texasp3 replied: Oh cool, I would love working out with my husband - for that I would definitely go to a coed gym! We've just never found a situation in which we could do that regularly.
I think my bad experiences with coed gyms come from living in university towns where the majority of the people at the gym were either young men who thought I had no business in "their space" or said dingy chicks that take up equipment they don't bother using properly so they can use the gym as a pick up joint.
By the way... I didn't read all of the posts really carefully, but if anyone thinks MY opinion translated into "putting down skinny people" .. um, no way. I've spent much of my life fit and trim thanks to working out at gyms (and no thanks to my genes that want me to be plump and prone to heart disease!) I admire anyone who takes good care of their body ... and that's exactly why my experiences at co-ed gyms have pissed me off.... I'm either dealing with arrogant body builders who think my efforts are inferior to their own or trying to work around women who aren't there to work out at all. My experience has been that going to a women's gym eliminates that entire dynamic and allows me to share my workout time and space with other people who are serious about fitness.
I wouldn't be surprised if I had a different experience at any of the urban co-ed gyms around here... but by the time I was choosing a gym, I was too put off by years of bad experiences in communities dominated by university populations. Which is kind of ironic, considering the amount of time I've spent being a university student myself!
TeagansMom609 replied: Well I joined Lucille Roberts today. I went there after work and worked out for an hour. I liked it alot. Teagan had a great time with all of the kids in the play room. For the first time I felt comfortable working out around other people. It just seemed like we were all women, there for one thing, and that was to work out. I take it theres alot of women who feel the same way I do about co-ed gyms and some men acting like they have never seen a woman in person before because otherwise there wouldnt be gyms made just for women. They dont have all men gyms I guess because men dont have that problem.
Des replied: *sigh* i am sooo not a gym person! wish i was tho - i could do with some weight loss!!
