Hello Everyone! Thank you for your prayers! - Update on Cam's surgery

Holley gave you an update/prayer request for my son, Cam. (Thanks sweetie!) I wanted to thank you all for your prayers & thoughts during this time. It's been pretty rough for awhile. Cam was very sick for a very long time. He had everything under the sun. Either it was broncitus, pnemonia, pink eye...you name it, he had it. It's been a long 5 months.

What lead to his surgery, was Cam had a double ear infection for 2.5 months that wouldn't go away w/meds. Then they did a chest & face x-ray when he had pnemonia and realize his adnoids/sinuses were completly blocked. And they realized Cam not only had a double ear infection, but that he had sleep apnea and couldn't breath through his nose. Then they kept testing him for Strep Throat but it would come back negative. His tonsils were always red, pussy & infected. No matter what we tried, it never cleared up. After his hearing test they said he was very limited in what he could hear, and that is why his speech was so behind. So with everything he was going through, they knew the only solution was surgery...why was hard to swollow at first since he's only 2 yrs old.

The surgery went very well. His ENT surgeon said his adnoids were very large and pushed up against his nasal passage way, and they were infected. His tonsils were in the same condition. They were so infected & swollen that was the reason he would gag up his food & couldn't swollow. And his ears had a lot of thick fluid and was also infected. So he was one big ball of infection.
One thing we learned, that we didnt' know before, was that he has severe allergies. Even though I had told his Ped. doctor over & over again he had allergies, she would tell me he was to young. The ENT said if we would've treated his allergies...he wouldn't have had the problems he does now. So they are going to start treating him for that now too.

But we have seen such great improvements in Cam. It's been amazing! His speech has greatly improved. Everyday he is saying several new words. And now he is talking in sentences, which he never did before his surgery!! He isn't in pain anymore, he is sleeping through the night cause he can breath. His mood is so much happier and he has more energy. I'm very thankful that we did this, cause he is a totally different kid!

Our family is just praising God for pulling Cam through this. And for his speedy recovery. And we thank you for praying & lifting up Cam.

I sure have missed you all. And I think about you all the time. I really hope that I can come back & visit with you all more. It was really nice having this great support system here & a great group of friends. So you'll probably see my face around here more often then it's been. I've been working full-time so I haven't been on the computer much, but I would like to come here from time to time and say hello.

It's great to see you again! I'm glad to hear that you've gotten to the bottom of Cam's health issues, and that in the end, they were all treatable. I had a similiar experience with my son when he was about Cam's age- his speech was quite delayed b/c of chronic temporary hearing loss due to ear infections.
Although it was a lot to go through, I'm sure it was the right thing for Cam in the long run. So glad you've decided to join us again.

So good to hear that all is still well with Cameron, sometimes all I can do is give virtual so that is what I tend to do. I hope you know he is often in my thoughts, and although I cannot express it, I still wish him very well with his recovery, and prognosis.

DansMom replied: What a relief to get down to the bottom of Cam's health issues---and on the road to recovery. Great news! Do they know yet what his allergies are? Are they seasonal or food? Just curious because Daniel has both food and seasonal allergies.

Are you in a situation where you can switch pediatricians to someone who understands allergies better?---you must be tempted to do so, I imagine.

Cam is doing FANTASTIC since surgery. We have gotten great results from it. Everyday I pick him up from daycare, they always tell me how much he loves to talk now. He's just been alot happier and things are so different now...in so many positive ways.
I hope I get a chance to catch up with everyone. It's been 5 days since I posted this, and there was already 2,000 new posts in less than a week. Where do I start?

mckayleesmom replied: Glad he is recovering well. I had the same thing happen when I was 6 or 7...they only had to remove my adnoids...but before they figured out the problem I was almost deaf for about a year...I could barely hear the tv at max volume.
