Help!! WWYD?
Swood75 wrote: Ok..here is the dilemma..I went for my "late" 2 week pp check-up and spoke to the Dr about birth control..Well,I KNOW I DO want my tubes tied..(no more babies for me-am getting to old etc)and he told me there are 2 ways of tying them..
1) Done by laparoscopy surgery where they make a small incision in or around the belly button and it is effective immediately will be sore for a few days and the recovery time is a few days..
2) Called Essure and is where they go in through your jayjay and uterus (no incision at all)recovery time 1-2 days and will have to use other form(s) of BC for 3 months..
I don't know which one I should get done..Has anyone had either procedure done and if so,which one and how did it go? I know the Dr reccomended the Essure procedure as he said it is more effective..I just hate the thought of having to use other forms of BC for 3 months..
mom21kid2dogs replied: Obviously, I've not had either but if my option was surgical vs non surgical (especially with the non surgical being MORE effective) I'd go with non surgical, hands down.
boyohboyohboy replied: I have heard that the new way that is non surgical is very new and might not be as effective..new procedures always make me nervous..I had my tubes done during my last c section..but even then it wasnt bad at all. I was fine and on no meds in two days..
Swood75 replied: well,it isn't new..he said they have been doing it for about 10 yrs..I am really on the fence with this decision...
boyohboyohboy replied: to me that is not very long, and I think I would wonder if he has been doing it that long? and how many times has it failed? I googled it and came up with alot of info you might want to do that.
my2monkeyboys replied: I think I would go with the first option, only bc I'm more reliant on tried-and-true methods when it comes to medical areas.
~Roo'sMama~ replied: I'd go with the non surgical option. If there's a way to do it without having to be put under I'd take it! Having to use another form of BC for 3 months wouldn't bother me because we use condoms anyways and what's another three months using them before we could be done with them forever.
Crystalina replied: The first sounds less painful.
Cece00 replied: I had a tubal but I was already cut open for a csection so it wasnt really an issue.
if it were me....i'd PROBABLY pick the nonsurgical option just because it sounds like more "downt time" than a non surgical option but I'd be REALLY tempted to do it bc of the birth control thing for 3 months. I'm impatient LOL
If you can afford to be "down" for a couple of days, the surgical option might be better. I've had laproscopic gallbladder removal surgery and lap surgery itself is not a big deal and you feel better really quickly.
luvmykids replied: I had it done laproscopically, and it wasn't bad at all. I had soreness around the incision for a day or two but nothing horrible.
My2Beauties replied: I'd always opt for a non-surgical method anytime. I've had laproscopic gallbladder surgery too and your incisions are very sore. You guys on here are superheroes who say a few days, it's been 3 weeks and my soreness (to the touch) of my incisions are just now going away. After week #2 when I took my bandages off my shirt rubbing them hurt like heck I'm ok now and I do have a tiny scar by my belly button that I'd rather not have even if it is tiny no one wants a scar! I also have another scar under my BB's that you wouldn't have to deal with. The one on my belly button even though not as big as the other one hurt the absolute worst.
DillsMommy replied: I'd go with what ever method is more effective.
coasterqueen replied: I'm not sure what I'd do, especially with the one being so new. I guess it would also depend on if you may have any other female issues. I know that there is question for me as to whether I have endometriosis so I'd probably go the laproscopic way so they can determine that at the same time.
I can't really tell you what to do. Just go with what you think would be best for you. I'm sure both are safe and effective.
Hillbilly Housewife replied: Um, getting your tubes ties IS contraception. Why would you have to use other contraception?! I honestly never heard of it.
I had the laparoscopy done last spring. It was really neat, actually, the way they explained the procedure.. They made 2 insicions, actually. One just under my belly button, and one near my pubic bone. They fill the cavity with some sort of gas so they have more working space and they can see better what they're doing... and they go from there.
The discomfort afterwards wasn't bad at all, a couple cramps for a couple hours afterwards, I think mostly due to the fact that there was gas bloating my abdomen.. lol As for pain, well, it's a cut, it hurts like any other cut. Just had to be careful when sitting down / getting up, because the movement could/would impact the cut, and pull it open. Conveniently placed, I tell ya. The incision was the worst of it, pain wise, and even that wasn't that bad.
Honestly, I'd do it again in a second.
