Here we go..back to the feeding team AGAIN

coasterqueen wrote: sad.gif I am so super bummed about this. When we saw Megan's doc last month for her well baby visit he seemed not concerned about her weight, but did seem concerned about her sucking her tongue still. He said that if it's not corrected it could change the shape of her face over a long period of time and that wouldn't be good so he wanted us to go back to the feeding team and see what they said. We hadn't seen the FT since late December. Well we saw the FT today and not only are they concerned w/the tongue sucking but they are concerned about her weight. sad.gif They made me feel like my breastmilk isn't giving her the caloric intake she needs to grow and that I should supplement with formula or worse a tbsp of cream! dry.gif Bull crap on that one! I'm so made at them. First off breastmilk contains MORE calories than formula and I didn't nurse her to end up giving her formula and CREAM? OMG.

Anyways, so the whole issue of the tongue sucking is stressing me out because Dh thinks it's all hogwash and I'm freaked that if I don't do what they say then maybe it will be an issue down the road. I wouldn't want that for her, ya know. sad.gif So now we go back to the FT every month, will also have exercises to do at home with her AND we'll have in-home therapy visits for a while. sad.gif

moped replied: Ahhh Karen, I am sorry they made you feel that way - I did not know about the tongue sucking - when did that start????

ediep replied: oh no! i never even heared anything about tongue sucking and it being so harmful... I sure hope that the FT helps out

amynicole21 replied: Hmmm.. I never knew that tongue sucking was a problem? A little girl of a friend of ours did that until she was about 4 or 5 then just grew out of it dunno.gif I hate when people make you feel badly about your ability to provide for your child mad.gif You know you are doing a great job... and if you don't know that, then let me tell you - YOU ARE DOING A GREAT JOB! hug.gif

Kaitlin'smom replied: hug.gif is she losing weight? if not then personly I woud not be concerend. I wont go into a bunch here.

I to have not heard of tounge sucking being harmful unsure.gif

hug.gif your doing an awsome JOB

3_call_me_mama replied: AH HUGS!!! Poor mom! I would go with your gut on this. You are a bright and smart woman... you know your child best ! Hang in there!!

coasterqueen replied: Thanks everyone. The change in facial shape happens over a long period of time, not sure how long but the FT says the jaw and tongue are heavy and the more her mouth is open w/the tongue towards the front of the mouth all the time the more it can cause that jaw to hang more lose. sad.gif Not only that but it can cause extreme orthodontic issues AND speech issues. Because they think that this also ties with her weight issue they want it under control right away. The doc said if she doesn't start gaining more in the next three months it will be a serious concern for him. I'm literally confused since her PED thinks she's fine. wacko.gif

Kirstenmumof3 replied: hug.gif I'm sorry you are going through this! I honestly thought that it was only a Claudia thing (the tongue sucking), she would do this to sooth herself, when she was sleeping she did this. I never saw it as a problem. You are doing the right thing by Breastfeeding your baby, it's healthier than formula. Try not to stress about it! hug.gif

huggybugboy replied: I'm sorry Karen. I don't really know anything about tongue sucking. Is it really worse than a pacifier or any other soother? I have never heard about the cream thing. Sounds like bs to me. growl.gif

NEWMOM05 replied: I'm sorry you are going through this. hug.gif

amymom replied: Oh Karen I am so sorry. hug.gif I wish I had great words of wisdom, but I think you are doing a great job! Mom knows best!!! hug.gif

MommyToAshley replied: I don't know anything about tongue sucking either... sorry. What about a paci, do they think giving her a paci instead is a good idea? Will she take one?

She doesn't look underweight to me in the pics? dunno.gif And, I agree with you that BM is best. It just sounds like a really frustrating situation all the way around. But hang in there, it will all work out. hug.gif

My2Beauties replied: I as thinking the same thing, can you try and give her a paci instead, will that harm her? I mean I have never heard of tongue sucking and furthermore I don't see how it could cause a problem sad.gif Im sorry you're going through this. Does she eat solid foods yet? Doesn't that help out with her weight?
