Hey 30 somethings... - flashback

amynicole21 wrote: I just had a memory from the past (watching Rudolph the Rednosed Raindeer just now). Do you remember when there was a Christmas TV special coming on (or Halloween, etc) the spinning, rainbow word "special" that would spin in a really trippy way before the show started? It was enough to send me into a frothy, adrenalin-induced frenzy! I would seriously nearly pass out from excitement rolling_smile.gif

I miss the simple things that used to excite me laugh.gif

MommyToAshley replied: LOL! I am laughing because it is so true.

I remember when we had to WAIT for the Christmas specials to come on TV. We'd mark the calendar and count the days ... not like kids now that either have it on DVD, can DVR (or TIVO) it, or it repeats 100 times on TV the two months before Christmas.

amynicole21 replied: OMG, I just found it online! I'm so excited rolling_smile.gif

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: Oh yes! I would see it in the old tv guide and ask my mom to keep reminding me when it would be on. And then I remember asking to stay up a little late. We would make popcorn. There was something about that voice, who was the guy that always narrated those shows? Still gives me the happy jitters when I hear his voice. Now this was probably on one of those tvs where you had to get up to change it. The big "clunk, clunk" when you turned the big dial. Ah yes, the simple things. sleep.gif

Burl Ives thumb.gif

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied:
OMG, I started typing that name, but erased because I wasn't exactly sure!!! Ha, see, I'm not losing my memory afterall! laugh.gif emlaugh.gif How did it go?..."This is Burl Ives....wishing you all a Merry Christmas...and a jolly good night!" Something like that?

luvmykids replied: Oh man, that brings back memories...it was a HUGE deal...the anticipation alone was enough to kill me at that tender young age rolling_smile.gif Popcorn, turning the lights off, and yes, using a dial to change the channel laugh.gif

I was so annoyed this year, we watched the Charlie Brown Christmas special (a TRUE classic emlaugh.gif ) and made this big production of it....then Sunday night they were advertising that it would be on again dry.gif Makes it seem like not such a big deal.

kit_kats_mom replied: Um, Amy...do you think that maybe you need a more challenging job? I dont' even have time to think about this stuff. rolling_smile.gif

yes, I do remember that thing and the excitement about it. you goofball

Maddie&EthansMom replied: I'm about to bust a gut laughing!!! I was just telling my kids about this when the Charlie Brown Halloween special came on. I told them how big of a deal it was to be able to watch it. They still get excited to see it and it's fun watching their eyes light up. I admit, I watch it with them everytime. It makes me feel like a kid again. Same reason I LOVE Sesame Street. happy.gif

Jamison'smama replied: I remember too----the Charlie Brown movie that made me cry everytime when the sign at the hospital said "no dogs allowed"....oh man, our kids have no idea. I remember only seeing The Sound of Music during Thanksgiving weekend and the Wizard of Oz once a year. Then came Christmas with kid shows at night...that was the BEST!!

MyBrownEyedBoy replied:
I was just thinking of The Wizard of Oz. I totally agree, the simple things were the best things.

bawoodsmall replied:
ahh...I do remember how fun that was. I have a lot of brothers and sisters so we would all be waiting. I do love my dvr though

lovemy2 replied:
Oh my gosh - I totally couldn't remember what you were talking about until you posted that - that was the best rolling_smile.gif

MomToJade&Jordan replied:
I so remeber the excitement of the yearly showing of the Wizard of OZ. Now I have it on DVD.

rolling_smile.gif I had forgotten about the spinning special before shows until just now.

grapfruit replied:
OMG!! I was just telling Tim about my FAVORITE Charlie Brown movie while we were watching the Christmas special!!!!

I LOVE the one where they go to France!!!! And Snoopy goes to the "tavern" everynight and gets "root beer" and staggers back to the Chatau!!

And I love the scene where they're all in a car eating their sandwiches except Charlie Brown b/c the trunk of the car ate his piece and Peppermint Patty says "Gee Chuck, it was awful nice of you to share your piece w/the car" "Look how great the car is running now that it had some bread" rolling_smile.gif Too funny....

Ok, now that I completely embarrassed myself. smile.gif

Celestrina replied:
Same here!

Crystalina replied: Man!
That just threw me back into tight braids, warm jammies and fighting with my sister for the closest spot next to Mommy on the couch! wub.gif
