Hi just wanted to say we had the worst - scare of our lives...(dumb mommy moment)

booey2 wrote: we went out earlier to visit DH's dad because he doesn't have a car anymore and can't get out so we went to his house. As I was getting the kids ready I guess I forgot to turn off the stove where I was heating up some hot dogs for Thomas. We were gone for about 1 1/2 hours and when we got home we could hear a beeping sound like our smoke detector going off. Once DH opened the front door we knew it was our house so DH ran into the kitchen and there was my pot of chared hot dogs. puke.gif We are still airing out the house and have been doing so for about 30 mins. We are all okay and luckily there was no grease involved or we could be looking at a lot more cleanup then we have. The upstairs is pretty smoke free but it still kinda smells like smoke. I have vacummed and sprayed Febreeze in the main rooms where it was really bad. I have never before seen so much smoke or smoke pouring out of a building like it did my front door. I feel so bad right now and am in tears bawling.gif as I write this because it is just hitting me that I could have burned down our home. I don't care for all the material things but the photos and our home would have been gone. I don't know how I forgot to turn off that burner. I remember going back to check the stove and I thought I did turn it off. BUT I didn't. new_tomato.gif

Oh well, we are all okay and I guess that is all that matters. My neighbour who is retired and BTDT before said not to worry about it to much it is all a rite of passage. But boy do I feel bad. blush.gif

My DH is awesome, he keeps telling me not to worry that we will be alright and everything is okay. Boy to I love him. wub.gif

Thanks to all who have read this, I really needed to get it out and I can't talk to DH and I don't want to call my sister or family and look like a fool. So I will share some cyber moose track ice cream to all those who made it this far. (this is one awesome ice cream I discovered on my holidays and all I really remember is the whole miniture peanut butter cups that is in it, it is great).

Thanks again,

MomToMany replied: Oh wow! How scary that must have been! At least everything is fine; that's the main thing! Here's some (((((cyber hugs))))) to go along with our cyber ice cream....yummy!!

kit_kats_mom replied: Terri! That is so scary. I'm glad it turned out ok and nothing worse happened. It's a good way to learn a lesson. I've done it too and it really does bring home those things that really matter to you.

FYI, when DH and I were packing up important papers, pictures etc, I had him make copies of everything. We left them all at my moms along with the negatives for our photos and disks with backups of all of Katherine's and our wedding pictures. Even if you just leave something like that at a trusted neighbors & update it every few months, it is totally worth it if the worst happens.

Mmmm. I can taste the moose tracks now. That stuff is awesome....creamy, chocolatly....yummmmm tongue.gif

Kirstenmumof3 replied: grouphug.gif OMG how scary for you! When I was about 11 years old I was making french fries, I turned the grease on high and went into the living room to peel the potatos (typical 11 year old didn't want to miss my TV show)! Well the next thing I knew our house was full of black smoke and the stove was on fire! I think this is one of those things that happens to everyone! Glad to hear that you and your family are okay and I hope that you get rid of that smell soon! grouphug.gif

Jamison'smama replied: Glad everyone and everything is okay--I understand about valuable things---I also leave a disk of pictures at my parents home---the are not all there but at least all of Jamison's pictures are--I need to copy wedding photos and things like that also---anyway---give yourself a break and try not to fret too much--we all do things like this at some point.

mummy2girls replied: Oh My! That is scarey! I usually check and recheck everyday and night! I get to paraniod. Because there are some special things and picures that cant be replaced. I get very anal about that! LOL Im glad you and everyone is doing ok

aspenblue1 replied: That must have been scary. Glad everything is ok. grouphug.gif grouphug.gif

MommyToAshley replied: grouphug.gif Oh how scarey, but I am so glad it was not worse. And, don't beat yourself up. When I lived in my first apartment, the lady that lived below me did the exact same thing. I think our apartment stunk for a while, but no major harm done.

MMMMMM, yummy mouse tracks! yummy.gif

Alice replied: We all do really dumb things when we're rushed or tired or stressed or.....

No one was hurt. Nothing was destroyed. You had your moment for 2004-- it's over now and you can relax!!

Consider leaving a spare key with a neighbor. In the event that something is ever up with your house, it makes it easier for someone to investigate.

Enjoy your ice cream, and relax. Think of all those quadrillions of times you did everything right and no one noticed. This one slip up is no big deal.

lsjulee replied: grouphug.gif grouphug.gif Fortunately no major damages.

Josie83 replied: Hello, I'm sorry you had such an awful day. That would be really scary! But at least eveything an dmore importantly everyone was okay . . . that ice cream sounds really nice!! xx

ediep replied: oh ho scary!!!! I am so glad it was't worse. I did a similar thing not too long ago, but I went in the basement for half hour and forgot rice cooking. I stunk up the house and ruined the pot but no major damage!
don't beat youself up. Whats done is done. Try to relax now

Boys r us replied: ((((((HUGS)))) Oh honey!! I think we've all done that!

I've left a pan I was cooking bacon in on our stove and it got all charred and smokey like your hot dog pan..but even worse than that... one night when Rick was out of town, I was making homemade chicken nuggets for Tanner and Braedon and I couldn't get my frydaddy to work so I just put some oil in a sauce pan and
used the frydaddy basket to dip the chicken down int he grease..WELL..I was coating the chicken as I was going I put the chicken in the basket and lowered in down in the pan..and it made the oil over flow!!!!!!!!!! All over my cooktop!
My cooktop is on an island in my kitchen with a big light that hangs over the island..the flames were flying up all over the light..All I could think to do was to dump my canister of flour all over the stove since it was a grease fire! It went out! THANK GOD! But let me tell you...grease gewked flour is not the easiest thing to clean up! Luckily we have a flat surface cooktop..so there were no eyes to deal with!

DansMom replied: Almost everyone has done something like that. I know I have! I'm so glad everyone is alright. grouphug.gif

Kaitlin'smom replied: awww hon I am gald no major damage and no one was hurt. With our old stove DH would always put something in the oven or on the stove and forget it, until it was burnt, needless to say our stove now has a timer and I have show him how to use it.

coasterqueen replied: OMG! How scary! I'm glad there was no real damage and that noone got hurt. grouphug.gif

And as far as the ice cream.... YUMMY...I really wish you could pass some through the screen to me. rolling_smile.gif

kimberley replied: omg! i am glad everyone is okay. grouphug.gif

My2Beauties replied: Oh hon I am so sorry that happened. If it makes you feel any better I caught the microwave on fire when I was younger....boy do I know never to put something styrofoam in there now! LOL! rolling_smile.gif Just don't worry about it, tomorrow it'll be something you guys can look back and laugh about since no one was hurt or nothing was damaged!

booey2 replied: Thank you for all you hugs and kind responses. Today is a much better day (aside from work but I won't go there). Thanks again.
