Holding Own Bottle - how old?

Boo&BugsMom wrote: How old was yours when he/she started holding their own bottles? I can't remember for the life of me how old Tanner was. I'm trying to figure out of Aiden is just being lazy and stubborn on me or if he just hasn't mastered that skill yet or too young. How old?

A&A'smommy replied: Alyssa never did she was lazy rolleyes.gif rolleyes.gif

Boo&BugsMom replied:
Crap...that doesn't give me much hope does it? emlaugh.gif

lovemy2 replied: Dylan was about 7 months when he started but if the bottle was full it was kinda hard for him - now at almost 10 months he has it mastered - swings it around, takes it out, puts it back in you name it - he's got it down now laugh.gif

A&A'smommy replied:
laugh.gif oops sorry!! happy.gif

Boo&BugsMom replied:
Ahh, now I feel better. rolling_smile.gif There is hope somewhere. laugh.gif

MoonMama replied: Brae was about 6 1/2 months, but now he's being lazy and won't. rolling_smile.gif

ETA: But like above that wasn't a "mastered" hold, he didn't get the full hang of it until around 8-9 months.

ediep replied: Jason was about 10 months or so, I'd lay him back in his stroller and he'd drink his bottle himself, but we used those playtex bag bottles so I think he could just let it rest on his chest and he's get the milk,

Emma is 10 months and she doesn't hold the bottle at all, but we use the DR Browns

Calimama replied: 7-8 months.

wcs40110 replied: If she wasnt being lazy she could hold it by like 8 months I think...

moped replied: Oh I don't remember, but I think he is still too young to hold it personally, but I don't remember..........

Boo&BugsMom replied:
Thanks Jen. Now that I keep thinking, I want to say Tanner was about 7 months. I think I will have to go back and look at old pictures of him holding it. laugh.gif

My2Beauties replied:
I think Hanna was like 8 months or something, yeah I know he's around the same age as Aubrey and she isn't holding hers. Now we use those wide Advent bottles right now. She can hold the small ones that hold only 4 oz if they are about half full for a couple of seconds, then she drops it, but the larger ones that hold up to 9 oz, no way she tries but she can't. Once gas is no longer an issue for us, which is usually around 7-8 months old if I remember with Hanna, isn't that about when you can sort of stop burping them and they'll do it on their own (my how I forget?) but that's when I think it's ok to encourage them to hold their own bottles and they're able to. They make bottles now that are shaped so babies can hold them easier. They're pretty neat.

moped replied: Hoenstly Jennie that was my favorite time of day was getting all curled up with them and fedding them a bottle - the before bed one! I liekly held it for him for too long rolleyes.gif
What can I say, I need to be needed!

Boo&BugsMom replied:
laugh.gif You know, I am like that too...I always looked forward to just curling up with Tanner and feeding him, I always looked forward to feeding time as funny as it sounds. But Aiden squirms around so much and never sits still while he's being fed. Arg. I have resorted to sitting him on his boppy pillow and sitting next to him on the floor while feeding him. Even then he twists and turns to move around, all while he's trying to eat. wacko.gif This child is bound and determined to get around and move everywhere so it makes feeding times a bit more challenging, and well, less pleasant. laugh.gif At least he sits in my lap and chills out. We have a bench on our front porch. I will take him outside and just sit with him and he'll watch everything outside. I like those snuggles. wub.gif

My2Beauties replied:
Do we have the same kid??? Aubrey is the exact same way! laugh.gif

Boo&BugsMom replied:
I'm glad I'm not the only one. I swear, he can't just sit and enjoy his bottle. He has to be nosey and look around at anything he can see. And if there is company over...forget it! Too much action going on. sleep.gif
