Holy Moly, that was a lot of water!
luvmykids wrote: Our water bill had always seemed high, but we'd also never had one before (we had a well at our old house) so we just assumed it was because of the horses....fast forward to a year later and find out we have a leak in one of the pipes in the wall (which DH fixed himself, it's about time my contractor DH did something for ME LOL).....anyway the moral to the story is, our water bill had been in the $300's, now with the leak fixed, it was only $46 Makes me sick to think of all that water wasted!
A&A'smommy replied: WOW that is a lot of water...
btw I'm jealous of the 46dollars!!!
luvmykids replied: I'm shocked, I still expected it to be at least $100!!! I'm sure in the summer it will be since the horses drink so much less this time of year but STILL....I do A LOT of laundry
MommyToAshley replied: Wow!!! That is a lot of water! Where'd it all go?
luvmykids replied: Well, once the crawl space was full it started coming up through the laundry room floor...I thought my washing machine was leaking. After not using it for a few days waiting for the repair guy, I noticed water on my kitchen floor that was coming from my cabinets.
Called a plumber, who said it must have started out very, very tiny and gotten bigger over the course of the year. He also thought the leak was under the house, and said we'd have to tear out the floor to find it. Thank goodness (for once) that DH didn't go for that, it turned out to be in the wall behind the kitchen sink.
We're idiots though...we didn't think to turn off the main valve before DH tore the wall out. Guess what happened when the drywall that was preventing the water from shooting straight out into the kitchen got yanked off?
Suprisingly, there wasn't a whole lot of damage, considering that amount of water.
CantWait replied: WOW that's crazy. Glad it's fixed now.
So what ya gonna do with all that savings lol
Calimama replied: I'm glad it's fixed.. that's a big price difference.
Our Lil' Family replied: Wow! Just think of all the purses and shoes you can buy now!!!
MoonMama replied: WOW! That is crazy Monica! I'm glad you got it fixed and there wasn't more damage.
MommyToAshley replied: Yikes! So glad there wasn't more damage and your DH listened to his own instincts. That would have sucked if he dug up the floor and the problem wasn't even there.
Hillbilly Housewife replied: Yikes!!!!!
We don't pay for water.
Well yeah kinda I guess.. it's included in the city property taxes. If you rent, you don't pay that.. and to give you an idea, our property taxes for the new house are about 260$ a month. Including water.
luvmykids replied: No kidding, I had started getting quotes from "leak detection" companies and just to start was going to be close to $1000
