Home safely

BAC'sMom wrote: We got home safely Saturday afternoon. It did not rain here nor did we get any high winds because we were far enough south. But there was flooding here in town from the storm surge, we also had flooding in the in bays and saltflats. Our downtown area and south side had flooding in the streets 3 blocks from the Gulf. The harbor had at least one boat sunk and the beach roads were all closed and covered with debris and piers.

Thank you for all your thoughts and prayers and please continue to pray for the those that have been effected. It is going to take years to rebuilt the Galveston/Houston area.

mckayleesmom replied: Glad you and your family are safe. It will take time to rebuild your city, but things like this tend to make a city come together to help and I'm sure your city will do just that.

BAC'sMom replied: Thanks guys I appreciate all your prayers. We were very lucky compared to the Upper Texas Coast that is for sure. I lived in the Houston/ Galveston area from 1974-1988 many of my and DH’s family members still live up there. We have talked with everyone and they are all fine, they mostly just have trees down, no power or flooding in their houses. My niece came by here yesterday she was on her way back home with her 3-year-old and one month old daughters. She called last night and a tornado went through her town and she can’t get in her house because to structural damage.

The whole area has really received quit a blow. IMO Ike could not have hit at a worse spot. With all the Refineries, Port of Houston and all the Medical Centers that are out of commission there we be a lot of people in need and or out of work for a while. Galveston has the Shriner’s Burn Unit and many other Special Needs Hospitals. Galveston is a lot like New Orleans when it comes to Historic buildings and structures. I read this morning that over 1500 Historic buildings have been damaged or destroyed. Port Bolivar which is to the north of Galveston has pretty much been wiped off the map. Please continue to pray for all these people please.

MommyToAshley replied: hug.gif I'm glad you are ok.

My prayers continue to go to those in the area hit by IKE. We only got the winds, and only tropical storm winds, I can't imagine the kind of devastation that they are dealing with.

Kirstenmumof3 replied: hug.gif I'm glad to hear that you are okay and sorry to hear about the rest of the city. Hopefully things will start rebuilding quickly.
