How big is baby ??

Mommy2Isabella wrote: Does anyone know how much weight the baby should gain from this point on?

What about the average weight at 18 weeks. I am a little concerned, I have MAJOR trouble gaining weight, and I just wanted to know how much HE should weigh?

Thanks guys!

moped replied: Well at my US at 20 weeks the baby was 1 pound I think - which they said is kind of big, but not huge, so I am guessing 3/4 - 1 pound

PrairieMom replied: I don't really know, it seems to me that the babys that are born around 24 weeks gestation at my hospital are right around a pound or so. I don't work in the neonatal ICU tho, so I don't really remember very well.

Even if you dont gain weight, the baby will. He will take what he needs from your system. Of course, if you gain NO weight at all, he could potentially have problems, but what is more likely is that YOU will have problems.

Why are you having trouble gaining weight? What are you eating?

Mommy2Isabella replied: I am eat a lot of fruits and steamed veggies. Not a big meat eater ...

Its not what Im eating, I just have trouble gaining weight, have a tyroid issue which prevents me from gaining weight ... I think about loosing 5lbs and I have lost it type thing.

The dr.'s are very much on me about weight gain. Since we lost the twin I have lost 7lbs, they said it is normal to loose some weight. Just want to make sure that my baby is on track from how much he should weigh!

Thanks

coasterqueen replied: What did your doctor say? I mean, you mentioned on numerous occasions before losing the twin that you were gaining weight, that your belly was huge, etc - so does this have to do with losing the twin or just trouble gaining weight? I guess I'm confused on why you didn't have trouble to begin with, but are now. huh.gif

Mommy2Isabella replied: I had a little troubel in the begining, but then started gaining!

They said it was normal to loose weight when loosing the twin. I just want to know for my own sake what the baby should weigh. The dr. hasn't mentioned anything about, I go back and I just was wondering what the baby should weigh at this point and if our little guy was on schedule!

Calimama replied:
I remember saying you gained weight with Bella.. are you doing anything different with this baby? huh.gif

Cece00 replied: you need to try to eat meat. protein is important for a baby. chicken, fish, seafood, steak, hamburgers, pork loin, pork chops...whatever. there are a ton of different types of meat and you need to eat some at least 1-2 times a day and at least a full serving each time.

also things like full fat ice cream, milk, sour cream, cheese, etc are good if you are having trouble gaining weight. avocado (guacamole) too. milk shakes...

it needs to be good foods, not just empty calories.

Mommy2Isabella replied: Ok I want to clarify...

I was gaining weight FINE before the loss of the twin, I have lost about 7lbs since loosing the tiwn. Im not worrid as much about ME as I am the little guy. I do eat meat, just not TONS OF IT. I get protein from sources other than meat. But on occasions I do eat meat mainly chicken and I force myself to eat a steak every month.

I did gain weight when preg. with Bella but not at all in the first trimester, I gained most of my weight with her in the third trimester. But that isn't what I was CURIOUS about. I was just wondering how much the baby should weigh. I know the baby will take what it needs and thrive even if I am not gaining weight. My dr. hasn't said anything about it. At my last appt. I had gained weight just fine. I was just wondering what the average baby should weight at this point, as well I guess what a PG, mother should have gained < though this isn't my concern.

I am more CURIOUS than I am WORRIED about it. I was "concerned" just because of me loosing 7lbs thats a lot of poundage.

Sorry if I confused anyone! Just wanted to clear that up, I know that I need to eat healthy and I do.
Thanks guys

moped replied: I am pretty sure that the baby is around 1 pound now......

As far as weight gain for the mother I don't know - I am going to guess about 10-15 maybe, but that is a total guess.

Cece00 replied:
You should try higher fat fish, and there are tons of ways to eat ground meat.

Anyway- I dont think losing 7 lbs is a huge deal, at this point. I lost 25 lbs with my oldest, and probably about 10 lbs with every other kid, if not more. Is this the old Dr or new Dr who hasnt said anything yet? How many weeks are you- I cant tell from your sig. How quickly did you lose 7 lbs?

You just really need to focus on eating healthy to gain weight. Even though the baby will take from you, its still important. Try nuts, too, as a snack or in foods- they are higher in healthy fat & have protein. And eggs.

Here you go

PS- If you hadnt noticed, I DID give you a link to a page that gives averages for gestational baby weight- you didnt say anything about it, not sure if you saw it.

Calimama replied:
Ohh! I gotcha! Sorry... I was totally confused. Story of my life. emlaugh.gif

Mommy2Isabella replied: The New Dr. hasn't said anything, the Old Dr. hasn't said anything yet! I lost the 7lbs in about a week time frame.

Thanks for the tips on foods to eat. I don't eat fish though, LOL i hate seafood. I dont want anyone to think Im starving myself, I just ate half of a veggie pizza smile.gif ...

I go to the new dr. in october, I see the old dr. one more time which is next thursday.

I did see the link you posted and by the numbers my little man is big! LOL At 18weeks he weighed 10oz.

THANKS

ETA: I am 21 weeks today I am pretty sure!

moped replied: Well at my 18 week ultrasound she was one pound.........so 10oz seems very normal to me! Not overly huge!

Mommy2Isabella replied: lol the link she posted said the baby at 18 weeks is 6. oz and some change ... so 10 oz would be big and 1lb would be HUGE ... lol

I was trying find other sites that had that info but couldn't come across any ...

moped replied: Oh dear - we got trouble then!!!!

natersmommy replied: i weighed 95 pounds before i got prego. and only got up 130 pounds (i hardly gain weight too)... the doc. thought she was going to be 5.5 pounds when she was born but she ended up weighing 6.6... they are not always accurate with weighing the baby with measurements- you won't really know if your babies weight until after its born...you would know if your baby isn't right.... the doc. would probably talk to you about it...my belllie was tiny!!!!! very tiny but my baby filled it up!!! yours will too!!! biggrin.gif

natersmommy replied: it's not always healthy to eat sea food when you are pregnant anyhow- it's possibly high in mercury which isn't healthy for the baby....have you spoken with your doctor about the weight?
