How cheap are you?
amynicole21 wrote: Ok, admit it... how thrifty are you? Do you do anything really embarassingly cheap? We've been washing plastic utensils lately
ammommy replied: Unfortunately, I'm the opposite I blow money, but I really, really try not to.
Actually, that's not true. If I'm shopping at a discount store like Target or KMart (really try not to give walmart my $$) I won't buy anything unless it's on sale. Anywhere else, I'll not care about the price. makes no sense, I know.
AshleyRose replied: I am pretty cheap. I put off buying crap we need because I am always sure there is a better deal but maybe at a different time. That is why we have the bare necessities in this house.. it is faaaar from being "homey". But this is just a rental until we move to Dallas.
I am really cheap about clothes and stuff... I never thought I would be cheap either but I always know that there is better stuff to blow your money on, you know?
amynicole21 replied: OK, I have another one... DH bought really cheap ground beef the other day. I'm cooking it now for spaghetti, and I poured out the grease into an empty cat food can - it overflowed If there's one thing you shouldn't cheap out on, it's meat! Oh, and toilet paper
AshleyRose replied: I agree.. beef and TP for sure make a difference...
There are a bunch of other things that from experience I am not cheap with... but I am too overflowed with trying to remember what to pack tomorrow to think of them all lol
Summer replied: I'm not but dh is exteremly cheap which forces me to be or he'll be all over my case
luvbug00 replied: We wash out plastic untencils too!! I'm not alone! thank god!! We love the zoo pals for kids they wash well and we use them over and over again!
Josie83 replied: Um not really I don't think. Does keeping washing up bottles and stuff for Cassie to make things out of count? xx
gr33n3y3z replied: I'm not cheap But I like sales
mckayleesmom replied: Im cheap...I always buy stuff on sale....and if I like something that is not on sale...I will save up for it,,,then when I go to get it...I decide not to buy it because I could use the money on more things on sale...LOL
The only thing Im not cheep about is Pepsi....has to be name brand. Unfortunately...I am quiting my habbit.
mommyangie replied: I like good deals but I'm not really cheap. I do spend too much. I like to shop on Ebay for our youngest child and I tend to overbuy for her each season. I also try to buy a lot from local church clothing sales and I buy my clothes at the Goodwill from time to time. But it's not because I can't afford to go buy it full price at the mall. I just like the feeling of buying used and saving money.
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: I like to buy on sale and I shop at stores like Target and Ross...but I don't consider myself cheap. Cheap to me is going out to dinner with friends and they ask you to pay for your $1.50 soda that accidently made it on their bill. Or just splitting checks is cheap to me. I don't expect my friends to pay for me, but we pay for our friends sometimes, the least they could do is pickup a soda for me!! DH is cheap when it comes to buying things for our house like new drapes or furniture. But he is not cheap when it comes to food (that's for sure) and toys like computers, cars, cell phones. I'm somewhere in the middle!
kimberley replied: CHEAPO here!!!
lol i buy second hand clothes, use coupons, use "store money", read flyers and stock up on stuff on sale, i freecycle, i reuse baggies and some plastic containers and cutlery, trade with friends... gosh, there is probably more but i can't think of it all
oh ya.. i reuse bounce sheets in more than one load.. then use them to keep the diaper pail and drawers smelling fresh
kit_kats_mom replied: I am not really cheap but I do buy cheap stuff sometimes. In my case, time is money and frankly, if I have to shop around well...lets just say I"d have to save about $20 a shot or else I could have been working and making money instead. So I basically buy everything at Super target. Their clothes are cheap but lots of other stuff isn't.
redchief replied: I'm not cheap... I'm frugal
And I hate shopping.
coasterqueen replied: I'm unfortunately not cheap, not cheap enough. I really need to be this way. I try so hard, but don't.
3_call_me_mama replied: I can be cheap.. but it all depends on the time I have. When it comes to my kids clothes i am not cheap but i am wise. I will only shop at places liek Osh Kosh, Gap, Old Navy (sometimes Kohls- but they are actually quite expensive if it's not onsale) and a couple boutiques near us. BUT I only buy from those places if they are on sale.. I went to osh kosh one day with a girl friend and I spent $ 128 on the kids for summer clothes. But I saved $516! SO it was good deal. We don't rewash plastic silverware usually except the zoo pal ones. I buy mostly name brand ingrocery store but i use coupons and some things i just get generic. But i am not one to make a friend pay for their soda that might be on my check. We we eat out with friends, we either do separate checks if they want them or we jsut split the bill right in half. Quite frankly I don't have extra $$ to be taking my friends out to dinner and footing the bill. Sometime I do treat, but I don't consider it cheap if I don't. I do also buy things off ebay and such, but generally it is NWT stuff or clothes that i intend to be for play clothes etc (that i'm not too worried about riuining) btu with all that said.... I love Target (although there isn't one near us) and Wal Mart adn Kmart (just wish it were cleaner)
mom2tripp replied: NO way!!! I wish I were more cheap like my husband
JAYMESMOM replied: My husbands says I can strech a dollar. Not to mean my family is without by no means but I have a knack for sales. I shop around for the best price when we need something. We eat leftovers and most of the kids clothese are second hand unless it is absolutely needed and then I find it on sale.
Jayme wears a lot of name brands but I didn't spend the outrageous fortune for them. We have "Mom2Mom" sales in Michigan and that is where most of the kids clothes come from. I buy all my clothes on sale and won't pay full price for anything.
All the outside toys in our backyard and Little Tikes big toys in the hosue were either free or bought really cheap at a garage sale. I don't see the purpose of paying full price if I can get one in decent shape for cheap.
I wash plastic utensils and make the kids re-use plastic cups.
BUT then there are things I will splurge on like Good Perfume and Makeup.
and the kids do get their Happy Meals!!
MissyKay2005 replied: Cheap here! We are reuseing towles and clothes if can casue we have to use laundry mat. And we also reuse our paper plates if it was just used for a sandwich and not something messy....lol.
ediep replied: I am pretty cheap when it comes to myself. If there is something that I really want, I have to think about for a few weeks, check flyers, check ebay, talk to my husband.... the I MAY or MAY NOT buy it.
I really want to buy one of those rolling suitcase scrapbook organizer things...but they are so expensive and I'm too cheap
Gammy2 replied: OK i am also cheap on somethings. Like the disposable sippy cups and spoons. I wash them and reuse. I will reuse a baggie and i also use a dryer sheet twice sometimes. BTW - dryer sheets are great to get cooked/stuck food out of pans. Just put 1 in the pan with water and the food falls right off.
kimberley replied: someone posted a thread here a while ago about all the great things you can use dryer sheets for lol... i thought it was awesome... i am gonna go look for it
SOUTHERN MOMMY replied: I reuse everything that i can because i hate to go buy it or never know when it will go on sale again but,i will not buy off brand soap, shampoo, makeup, laundry soap,or some food products like meats, drinks, milk, bread,or ice cream.anything else i buy off brand or at a big sale.
Boys r us replied: I'm a spend freak..I love to spend money! But sense Rick lost his job, I've actually been very proud of my attempts to save money! I've actually made a menu and done all of my shopping for 2 weeks at one time which has lessened the grocery bill by a couple of hundred bucks!
But I'll be really honest, I can't wait to go back to spending money at will!
3_call_me_mama replied: you crack me up!
I love to spend too, but can't right now.. but I remember being able to go shoppign for a ME day and dropping 1/4 or more of my paycheck on myself (pre hubby adn kids:)) But now I splurge when i can and try to save when possible.... especially on things like grocerys cause you're just gonna eat them!
maestra replied: We have a time of use plan for our electricity, so you pay more for electricity used during a certain time period. During the summer months, it is 1-8pm. That is really the hottest part of the day, and the time when people use the most power.
So during that time, I make everyone turn all the lights off, won't wash clothes or use the dishwasher, and even try to shut the computer down. If I'm really good, I save about $20-30 a month.
That's how cheap I am!
Maddie&EthansMom replied: That is SMART!! Not cheap.
maestra replied: Thank you But you should see all the appliances come back on at 8:01! Everything all at once!
