How do you buy a gift for your child - when they are with you
moped wrote: UGH - I have to take both kids out and I was hoping to find a little something for easter for Jack - but how do you buy it when they are with you??? I try to hide it in the cart, but he ALWAYS sees it.........
Then I try saying it is for someone else
But this is from the Easter Bunny.........
MommyToAshley replied: I used to be able to do it with Ashley as I'd just keep her distracted -- busy talking and singing. But, there is no way I could do it now, she'd see and remember for sure.
moped replied: I know!!! I guess I will have to try to be very sneaky or find something small - not a huge item!
Kaitlin'smom replied: Kaitlin is to old for me to even try that anymore, so I have to go alone. The only other way I ever got away with it is if I bought it a few weeks ahead and if she saw it I woudl say it was for someone else and she usually forgot by the time she got one herself. This close to easter no way could I pull that off.
guess I am no help...huh
coasterqueen replied: I'm still able to do it with both girls, but only when DH is with me. If I had to do it alone, which I have, I'd probably take a cloth bag (reusable shopping bag) and put the items in there and just hang onto them.?.
Calimama replied: Miabella is JUST starting to realize when I put something like that in the cart. But then she forgets about it.
sparkys2boys replied: I dunno, I wouldn't risk it. Can't you go alone sometime before easter??
Maddie&EthansMom replied: Oooooh! I like Karen's suggestion. I never thought of that.
But, I haven't been able to do this in a long time. Just yesterday I tried to do it while we were all at Sam's. Even Scotty was with me. The kids still saw. Hopefully they will forget.
coasterqueen replied: When Ryan's with me he walks with the girls in front of me or takes them in a seperate cart in front of me. Then I can put "secret" stuff in my cart and put my coat over it. Then when it's time to check out, Dh takes the girls to the car.
If I was alone and hade to do it I just hand the bag to the person and tell them it's stuff I don't want the girls to see and they'd hopefully scan it while it's in the bag.
luvmykids replied: I couldn't get away with it, period
My2Beauties replied: I'm laughing because I would never get away with this. LOL!
Teesa®© replied: When my oldest was a toddler, I was single and had to buy all his presents with him with me. It was tough!!
I remember one time, we'd just moved here in Cambridge and I had to get him bday presents. I got a lot of stuff, but he did see the car mat that I'd gotten. He kept asking and asking about it all the way home [we were walking]. I kept putting it off and being vague. When we got home, I hurried and hid that bag and told him I must have dropped it on the way home and didn't notice. Well, I was NOT expecting him to want to go LOOK for it!!! We had to walk all the way back to the mall - 1/2 walk - and home again. Needless to say, we didn't 'find' it. He was heartbroken
But the look on his face when he did get it was priceless!!
emiliosmom replied: I think I will be okay until my little man weans, when he is in a cart all he ever does is ask to nurse, whether he is hungry or not. I guess seeing my boobs right at eye level is all he needs to be distracted from the toys in the cart.
It's embarrasing though as he screams " Booob" over and over.
MoonMama replied: Thankfully I can still get away with it with Brae....or at least I pretend I can. But he usually forgets about it by the time we get home.
Can DH watch them for a few so you can go do that?
BAC'sMom replied: I leave them home with Dad or with Grandma. Then I shop all I want
AlexsPajamaMama replied: I did alexs christmas shopping while he was with us but daddy kept him busy. Maybe bring a small pad of paper and pen for him to draw/write, if that will amuse him enough to put things in the cart.
