How do you fall asleep
My2Beauties wrote: I find myself normally taking forever to fall asleep, my DH can fall asleep in like 2 seconds flat. The minute his head hits the pillow he is snoring I really wish I could do that. I've found that if I conciously make an effort to not think about everything while laying there I can get to sleep much faster, but I still cannot just fall straight to sleep..EVER!!
luvmykids replied: It depends, most nights for the last month or two I'm out as soon as I hit the pillow. But when I have a lot on my mind or I'm stressed I can't sleep no matter what I do.
I don't know if it would help you or not, but I've heard that writing down what's on your mind (what you have to do tomorrow, etc) is supposed to help clear your head so you can sleep better.
Insanemomof3 replied: I have been having trouble falling asleep lately. Even if i am totally exhausted (which is most of the time lately.)
TheOaf66 replied: loads of alchohol and sleeping pills
just kidding
~Roo'sMama~ replied: Sometimes I can fall asleep pretty quickly, and sometimes I can't get my brain to shut off and I lie there thinking about what happened that day, or what I have to do the next day, or just dumb random things. I used to have that problem every night though - it would always take me at least an hour to fall asleep. Having kids and being tired all of the time fixed that problem for me.
lisar replied: I do have insomnia and it sucks. Alot of people in my family have it. I have diffrent things that I will do to fall asleep. Concentrate on my breathing in, out, in, out. And if I lay there for 1hr then I will turn the tv on and watch the most boring show ever or I will lay there and picture nothing but a black wall. I have tried diffrent relaxing cd's and those didnt work for me. I am used to it. I have had it for a long time.
CantWait replied: PRACTICALLY?? I DO have Insomnia most nights so I rarely get to sleep before 5 in the morning. I've become so accustomed to it that I can function perfectly most days on next to no sleep for weeks on end.
lovemy2 replied: I generally read before I go to sleep - it makes me turn off the day and concentrate on something else - then I get drowsy - close the book and turn off the light - I also take 1 tylenol pm every nite - per my MD - it helps me sleep through the nite but doesn't make me so dead asleep I don't hear my kids....if I don't take it I wake sometime during the nite and then can't go back to sleep for 2-3 hours....
A&A'smommy replied: usually I have a HARD time getting to sleep but this pregnancy is already starting to take it out of me so it has been a little easier.
luvmykids replied: You can try melatonin too....you can find it anywhere, grocery store, walmart, etc...I take half of one when I need to. It gently sends me nodding off but nothing like a sleeping pill; I'm not groggy in the am and still wake up if the kids do, etc.
kit_kats_mom replied: I usually read some lame book for about a half hour before I fall asleep. Otherwise, I'll focus on things I need to do and I'll never fall asleep. I can't read anything really good before bed though or else I'll stay up all night reading. Right now, I'm reading some chick lit called Emily Ever After about a young girl moving to NYC and finding herself. Not really that great but interesting enough so I'll keep with it.
BabyOwen427 replied: one eye at a time
AlexsPajamaMama replied: I usually read
Kaitlin'smom replied: other, it depends if I am tired and go right to bed with my ocean on then I am out pretty fast but if I turn on the TV I stay awaje for a while.
if I am not that tired I will trun on the tv to some comedy to relax me so I can fall asleep.
bawoodsmall replied: I remember when I had insomnia for 3 years when I was younger. Not fun. You do learn to deal though on no sleep. Jacob and I generally talk for a bit and he keeps telling me to scratch his back and I keep telling him to shut up so I can go to sleep. I love my hubby. Such a brat.
Anthony275 replied: get in bed at 1, watch tv for an hour then go to bed. i have sleep timer on tho
gr33n3y3z replied: I watch T.V with the lights out then I fall asleep
danahas4monkeys replied: I voted other because I dont sleep and if I do its definitely not quality sleep! I have terrible insomnia and if I dont take my sleeping pill I dont sleep! I just lay there for hours no matter how tired I am. I was averaging 2 maybe 3 hours of sleep on a good night and sometimes I'd go 2 or 3 days and have an hour combined! My doctor and I have tried everything so I could .
Calimama replied: I usually fall asleep pretty quickly unless I'm worried about something.
MoonMama replied: Depends what's going on and how tired I am. If I'm worried or stressed over something a LONG time.
Brias3 replied: It takes me forever to fall asleep too. What I usually absolutely HAVE to do is have the TV on. I typically set the sleep timer on it. DH has gotten used to this over the years and luckily, can now fall asleep to the television on too. I don't know what it is about having the light or sound from it, it just helps me sleep.
In fact, if I had my way, I would go to bed every night with the light and TV on. I just sleep better with light and noise around- weird, huh?
mammag replied: If I have a lot on my mind I will lay there forever (last night until 3 in the morning). If all is well in my world I can sleep right away.
My3LilMonkeys replied: It used to take me hours to go to sleep.....now my days are so packed I am exhausted by bedtime! I put on the tv and listen to it and I'm usually out within a half hour.
Sam & Abby's Mom replied: Before I had kids, I would fall asleep as soon as my head hit the pillow. My husband used to be soooooooooooooo jealous of me. Now, its the other way around. Since having kids - I cant seem to shut my mind off at night. It takes me awhile to fall asleep - I have to keep reminding myself to stop thinking. LOL
I feel for you guys that have insomnia, though. Sleep deprivation makes me feel like I'm going crazy.
Hillbilly Housewife replied: I haven't slept all friggin week!!
Usually takes me about 15 - 20 minutes to fall asleep... sometimes I fall asleep as soon as I hit the pillow though.
mom2patrick&jalin replied: Okay I voted other and so now I must explain. I can fall asleep right away but only if DH is in the bed beside me. If he is gone I cannot sleep at all. I am so glad he is not gone anymore. He used to work for a grocery store where he had to travel to open new stores, where he is now he does not have to anymore. On top of that he has been off work for a year because of illness so he is always here now.
Brias3 replied: That's part of my problem too. I can't get "good" sleep when DH is away, which unfortunately is still alot of the time. I sleep the soundest when he is next to me.
MomToJade&Jordan replied: Oh I have insomnia. I'll stay up until I'm really tired and I still lay there trying to go to sleep. I'm hoping that my gym membership will help me in the sleep department.
NaturalMom replied: i fall asleep as soon as i hit the pillow. it has its ups and downs. If im trying to sleep its great. but if im waiting for Randy to come to bed for some fun, it sux cuz i crash before he gets there. LOL
