Dear Parents,

Effective May 1st my fee will be increasing $5 per day to $125 per week.

I hope that this will not be a hardship for anyone. As you know, I have not increased my fees in three years. As in any career, you expect to get a raise periodically. Although I don’t ask for a yearly raise, it is necessary, on occasion, to increase my fees to offset the increase in expenses.

I feel that this price is still very competitive as most daycare providers ask to be paid even when the child is not in their care. As with our previous arrangement, you are still entitled to deduct for days when your child is not in my care. I hope you feel this small increase is more than paid for in the quality care I give your child. I truly enjoy having your child in my home each day. If you have any concerns please feel free to address them with me.

texasp3 replied: Short, sweet, to the point, well written, well supported! Can't think of a thing I would change... which is saying a lot since I'm an obsessive re-writer. As a Mom who has been through many in-home and center-based daycare arrangements, I would say that I would have a positive reaction to the letter, even if the extra money was going to be an issue for me.

I'm sure she won't like it and if she decides to find someone else that's fine. I doubt she would though because I am very leaniant on times and days off and what not. I've also only taken off maybe 2 times because I was sick in the last 2+ years so I think I have a good record. She also lives right across the street so I think she likes just walking across the street to bring her..... Good grief! I'm still trying to convince myself that I'm not being mean by increasing.....I'm pathetic!

The going rate is 100 for 18 months and older and 150- 18 months and younger.

What is the going rate around you. I'm in the Kansas City area.

mammag replied: I called around and it's about 125 but most made you pay even if they don't have them and even take 2 wks paid vacation. Many don't take them when they are even slightly sick.
