How hot is to hot?

PrairieMom wrote: Benjamin has been fighting something off all week. He started with a 104 temp monday, and it has hung around all week. Motrin and tylenol has been keeping him cool, but only down to like 100. This week we have missed 2 swimming lessons, and the tumble bus.
DH wanted to take him camping tonight, with a friend and his 4 yo daughter, but benjamin's temp is 100 right now. Should I keep him home? I really want him to go, he will be so disappointed if he can't, and he is acting totally fine. YOu wouldn't even know the kid had a temp if I wasn't chasing him around with the thermometer all day. rolleyes.gif
I took him to the Dr yesterday and they said his throat and ears looked fine. He isn't snotty or anything.

lisar replied: You know more about medical stuff than I do. I say use your best judgement you know your child more than I do.

indywndy_04 replied: If you have a fever though, aren't you contagious? I would hate for the other kiddo to get sick...

Your mommy, you know best how he acts when he is really sick...he might be getting over it...

PrairieMom replied:
I don't know if he is contagious or not. He has been kissing on Al all week, and she seems to be fine. dunno.gif The Dr said to look for a rash, by the time the rash comes they usually aren't contagious anymore, but he doesn't seem to be getting rashy, we never really do. dry.gif

I just really really really want him to go. I think this is one of those times where it is hard to be a responsible mommy. bawling.gif

Hillbilly Housewife replied: Tara, there is a scarlet fever outbreak in my area right now. I know we're far away from each other.... but have you thought of the possibility?

PrairieMom replied:
he doesn't seem to have any of the symptoms. No rash, no weird look tongue, he has mentioned that his throat was a bit sore, but I think thats only to get medicine.
he definitely doesn't have fatigue, I don't think he has a headache, so I don't think so.
The Dr seemed to think it was something along the lines of hand-foot-and mouth, even tho he has no blistering, and no rash, and he is a bit old for it. wacko.gif
The Dr's words were, "well, if he looks THIS happy, he can't be too sick!" dry.gif Good grief. He NEVER acts sick.

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: 100 is low-grade to me and really isn't anything to worry about. But being up late while camping, being outside, and being around other kids...I'm not sure. Your call of course. I know the feeling of really wanting your kiddo to not miss out, but on the otherhand, if he gets more sick, he will miss out even more down the road. What about making it up to him by creating a camp-out in the backyard? This way he isn't around others.

lovemy2 replied: How far away is he going? As long as he isn't too far away from home just in case I would let him go - maybe the fresh air would be good for him....

redplaydoh replied: We talked with our pediatrician here about occasional fevers without symptoms. He said he's known a few children that run a low-grade fever when they are going through a growth spurt, just as babies do with teething. I'd never heard of it before and thought it was a bit looney until I've heard a few other mothers here talk about growing fever. And we've noticed a few times that Lucas has done the exact same thing, had a bit of fever for a few days and bingo his pants aren't as long. I'm still not 100% convinced... but I guess it is possible.

PrairieMom replied:
blink.gif Huh. He has been complaining of pain in his legs the past few nights, so bad it woke him up crying. Thursday, sunday and wednsday nights. I think they were growing pains, I wonder if that is what is happening. unsure.gif

Mommy2Isabella replied: Ahh, if it were me, he would go. I would risk it. If ally isn't sick, the other girl probably won't get sick.

Your Call!!

PrairieMom replied: Well, I guess I got the answer to my question. dry.gif His temp went up to 102.4. He's staying home. sad.gif Oh well. I just wish he would get over what ever this is. Its annoying. rolleyes.gif

Mommy2Isabella replied: That stinks sad.gif I hope that his temp goes down and he can get back to fun activity's soon!

gr33n3y3z replied: awww that sucks sad.gif

maybe its a huge growth spurt LOL
I hope he feels better soon

A&A'smommy replied: Oh no thats no fun at all!!!!! i use to get fevers all the time from the time I was a baby until I was about 16 years old.. seriously if I got too tired I would get a fever.. if I was growing, teething... anything at alll I would get a fever. I'm SOO glad I outgrew that wacko.gif poor momma I hope it goes away QUICKLY!!!

luvmykids replied: Aw, poor Ben hug.gif I hate, hate, hate when they miss something because they're sick. All three of mine got sick at MIL's this week (and not all at once either rolleyes.gif ) and I felt so bad they couldn't do some of the stuff they'd planned. I hope whatever it is goes away SOON! hug.gif

HuskerMom replied: Oh that's too bad. hug.gif Hope he feels better soon!

Calimama replied: Poor guy!! I hope he's feeling better soon.
