How long should you let a baby sleep???

ashtonsmama wrote: I've been having a hard time with this, because Ashton seems to sleep ALL THE TIME! I've been putting him down to bed around 8 or 9, and he sleeps until (well, after waking up a few times at night to nurse) about 7:30 or 8 in the mornings...then I feed him, get us dressed, etc. and then put him down for his 1st nap around 11 usually...sometimes at 10 if he's tired. But my issue is with how long to let him sleep for-I usually get him up around 1 PM if he's still sleeping, which he usually is, he could sleep all day it seems.
How much sleep do babies at 2 months technically need? Because he naps a lot-which is fine with me, I get alot more done and he's more rested, and he still goes to be pretty easily so I'm not having any major issues with that end of it...but I'm just wondering-how long and how many naps a day should he be getting?

It's pretty obvious probably, but since I'm a new mom, I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask!

Thanks ladies...

*Sorry if this is a stupid question!*

~*Just Me*~ replied: I would be waking him up every couple of hours to feed. He's still real little.

ilovemybaby replied: Well it sounds like he is waking up say every two or three hours at night to feed?
I wouldn't worry about his daytime naps too much. He will let you know if he is hungry. And the sleep won't hurt him. Abby used to sleep a lot when she was that age too. She still sleeps about 9 hours at night and 2-4 hours during the day. And she is nearly two!

ashtonsmama replied: Okay, that makes me feel better...I'm not too off here!

Thank you!
And yes, he's still waking up about every 4 at night to feed...and I do try to wake him up every 2 during the day...so sounds like we're pretty much on track here!

Momof3inMe replied: I use to make the morning nap less then the afternoon. I always wanted a happy baby at night. Also at that age my kids always took a late afternoon nap like 4ish just for about 30 min to refresh themselfs

luvmykids replied: Mine all napped from 10-12 in the morning and 2-4 in the afternoon, and slept from 7p-7a.

My3LilMonkeys replied: JMO - at that age - let him sleep when he wants to. He'll wake up when he's hungry. He's a little young for a rigid schedule.

holley79 replied: Annika is 3 months now. I wish she would get back into her long naps during the day because I am EXHAUSTED. She takes little cat naps then wants to play the rest of the time. snooze.gif

kimberley replied:
i totally agree!

blue72 replied: Little babies sleep alot. I would not wake a 2 month old. My babies always slept better in the day when they were very young.

PrairieMom replied:
thats about what we did.

Hillbilly Housewife replied: That young... let him sleep. He needs it. He's growing. Naomie is 5 months old - and still sleeps a HUGE part of the day. Except she'll sleep like 20 minutes - wake up to nurse... sleep another 20 minutes... be up to play for like 10 minutes, then nurse back to sleep... then sleep 20 minutes...

it gets annoying, cuz as soon as I put her down, she wakes up. Enjoy the breaks....they won't last long. wink.gif

Babies are "programmed" to eat when hungry - so don't worry - your baby will let you know when it's feeding time. hug.gif

mckayleesmom replied: My babies always slept alot too.....ENJOY IT WHILE IT LASTS rolling_smile.gif
