How many hours of sleep - for your child
moped wrote: Ya know, Jack is driving me nuts waking up way too early in the morning......he has always gone to bed at 7 and will play in his bed FOREVER, then he is awake at 6 so instead of 12 hours of sleep he is only getting 9 - I can't take it.
How many hours does your child sleep and how did you get them to sleep in a wee bit in the morning?
lovemy2 replied: Olivia goes to bed about 8:30 - 9:00 on a school nite and gets woken up at about 6:30-6:45 depending on the day....non school nite she is in bed no later than 10:00 but often I try to keep it at 9:00 to keep her routine but if she isn't woken up for school, etc. she easily sleeps until 8:00 - 8:30...occassionally 9:00....
She is one of those kids who never fit the textbook when they say keeping them up later does not mean they will sleep later in the am....she ALWAYS sleeps later in the am if she is up later at nite.....
Try putting him to bed later when he is really ready to go to sleep.....
stella6979 replied: Avery goes to bed around 7:30 and usually wakes up sometime during the night around 3:30, but she "officially" gets up for the day between 6:00-7:00.
moped replied: I tried that but then instead of playing around til 8:30 or 9 he played around until 10 or so.............
lovemy2 replied: Is he playing with toys? Take them out of his room and tell him he can read quietly or listen to music quietly or something like that.....or maybe put him in bed and leave the light on - or a smaller light so it isn't totally bright in his room and tell him he has 15 minutes and then its lights out...
moped replied: Never has toys in his room, in fact he doesn't ever leave his bed - just talks and sings and kicks the wall etc
luvbug00 replied: mya's a bit older. she goes to bed at 8 now and gets up at 7:15. like clockwork.
at that age she was like jack and i just let her be and she eventually slipped into her own schdual. then again i didn't have a baby on the way so the need to rush the schdual wan't so dire. good luck!
lovemy2 replied: BOYS .....is this what I have to look forward to?
moped replied: He has always had a tight schedule but the last 6 months he has been falling alseep too late and waking too early.............but I still make him stick to the schedule
mummy2girls replied: jenna usually goes to bed at 730 on school nights and sleeps till 630-700. On weekends she goes to bed at 830-900pm and wakes up at 730am. so almost 11 hours. If she does have a morning where she is up really early i tell her she has to go backt o bed for a bit because its waaaay too early. and she usually will either go back to sleep or she will lay in her bed and read books and will let me sleep an extra hour. Sometimes letting her crawl into bed with me she will sleep a bit more:)
lisar replied: Lexi goes to bed at 8pm and is up at 7:15 for school on the weekends she will get up around 8 or 9 but she doesnt really have a bedtime then.
Raygen goes to bed at 7pm and wake up right at 7am. I wish she would learn to sleep in. And if I keep her up later on the weekends she still wakes up at 7am. It never fails.
Mommy2BAK replied: Blakely's bed time is 8 but she usually lays in bed and watches a movie until about 9 or 9:30, then she is waking up about 9 AM. It seems to work pretty well
coasterqueen replied: Kylie has always been difficult and Megan is so-so.
Kylie is a night-owl and a morning person. She would stay up til 3 am if you let her. Right now our goal is to have them in bed by 7:30/8 pm. If they get to bed by 7:30 pm we do story time then they watch a movie. If not til 8 then just movie. When the movie is over with it's lights out, which is usually 9 pm. During movie time they both get up 1/2 a dozen times for various reasons driving me . I have to force Kylie to go to sleep when her movie is over. Megan on the other hand, 75% of the time, will go to sleep before the movie is over with (8:30, maybe).
Megan is up anywhere between 5:45 and 6:30 am. Kylie is up anywhere between 6:00 and 6:45 am.
No matter what we've done to change things, it's not worked. Ideally I'd like them in bed by 7:30 and asleep by 8:30 and then up at 6:30. On weekends I don't care how late they stay up, I just want them to let me sleep til 7 or 8 am. NEVER happens. Kylie will stay up til 11 or midnight and she's still up around 6 am.
Sorry, I have no advice, but I do feel your pain.
Calimama replied: Bella goes to bed at 10pm and is up for the day at 9am. She naps twice during the day and if she doesn't get those naps....
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: Wil goes to bed pretty late, like somewhere between 8 and 9pm. And he gets up around 6ish. Doesn't really nap anymore either. I choose my battles at this point. It drives me nuts too, since he is often cranky and I want time alone with DH at night, but again, I'm still just trying to make things work with two kiddos so I don't push it with him. I think toddlers are just excited to explore the world right now, so they want as much awake time as possible.
stella6979 replied: Oh, how I wish that every kid was like my nephew Owen, when it comes to sleeping. He's 2-1/2 and when he's ready for bed he'll just come straight out and tell you, and it's always before 8:00. And he'll usually sleep through the night til at least 8:00 the next morning.
Our Lil' Family replied: I'm right there with you Jen! Our schedule is always the same too. Thomas goes to bed at 8:00, never gives me any trouble about it and I'm pretty sure he falls asleep pretty fast, most nights. But he is up every morning at 6:00!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't have to get up to go to work so that is EARLY for us! I cannot get that boy to sleep any later....6:30 is late for him and very rare.
If you figure it out let me know, please! I'd kiss his feet if he let me sleep till 7:00 again!
Kaitlin'smom replied: Kaitlins goal bed time is 8p, but in reality is like 8:30-9p and she is normally awake by 7a, sometimes she will sleep longer but it veries. I wish I could get her to sleep in on weekend even till 8 would be great, but then again 7a is sleeping in a little for me. so thats around 10 hours....shoot I wish I could get that much just once
Farelle replied: I read somewhere once where a parent used a timed night light to get their little girl to stay in bed. I think it was a cat or something. Anyway it said she set it for the time she wanted the girl to stay in bed and told her not to get up until the kitty "woke" up too. She said it worked.....?? Have you tried gating the room? We had to do that for a while. I told my son that it was to keep the kitties out of his room while he slept...but really it was to keep him in. He never really challenged it and as soon as I would put it up he would stay in bed. And if he did get up before me, he would just sit on the floor next to the door and quietly wait until I went and got him. Might work!
moped replied: Oh he NEVER gets out of bed just wakes up and starts talking way too early!
Nathansmom replied: Nathan goes to bed at 7:30 and plays around until 9 or so....some nights earlier, some later but he's always in bed at 7:30. He wakes up around 6 - 6:30, but we don't get him out of his room until 7, he plays kicks the walls, sings, whatever he wants.
Boo&BugsMom replied: LOL! Sorry Jen, I had to laugh. That's cute actually the way I am trying to picture it, but I agree if it were my own kid I'd be annoyed too. Tanner gets up to get a drink twice usually, then he plays with the cat when she comes to lay by him, talks to himself and sings as well. Arg!!!
We lay Tanner down about 8ish, but he usually is not asleep until about 9 finally. He gets up about 7. So, 10 hours of sleep total he gets at night usually.
HuskerMom replied: I put Keith to bed pretty late, usually about 10:30. In fact I just layed him down a few minutes ago. Then he'll sleep til around 9. Which is nice cuz I don't have to get up early so the extra sleep is great. Then he takes his nap around noon for a couple hours and he'll take another nap around 7 for an hour or so. He's down to a pretty good schedule that works well with ours.
MyBrownEyedBoy replied: For about the past month or so, Logan has been announcing, "I bed." when he's ready to sleep. Usually that's around 8:30, sometimes closer to 9. But he'll just hop off my lap if we're reading stories and grab his bunny and blankie and walk to his room. He's still in a crib, I'll probably move him after he turns 3. He will usually sleep until between 7 and 8. Which for me, 7am is sleeping in, I get up at 5 when I'm working. So he probably gets between 10 and 11 hours of sleep a night and will nap for between 1-3 hours during afternoons.
My3LilMonkeys replied: Keep in mind that DH works late (doesn't get home until 1:30 am) and he is the one home with the girls during the day - that's why the late bedtimes.
Madison goes to bed at 9pm, and usually gets up around 9:30 or 10 - so 12 1/2 to 13 hours of sleep. No naps.
Brooke goes to bed around 11 (she's a night owl and would stay up later if I would let her) and gets up around 10 - 11 hours of sleep for her. No naps either.
MommyToAshley replied: Ashley usually gets about 11 hours. She's a night owl by nature. She gets into bed about 8:30 but she usually talks to her self and reads books. If she's tired, she will fall asleep right away. If not, she will talk to herself and read for about an hour. I usually have to wake her up to get read for school around 8:30.
On weekends we are more flexible. Last weekend I went out with some friends, and she was still up with Daddy when I got home at 1:00 am. SHe ended up sleeping in until about 10:30.
