How much do you pay for day care?

Schnoogly wrote: How often, what kind, etc.? I'm just curious about what to expect since I am probably going to have to put Iain into daycare 1-2 days a week next fall. I got another job teaching that has a lot of office hours and I'm never going to get any grading done around him. So I just want to know what I'm in for!!

Thanks!!

Hillbilly Housewife replied: Well I pay 310$ every 2 weeks. That's for full time care, Mon - Fri, 8:30 to 5:30. (31$ per day)

The rate per day will only be few dollars higher when Zach only goes 1 or 2 days a week. (35$ per day)

That's for private, in home daycare, with only 2 other children.

MomofTay&Sam replied: I have taken a year off, but my school has a day care program and it is $890.00 per month. Thats all day(school hours). huh.gif

jcc64 replied: I pay $10 per hour for my nanny to come here. I live 90 miles north of New York, and I'm sure you're aware that daycare costs vary widely depending on where you are. Are there other moms in your area you could ask?
Peace,
Jeanne

MomofTay&Sam replied: I did not even think about the location changing the price. LOL I am in NY and I am sure it is cheaper away from the city.

kit_kats_mom replied: I pay a lady $40 a week to come to my house for 10 hours each week. She is really cheap though, I think that she would be home with her 5 yo anyway and I am really flexible about when she comes so it works out well for both of us.
We don't have any part time day care centers in our town for babies under 1yr so I can take her to a daycare and pay $400/mo for the full time and just take her part time. That's probably what I will end up doing when she turns 1. Most part time in home care I've found here runs around $35 a day. We are in N. Florida

supermom replied: Yeppers, the going rate around here for a licensed/registered day care (NOT preschool) is around $65 per week, full time, most charge whether you show or not, because you are paying for the position, not just the care.

However, I do know that in the big city, it's much more expensive. But most people around here don't make much more than minimum wage, either.

Schnoogly replied: I had no idea the costs varied so much! It would be great to have someone come here, plus if she could come while I'm home on some other days I might actually get some writing done! I will check around.

Thanks!
Steph

kit_kats_mom replied: I found my lady by putting a flier at the University in the Education dept. Just a tip if there is a school with a teaching or early childhood development program in your area.

mommytohaley replied: Holy Cow, where do all of you live?! I pay $222 a week for Haley to go daycare fulltime and that is actually a fairly reasonable rate. Some centers are $250 - $275 a week. If I had a nanny she would be about $350-$500 a week. In-home daycare is a bit cheaper, but still around $175 a week. I live in Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN.

Mom2_my3boys replied: I quit working when I found out I was pregnant again. When I was working my 2 children ages 4 and under 1 year, went to a private daycare out of a home. I was paying $150.00 a week for full time. That is 7:30am to 5:00 pm. This included breakfast lunch 2 snacks and learning time for the older children. By the way I'm in Ohio. HTH! rolling_smile.gif

Schnoogly replied:
There is, just down the street! Great idea, thanks!
