How much do you spend on birthday gifts - for your kids?
Celestrina wrote: Ben has fallen in love with Ben 10 (not sure if he likes the show itself or because the main character's name is Ben) and wants the last of the action figures to complete a collection. I feel like I'm turning into my hubby - spending too much on gifts. The main difference is that dh buys expensive gifts that he won't play with, while all he plays with generally sells for under $10. They run around $5 - $7. We have so far been able to get four and have a bid on ebay.
moped replied: Birthday gifts for my kids? I don't know......maybe like $75 but if it something I think she should have, like the plastic picnic table, it would be about $100 We don't go wild on gifts.....
coasterqueen replied: It just really depends on if there is something we are really wanting to get them. For Megan's birthday, just a few weeks ago, we spent less than $50 and actually one of the gifts we got her someone else got, so when I take it back it will be less. Both of our girls birthday are 3 months from a big holiday so it doesn't make sense to get too much for them on their birthday.
Our Lil' Family replied: We've never gone over about $80. Tim went to Toys R Us tonight to get Thomas' birthday presents and spent $75 on 3 things. I originally wanted to get him a trampoline but Tim didn't like that idea...that would have been about $200, but we didn't go that route.
Teesa®© replied: Before all the B.S. started 4 years ago, we used to spend about $200 per child for bdays and the holidays. We like to get them each at least one big really kewl thing.
Last year, we spent about $20 for each at the stupid dollar store because that was all we could afford. For the holidays, everyone tried to spend a little more on them because they all know we can't.
Things are starting to pick up a little bit this year, so we should be able to buy them more things. DS needs pants so badly. He had 2 pairs that he didn't manage to outgrow and I could only find 3 at GoodWill that fit him. His bday is July, and I'm trying to save up some more to get him tons of pants.
DD isn't so bad, she's got tons of clothes because most of the parents at school have daughters. If she does need anything, she borrows mine. Too bad DS is only 3ft and daddy is 6ft
punkeemunkee'smom replied: We always spend pretty big on her birthday and Christmas. I would say in the neighborhood of $300-$500 depending on what big items she wants and other cool stuff I find. I usually buy all through out the year so I end up with way more than I remember buying Of course that explains the reasons why I was just able to give away 17 bags of toys out of her room and you really can't tell much. 2 of my friends who got a ton of toys passed over in the past few weeks said they are going to start shopping here instead of Toys R Us from now on
Celestrina replied: You sound as bad as DH. We finally passed on a few of Ben's older toys that were still in decent shape. Just when I could finally see the floor in the basement, Christmas hit.
stella6979 replied: We just went birthday shopping for Avery and spent about $30-40. I'm sure that amount will grow as she gets older though.
Calimama replied: Last year we spent somewhere around $100. This year will probably be more since she's older and tells us what she toys she wants..
all the time.
My3LilMonkeys replied: $50 or so. DH is always pushing to spend more but the toy boxes are always overflowing so I figure they don't really need it. I usually try to buy mainly clothes and books as well since I know everyone else goes toy crazy.
danahas4monkeys replied: we usually go big for birthdays well sometimes thats usually when they get the big thing they have been wanting. we don't normally do parties just usually cake with family .
mommy~to~a~bunch replied: Usually between $20-30, sometimes even less than that. I try to make things instead of buying stuff.
mckayleesmom replied: I feel horrible for saying this.....but I think Russell gets jipped for his birthday......Not really jipped, but he just wants things that cost less money...so I take advantage of it. This year I got him a Soccer ball and a couple shirts and he thinks that soccer ball is made of gold... I think dh got him a transformer too...
Mckaylees birthday I usually spend around 200....BUT...Her birthday is in April and I usually include all her summer clothes in the gifts.
