How old was your child - when they knew colors

moped wrote: Jack seems to be interested, but I think it is memorization for him........I put on a shirt and said it was brown, then a few minutes later he said brown shirt, then I asked what color that car was and he will say brown..........if I say it was blue, everything is blue.

When did your child know colors?

CantWait replied: Anthony is 3, and knows a few. He goes through his stages still also.

moped replied:
Oh good.............I am glad to hear that. I am just not sure on where the development should be at 2

3_call_me_mama replied: Cameron knew them all at 23 months. 9well any that he had been exposed to) But the 8 basic definately by 20-23 months. Kathleen knows, yellow, purple, red adn green, THe rest she jsut calls whatever she feels like. She;s 22 months. I think that it is liek most things all kids learn, all in their own time and pace.

Brias3 replied: Ryan knew colors way early- he was about 20 months when he could pick out a couple. Aliyah was interested in that sort of thing very early but didn't get the hang of color identification until later than Ryan. Mason will be 3 in October and is off and on with his colors. I know he for sure knows some of them but most of the time will still respond "red" to everything when asked what color something is. I'm trying to reinforce it all through some fun books and just daily, "So what color is ____?" I don't want to always be quizzing my kids, we just make it a part of our daily conversations.

AlexsPajamaMama replied: Alex has known his colors for quiet a while, he turned 2 in the begining of April and can name colors correctly when asked what they are

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: Wil does the same thing Jack is doing...Everything is BLUE right now!

A&A'smommy replied: well I tried to find it on here but I believe alyssa was around 18 or 19 months when she KNEW her colors but younger than that when she started learning them, and she knew shapes when she was around 15 months (just circle)

BAC'sMom replied: Probably between 2-3 years old.

Boo&BugsMom replied:
Tanner was 20 months or something, a bit before he was 2. His pediatrician said that a lot of boys do not know color names until they are around 3. Don't know why. That's just what he told me. If your child doesn't know them by around the 3 1/2 mark, then I would be a bit more concerned. However, even if a child is color blind, it's so common that it is one of the disorders that you should be least worried about. My hubby is partly colorblind, and his brother is color blind. It's common, but it's necessary to know about.

Boo&BugsMom replied: Oh, I just want to add that Tanner is a very visual learner. Most visual learners know their colors, alphabet, etc. early on because it's...well..."visual". He could be a physical or auditory learner, which is not bad at all. It's just the way he may learn. He will catch on. Try some hands on color activities with him.

MommyToAshley replied: Ashley could point to the color if you said it before she was a year old. She could say all the basic colors about 15 months or so. But, I personally think that most boys focus on the gross motor skills and learn those before the girls... at least from what I have observed by watching Ashley with her friends.

Nina J replied: Emily knows hers, except for the hard colors like beige laugh.gif

Hillbilly Housewife replied: Zach knew all of his by 2, as well as shapes and most body parts.
Emilie knew all of hers by about 18 months
Naomie is about 9 months and can point to the face parts if asked, as well as blue, red, circle, and star.

PrairieMom replied:
I think thats about what the Boy did too.

mummy2girls replied: jenna was 2...

Zachsmom2002 replied: Zachary knows his colors when I point to them. He is going to be 4 next Tuesday bawling.gif and he can't recite them but he can tell me what they are. He also has trouble with blue and green. His Pediatrician thinks it could be a touch of color blindness. I think so too but then there are times when he tells me something is green and something is blue when I point to them. Who knows unsure.gif. But he has been getting better at knowing his colors since he was 2.
