I know that's hard to do, believe me I've been there numerous times. Just try to keep yourself busy. I know what helped me was to go to the appointment with the loved one so I got an understanding too.

Guest_jem0622 replied: Just wanted to offer prayers and comfort. I'll try to stay updated with your posts. He really needs you to be strong and absorb and remember things for him b/c cancer patients can be very stubborn. Especially men. They are in absolute denial and don't do what the doctor orders. Lots of hugs.

Kaitlin'smom replied: Oh Dee Dee I am sorry, hopefully they caught it early enough. We to have a family memeber with breast cancer, unfortinally her has spread in to her limph nodes and some into her lungs, we have not hear much more other than she has to have radiation

jcc64 replied: I'm very sorry to hear you and your family have to deal with this. I think I can offer you some comfort through my dad's experience. He had prostate cancer several years ago. There are several ways to treat it, depending on the severity, but I believe your dad has some input into how aggressively he wants to treat it. Some people go for radiation (seed thereapy, I think it's called), some people have the entire prostate removed- the most radical treatment and the one my dad pursued, and some men adopt the wait and see approach. My dad's prostate cancer is considered completely cured. The thing about prostate cancer is if it's caught early enough- the chances for a complete recovery are EXCELLENT. From what you've already said, it sounds like it was detected during routine bloodwork, and I suspect the disease was probably in its infancy. Keep in mind that many, many men have prostate cancer and never even know it, eventually dying from old age and not the disease. That's why there have been debates about prostate testing being TOO aggressive. I'm telling you all this so you will understand that although any diagnosis with the word CANCER in it is terrifying, it absolutely does not mean that your dad won't be fine in the end. PM me if you want, Dee Dee. In the meantime, try to stay calm and know we're right here for you.
BTW- I also want you to know that my dad's current health problems are completely unrelated to the prostate cancer he had several years ago.

MommyToAshley replied: Thanks everyone for your P&PTs. I do feel a little better today, and I keep praying that they caught it in time. I did a little research and found that prostate cancer is one of the slowest growing cancers, and if it has not spread then there is a good chance of full recovery. The danger is if it has spread. My Dad went to his doctor today, and he is scheduled to do some additional testing (bone marrow, cat scan, and a few other tests) on Aug 23rd. Argghh.. more waiting. I will be a nervous wreck until we get the results, but I have tried not to show how upset and scared I am.
A&A'smommy replied: OH hun! LOTS of P&PT'S his way (and yours too) and some calming vibes your way! That is the same thing my FIL has and they have TONS of wonderful treatments for it. My FIL got the radiation pellets and the side effects that they told him was just not being able to hold his grandchildren for four months (that sucks) and he has had lots of tiredness and a soreness but he is still able to work and do a good bit of stuff (as long as he doesn't overdo it). ((((BIG HUGS))) Let us know how the testing goes...(btw I hope I didn't say anything to upset you I just wanted to let you know Dh knows how you feels!)
