Tanner reply was Crystal. His horse that died. It break my heart to her him say that. I talked to him and asked him about it further and he said he just felt like he lost something that so close to heart that he had a hole in his heart. I told him I was still very sorry. I mean this child had this horse from before the time he can remember back too.
I talked to Dh and we agreed he needed his own special horse. A dear friend of mine gave me a horse for Tanner but it wasn't exactly what he wanted and it was a bit wilder than we thought.
Today we found the PERFECT horse for him. She is a 15 year old mare who is 17 hands tall. For those who know horses thats huge especially for a 10 year old to ride!! But she is so sweet and gentle. She is broke. We went to look at her and the guys 11 year old grand-daughter hopped on her bare back and took off in a trot, the horse was perfectly mannered and very well kept. Tanner got on her and he took off on her and felt her out and the next thing I knew they were running through the yard and pasture. He got off and he said I think I love her. So, we bought her! She won't be able to come home until the 15th but I am so glad he found something he could trust and love again! She is an awesome mare and Dh was even impressed!
He has been hugging me all day telling me how happy he is and how much he missed just being able to have "own' horse he could ride anytime and that this is his dream.
All that love for a mere $350.00! He had been wanting a PSP3 and I said which do you want more Tanner? He said Mom their is no comparison something that you can love and ride or a dumb game that will break in a few years.
Smart country boy!!!!!

That totally made me cry btw. I remember the feeling of standing in the barn talking to your "best friend". Brushing them down, the smell of horse. I miss it so much.
I had a filly that I loved so much. I felt like I had this special bond b/c I was the first person to ever set eyes upon her. I was the first human she ever saw. She was a ugly, spindly filly. But so magical. She loved to play, and was so naughty. But so gentle at the same time. When she got to be about 18 months, I'd give little kids rides on her back. I'd lead them around bare back. I miss that filly. I broke her bare back in an indoor arena w/about 10-15 other horses being riden at the same time.
I had brought her to a 4-H meeting intending on working her "in hand" and my advisor said, "Why don't you just ride her? You have 2 months before fair". Problem was, I didn't bring a saddle, and there were so many extra people at the meeting, that they didn't have any extra that day. So bareback it was!
Boys r us replied: Aww..I don't think that you could have spent $350 on anything else that would have made him that happy!!! Sweet!!!
My2Beauties replied: Mel that just warmed my heart. I can't wait to see pics, you are such a wonderful mommy and Tanner is such a good kid! $350 well spent!
